Chapter 1

THE KEY TO GLOBAL PEACE AND

BETTER INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
We here at GHG GLOBAL POWERHOUSE continue to support protection of the environment
and a better world for all. We have a vision of a beautiful world where humans and animals coexist
joyfully and peacefully together. Sadly, at present, the world is in crisis. In 2013, we had to deal with
the threats of war and a missile strike on Syria, due to the chemical weapons attack that so far has
killed so many women and children in Syria. We truly hope that this conflict will be resolved soon,
because War is senseless and only leads to more pain and bloodshed. A deal was finally made where
Syria had agreed to hand over its chemical arsenal in mid-2013 and we hope they will keep the peace.
Early in 2013, we had to read about suicide bomb attacks at a church in Pakistan that killed close to
78 people. So far, this was the deadliest-ever attack against the countrys Christian minority. And
again in 2013, to sadly hear about suspected Al-Qaeda militants (Al Shabaab), responsible for
throwing grenades and firing upon innocent civilians in an upscale Nairobi Shopping Mall in Kenya.
More than 175 people were injured in the attack and the death toll was up to 68. And again, I am sad
to relate that we also lost one of our own in this deadly assault that took place in Kenya. A
Trinidadian scholar was among those who lost their lives in this terrorist attack in Kenya.
If you are truly at peace with yourself, youll never be at war with others (Napoleon Hill). The Key
to Global Peace and Better International Relations is LOVE. And that is love for humanity and
love for all of GODs creations. When you truly love people, you would treat them how you would
like to be treated yourself and that is with respect, love and kindness always. You would find it in
your heart too; to have compassion, empathy and sympathy for those who are needy or suffering.
Remember that every man wants to be loved and appreciated and made to feel important in the
world. Also fall in love with the qualities of honesty, integrity, justice, humility, goodwill and success
and think about and try to achieve them daily. Try to replace thoughts of hatred, anger, hostility and
let your aim be peace, health, forgiveness, inspiration, harmony and abundance. Also pray for the
peace, happiness and prosperity for all people everywhere. Be emotionally mature and permit other
people to differ from you. They have a perfect right to disagree with you, and you have the same
freedom to disagree with them. Wish for the other what you wish for yourself. All you owe any
person in the world is LOVE and love is wishing for everyone what you wish for yourself-ALL
THE BLESSINGS OF LIFE.
Education is also vital in building peaceful societies. The quest for peace begins in the home, in the
school and in the workplace too. Let us pledge to teach our children the value of tolerance and

mutual respect. Let us try to build a fair and inclusive world that embraces diversity. Let us also
educate and empower others on the importance of maintaining a culture of peace by choosing
positive ways to resolve instances of injustice and violence. Let us strive to be exemplars and
educators for a more peaceful society and world at large. BE AN INSTRUMENT OF PEACE.
REMEMBER TO SAVE THE PLANET!
Peace
Evil triumphs when good men do nothing (Edmund Burke). Are you not tired of all the tragedies,
violence and wars in the world? Stringent action must be taken to achieve global peace. We must
look closely at our own role in the perpetuation of global unrest. As leaders, it is imperative that we
focus on what should be our driving purpose-to create a world which is better than the one we have
inherited. If we fail to try and continue submitting to avarice (greed for wealth), global peace will
surely remain an illusory aspiration. What kind of world should we aspire to build? A world where
everyone accepts each others differences and where enemies recognize that they are brothers. We
are all children of one heavenly father, we belong to the same human family and we share a common
destiny. It is everyones responsibility for each to work so that the world becomes a community of
brothers who respect each other, accept each other in ones diversity, and takes care of one another.
Let us try to ensure a better world for everyone. Let us arrive at the best solutions and find common
purpose for the greater good of all. Now is the time for us to discover how we can be more loving,
kind and respectful towards each other. And also how to foster harmony and promote the universal
prerequisites of love and the light of truth and understanding among all people.
There is too much violence in the world. There is too much violence and injustices present in many
parts of the world, and which cannot leave us indifferent and immobile. What is happening to the
heart of man and to the heart of humanity? We must stop ourselves in this path of violence and
search for peace. There is the need for the commitment of all to build a society that is truly more
just and united. We must recommit ourselves to the morals and values intrinsic to progress and
building a strong nation. The collapse of traditional morals and values must not be encouraged and
we must quickly recognize the serious consequences of this devastating shift. It is a danger to our
development and our very survival. Let us all try to have strength, courage and hope and think of
the downtrodden. Let the courage of dialogue and reconciliation prevail over the temptation for
vendetta, arrogance, corruption and hatred. Let us get rid of the negative attributes of deception,
dishonesty, greed, corruption, arrogance and poor work ethics. There must come a day when we
reiterate our belief in non-violence and call for a global ceasefire. Let us keep our minds focused on
good thoughts, actions and deeds, so that we are not overwhelmed by evil temptations and conduct.
Let us be enlightened, so as to conquer evil and bring us closer to a supreme spiritual being and
make us better people. Be thankful for our multi-cultural and multi-religious societies that bring us
together as one people, under the sun. There is strength and unity in diversity! One must take a
moral stand, embrace diversity and promote equality in politics and the world at large. Always treat
people how you would like to be treated yourself-with respect, love and kindness. Accept that some
people will be different to you, look different to you, have different opinions to you but you must

