Video case study Postmortem


Postmortem can be defined as an evaluation or discussion occurring after the end or fact of
something (Dictionary.com). In this section, the explanation for the video case study will be
discussed in three aspects as below:

a. Plot (Storyline)
Plot also called as a storyline: the plan, scheme, or main story of a literary or
dramatic work, as a play, novel, or short story. The video case had been selected as
a group project presentation because it related to the topic given. After watching this
short video, it seem it has all packages that related to the Individual differences,
values dan diversities, and Emotions, attitudes and job satisfaction chapter as per
Organizational Behavior, Twelve Edition textbook that used in class.

Summary of the video selected:
There was a very poor little boy stole medicine for his sick mother. He was caught by
the lady shop owner which very angry of what that little boy. Then, appear an old

man that selling food nearby to help that poor little boy buying the medicine and
release that boy from apprehended by the lady shop owner. Before that little boy
leave, he had a deep look toward that old man who had helped him.
After 30 years, the old man that helped the poor little boy critically sick and they did
not have money to pay his operation procedure. Without that old and his daughter
acknowledgement, an unknown person (a doctor) covered all the operation expenses
on behalf of them. It appears that doctor is the poor little boy which helped by that old
man 30 years ago.
b. Chapter relatedness

Breakdown of the chapter and the relation with the video provided as follow:

1. Chapter 2, Individual differences.


Individual differences attempts to identify where behavioral tendencies are similar
and where they are different. Capitalizing on differences requires an understanding of
what they

are and valuing the benefits they can offer (Organizational Behavior, Twelve Edition,
International Student Version,2012).
Situational factor
This factor can give a major impact towards ones behaviour according to certain
situation that ones face with. For example in the video, that poor little boy seem do
not have money on him, but because of his desperate situation of his sick mother, he
stole the medicine.
Social factor
This factor include family life, religion and many kind of informal and formal group
that people encounter throughout their live which at the end can influence ones
behaviour. It seem that according to the video, that old man was very generous and
kind heart that lead him to helped that poor little boy.
2. Chapter 2, Values.
It can be defined as broad preferences concerning appropriate courses of action or
outcomes. Value that related to the video case study is congruence, the value that
occurs when someone express positive feeling when encountering others. For
example, that old man help that poor little boy bought the medicine which giving a
positive impact toward that boys in his future.

3. Chapter 2, Diversity.
According to Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English, diversity was defined as
a range of different people, things or ideas. While for workforce diversity, it mean a
mix of people within a workforce who are considered to be, in some way, different
from those in prevailing constituency (Organizational Behavior, Twelve Edition,
International Student Version,2012).
Age Diversity
Age or more appropriately generational (Millennial, baby boomers etc.) differences
that affecting workplace in term of thinking, behaviour and reaction toward each

other. In the video case study, it related to that little boy which not only young but also
poor and cannot generate his own income in order to help her mother financially.
Economic Diversity
It is the process in which a growing range of economic outputs is produced. It can
also refer to the diversification of markets for exports or the diversification of income
sources away from domestic economic activities for example income from overseas
investment (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change portal). By
referring to the video case study, the old man income far greater than that little boy
even though the old man just an average food seller. He still manages to help the
little boy to buy the medicine needed.
4. Chapter 3, Emotions.
The definition for emotions is any strong positive of negative feelings directed toward
someone or something (Organizational Behavior, Twelve Edition, International
Student Version,2012). There are two aspect of emotions discovered from the video
case which is Major Emotion: Fear and Sad, and Emotion Intelligence: Social
awareness. The boy in the video desperately steals the medicine because of he
afraid of losing his mother and also sad of her circumstances at that time. This
situation refer to the topic of major emotion of fear and sad. While for social
awareness example is where the old man being responsible of what that little boy
doing by help him buying the medicines.
5. Chapter 3, Attitude.
It means the predisposition to respond in a positive or negative way to someone or
something

International Student Version,2012). From the video case, the positive respond chain
happened between that little boy and old man. That old man, the one that giving a
helping hand to the little boy inspire him to be success in future which particularly be
a doctor. This situation called as behavioural component while for the old man that
knowing and understand that boy situation, it called as cognitive component.

6. Chapter 3, Job satisfaction.


Job satisfaction is the extent to which people like (satisfaction) or dislike
(dissatisfaction) their jobs (oshwiki.eu). As for the video presented, the poor little boy
that became a doctor after inspire so much of what the old man did, this called as
satisfaction causes performance. When he satisfy with the favour by other, that

moment motivate him to change his life in future. While for the doctor, all bills
covered by the doctor due to his action thirty years ago called as performance cause
satisfaction. This happens when that old man performed a positive yet encourages
action lead to the success of the little boy in future had given him satisfaction that
come by after quite a long time.

c. Suggestion
There are a few suggestions that related to the video case study as below:

As a human being we need to always help the needed especially in that case.
Always be generous to other people because it could lead us to a good deed later.
Believe in karma, when we help other, one day other people will help us as well.
Respect people in any situation whether they are poor, handicap and other.
Avoid being disrespectful toward other people base on their social status and

6. A simple help could be a precious motivation to people that really need it.
