COURSE OVERVIEW
This is a core paper offered in first trimester of MBA program. The course provides a
comprehensive foundation for understanding the scope of information systems in a
business environment. It covers the fundamental concepts of understanding hardware and
software which includes network infrastructure, cloud computing and Big Data. The course
includes aspects related to Information Technology and Systems, Information system
design and development and security related aspects. It also elaborates the design of a
MIS solution for various business functions like production, marketing, finance, and human
resources.

Interactive mode of learning/discussions during the class will be observed. Peer learning would
be achieved by this mode.
Individual analysis of cases, followed by group learning during the class hours using case study
method would be enabled. Students are expected to read the case study and preferably come
prepared to the class with a write up.

3. While the presentation slides would be prepared by all students of a group together on the topic
identified for that group, the delivery of presentation would need to be done individually.
4. Each group would be allocated a time of 12 minutes for the presentation
5. Presentation slides would need to be prepared in accordance with the guidelines provided for
visual presentations in the academic standards hand-out (Page numbers 53 and 54)
6. Evaluation of presentations would be in accordance with the rubrics indicated for visual