never hate them for their differences. Do not hate them because they are of a different religion,
colour, race or status. This is wrong! It is so much better to show love to them and embrace them.
When we embrace diversity, we help foster better international relations and a world filled with
more love, joy, peace and harmony. Remember to let every creed and race find an equal place, the
world becomes more interesting and more beautiful too. We must all pray daily for guidance during
our demanding journeys through life and foster discernment of right from wrong. In the absence of
light, darkness reigns supreme. Darkness brings with it chaos, and in this chaos, we are prone to lose
our way as a people and stumble as a nation. We have the power to bring illuminating light to all
darkness in our society. Refill your hearts with love, compassion, perseverance, hope and brotherly
love. These ideals will help improve our lives, homes, neighbourhoods and countries. Let us all look
forward with a renewed sense of purpose and commitment to our future aspirations. Let us,
together, through collaboration and consensus, decide how we can build a better and more
prosperous society and world. Let us turn inward and light the lamps of knowledge and truths in our
hearts and allow our innate brilliance and goodness to shine forth. May our love for each other grow
every day.
Let us respect the dignity of all human beings, whatever our nationality, place of residence, sex,
national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, language, or any other status. We are all equally entitled to
our Human Rights without discrimination. These rights are all interrelated, interdependent and
indivisible and are also the foundation of freedom, justice and cultural harmony for all. We must
mobilize against major threats to Human Rights such as discrimination, gender inequality, climate
change, poverty and gender based violence, armed conflict and violence, impunity (freedom from
punishment), democracy deficits and weak institutions. Challenges to Human Rights often lead to
violations and devastation of human life in some form. It must also be remembered that Human
Rights violations affect many more people than simply their direct victims. Family members,
communities and societies themselves are all adversely affected and thus impact on the overall
wellbeing and development of people. Human Rights stand alongside development, peace and
security, as a binding pillar and we must be aware that persons who do not know their rights are
vulnerable and sometimes easy prey for ill-intended individuals. When Human Rights are not well
known by people, abuses such as discrimination, intolerance, injustice and oppression arise. By
promoting and encouraging respect for Human Rights and fundamental freedoms for all, without
distinction as to race, sex, language or religion should be the fundamental goals for all Governments.
National Child Protection Policies and National Youth Policies, that promote development,
education, socio-economic empowerment, gender equality and equity are good initiatives that should
be established. Governments must try to ensure that the rights of its citizens are not infringed upon.
Governments must find a way in creating a cultural, social and economic environment of equity and
equality for all. Strategies to promote Human Rights must encompass a multi-sectoral approach
involving civil society, the private sector and the general public. Although there have been many
battles won, goals met concerning Human Rights, and strategies implemented, the war against
injustice continues and the fight has not ended. It is necessary to stay alert and to avoid a potentially
paralyzing self-complacency. Let us all stand, be counted and champion the rights for all people, for
a better world.

