AWARDS GUIDE

WELCOME TO THE MULTICULTURAL &

INDIGENOUS MEDIA AWARDS
Dear Friends
Indigenous & Multicultural community media outlets
and their journalists have never been properly
recognised.
Since the first multicultural newspaper in Australia,
Die Deutsche Post, was published in Adelaide in
1848 there has never been a stand-alone award
recognising multicultural community media. Through the Multicultural
and Indigenous Media Awards (MIMA) we are ensuring that ethnic and
Indigenous Journalist and media outlets get the recognition they
deserve.
I encourage all multicultural & Indigenous media outlets to join in this
event both to further multiculturalism, but also to recognise the
contribution of our community journalists.
This guide outlines the award categories as well as key dates for
participants.
If you require any further information, please contact my office
on (02) 9230 2526 or email me at

Yours sincerely,

The Hon Shaoquett Moselmane MLC

Opposition Whip in the Legislative Council
Parliament of New South Wales

ABOUT THE AWARDS

About the Multicultural & Indigenous Media Awards:

Multicultural & Indigenous media has contributed to the Australian way of life since
1848, and to date other than the Multicultural & Indigenous Media Awards there has
been no stand-alone recognition for the journalists, owners, and administrators of
such media outlets.
History has shown the important role they have played Australia-wide. It is time to
recognise the work of multicultural and Indigenous media in our community.
The program will, therefore, showcase the talents of multicultural and
Indigenous media with the aim of encouraging innovative journalism, nationally.
