Qualifications required for post: Native or near-native speaker in Spanish, Good Honours
Degree in Spanish, or a closely-related discipline
Experience required for post: Experience of teaching Spanish at higher education
contexts, or equivalent
Overall purpose of post: To undertake academic and academic related responsibilities
Main duties:
1. To teach students using appropriate instruction methods such as lectures, tutorials,
seminars and other formal pedagogic work.
2. To contribute to courses across a range of programmes.
3. To supervise students projects and dissertations.
4. To mark and assess students work, and to invigilate.
5. To undertake relevant personal and collaborative research, and to undertake other forms of
scholarly activity as agreed with and supported by the Departments and Facultys research
management teams
6. To contribute to income-generating activities as directed by senior colleagues
7. To contribute to curriculum development work including identification of student
requirements, planning, development and evaluation of courses and course materials.
8. To care for the pastoral needs of students by giving them academic counselling and
guidance and, where appropriate, guidance on where they may find any further help
needed.
9. To contribute collaboratively to education processes including the administration of
education and training programmes.
10. Supported by senior colleagues, to participate in the administrative processes of the
institution including committee membership, quality assurance procedures, recruitment and
admission of students.
11. To participate in staff development and appraisal processes and in-service training.

12. To undertake such other duties as may reasonably be required by the University having
regard to the general principles used in the above descriptions.