It is also necessary in highlighting education for peace. Education is vital in fostering global
citizenship and building peaceful societies. Let us pledge to teach our children the value of tolerance
and mutual respect. Let us invest in the schools and teachers that will build a fair and inclusive world
that embraces diversity. The quest for peace begins in the home, in the school and in the workplace.
Let us reflect on and encourage peace within our homes, schools, communities and our nation. Ask
yourselves, have you started your quest for peace? Are you promoting values that allow for peaceful
societal transformation? Let peace be allowed to manifest in our society and let us all educate and
empower others on the importance of maintaining a culture of peace by choosing positive ways to
resolve instances of injustice and violence. Education for peace is relevant to our society where we
continue to be plagued with a number of social ills that affect entire communities. Education has to
cultivate mutual respect for others and the world in which we live, and help people forge more just,
inclusive and peaceful societies. Education for peace originates in the family, where parents as the
primary socializing agents, serve as peace teachers to mould constructive and peaceable beings. This
education then continues in other social groups and institutions and can be either reinforced or
abated.
We must therefore ignite our youth to create a country where peace, mutual respect and tolerance
are embedded nationally. This programme provides a foundation for creating future peace builders
and peace makers that improve the way conflict is handled in our schools and by extension, the
society as well. Community Mediation bodies can also contribute to transforming the mind set of
individuals and communities, advocating more positive and mutually beneficial responses to conflict
management through awareness and education. Additionally, workshops should continually be
established throughout communities addressing several issues including communication, managing
anger and relationships, leadership, mediation and conflict resolution. Parents, teachers and leaders
in various spheres of life, must be encouraged to promote harmony for our young ones to model.
Remember a peaceful person is someone who is committed to working actively to promote peace
through mutual respect, effective communication, appreciates diversity and maintains healthy
conflict resolution practices in their interactions. Let us all strive to be exemplars and educators for a
more peaceful society and a peaceful world. Let us positively transform ourselves and the world at
large. Be an instrument of peace!
Give Love and Support to those in Need
The world is starved for love. We need more love in the world. People today have become very
selfish and thinking only of themselves. Remember that everyone wants to feel loved and
appreciated. You can also make friendships grow by being a true friend. This is what makes life
beautiful and memorable! Also our time is limited here on the earth. Let us use this precious
resource of time wisely. Let us spend each day making it joyful for ourselves and for others as well.
Each day let us do something kind for another person, each day let us lend a helping hand to
another person, each day let us give a smile to cheer up another person, each day let us tell our
family members and friends how much we love and appreciate them. The goodness you wish for
yourself, you should wish for others. When you say a prayer, say it for yourself and for others too.

All people everywhere should be encouraged to live in love and unity. Love your neighbour and be
there to help them in their time of need. Respect everyone regardless of race, age, sex, social status
or religion. Always treat others how you would like to be treated yourself. Offer pleasant and
positive words to people that you meet everywhere. Always say thank you to someone who has
done something nice for you. Always be grateful to those people who assist you in your work,
whether they are clerical staff, receptionists, canteen staff, cleaners, customer service people or any
of your work colleagues. Cultivate a spirit of giving and sharing and always emulate that which is
good. This way we will be contributing to a more joyful, peaceful and loving world for everyone.
For me, it is wonderful to be part of a beautiful multi-cultural society like this here in Trinidad and
Tobago, where we share so many things. Many Trinidadians even believe that GOD must be a
Trinidadian and that he must love us a lot to bless us and give us this gift of people of so many
different religions, races and colours in our tiny twin island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. We
have been truly blessed here and I must tell you that you must never practice racism (you don't
know the fun you are missing from other people). Respect everyone and treat everyone as you
would like to be treated yourself. Show love, compassion and kindness to everyone you meet. The
world appears more beautiful and interesting when people learn to appreciate and love everyonedespite their colour, race, religion or social status. It is a whole lot of joy and fun!
Do you know of any family that just lost their home? Do you know of a poor family struggling to
make it through life? Do you know any special shelters for women or children in your area that
needs funds or necessary supplies? You can make a big difference in these people's lives. Ever
thought about supporting a special charity in your area or donating clothes you don't need any
more? You could even contribute by donating foodstuff and medication to a family in need. What
joy you would bring to these people's lives!
Please remember to help the blind. If you see a blind person having difficulty to cross the street,
please assist them. For 'BLIND WELFARE ASSOCIATIONS' in your community, you can lend a
helping hand by giving a small donation of cash for maintenance of their establishment. You can
also help them out by donating 'braille' material or special walking sticks, to make it easier for them
to move around. Unfortunately, some of them have been born blind, whilst others may have lost
their sight later on in life by different circumstances. Have compassion and empathy for them and
treat them with respect. Remember the blind have feelings too and they are people too.
Please remember the disabled in society. Please remember to treat them with respect and to treat
them as you would like to be treated. Lend a helping hand to them and treat them with kindness. If
you see a disabled person that needs help to cross the street, please help them. If you are inside a
store or building and you see a disabled person who needs help, please open the door for them and
assist them. If a disabled person is having trouble getting up onto the bus, please assist them. When
Architects design or construct buildings, they should remember the disabled and include special
disability ramps to enable the disabled to move around easily. Also in the car parks and parking lots
of large shopping malls, remember not to park in spots/areas particularly designated for disabled

people. In the workplace, provide special desks, seating and ramps for them to feel comfortable.
Remember the disabled, they are people too.
Please remember the Elderly. Always treat them with respect, compassion and kindness. Empathize
with them and have patience with them, as regards their medical conditions/degenerative disorders
like Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, hearing loss, failing sight that happens as a result of
their aging. Do you have a lot of elderly people in your community? Why not volunteer two or three
days each month to help an elderly person in your community-by taking out the trash for them,
going to the supermarket for them, helping them with their personal hygiene needs or help them
with their gardening. You can even treat them to free foodstuff, free clothes and free medication
from time to time. I am sure they would greatly appreciate your help.
Drivers, when you are on the road, remember to be courteous to other drivers that are on the road
as well. Presently there is too much road carnage. Remember to check and service your vehicles
regularly to help prevent accidents on the road. Be responsible drivers and do not drink alcohol and
drive on the road. If you have to drink, get a designated driver who can get you home safely. Obey
the road rules (especially the speed limits). Always be polite to other drivers on the road when you
can and lend a helping hand to a driver in need of help. To be stuck in traffic can be very frustrating
for many people, but try to have patience still. If another driver does something to upset you, do not
start a fight, curse or swear but if it is possible, try to be understanding or just try to forget about the
situation on the whole. Be considerate to pedestrians on the road, and when it is safe to, please stop
so that pedestrians can cross the road safely (especially children).
For the youths, there is no need to steal from others or to harm others to get what you want. There
is already too much crime across societies. There is too much violence and too many deaths as a
result of greed and selfishness. There is nothing wrong in desiring wealth and abundance for
yourself, but do not try to harm others to get it. There is a better way! Pray daily for the wonderful
things that you desire for yourself. Deposit thoughts of prosperity, wealth and success in your mind
often and have faith that you will get the beautiful things that you desire. You will soon experience
the joy of the answered prayer. As you go through life, it is important to remember, to always treat
people how you would like to be treated yourself. It is important to note, that by Universal Law,
what goes around comes back around. When you hurt or harm people in order to get what you
want, if you steal from others to get what you want, it is certain that this hurt or harm will come
back to you eventually and you will also attract all manner of loss to yourself. Do not envy others for
what they have, because if you practice right thinking, you can also have the things that they have.
Envy and jealousy are stumbling blocks to the flow of wealth. Do not think about making money
dishonestly either, but try to earn money in good or honourable ways. This is better! Always use
your talents and resources to contribute to the joy, welfare and success of others too. By practicing
honesty, integrity and perseverance, you would become a credit to yourself and to society at large.
For those who are ill, we must not forget them. If you have a family member, friend or neighbour
who is sick, make time to care for them and visit them if they are at hospital. If possible, give them a

nice get well card too. You will be amazed how a visit or kind words can help cheer up a sick
person and make them feel better! If you have a sick family member at home, before leaving home
for work, offer them kind and uplifting words. Pray with them daily, for their quick recovery. For
your loved ones, always imagine them getting better and in perfect health. For those who are very
old and ill, and perhaps not ambulant and confined to a bed, family members should arrange to get a
competent nurse to help provide good healthcare and support for their sick family member at home.
And even for people who are terminally ill, still offer words of comfort to these people and give
them hope. In this world, remember that miracles still do happen!
Animals are not to be forgotten either. It is a wonderful thing to have a world where animals and
humans coexist peacefully. Always treat animals with love, kindness and compassion. Remember
that they are living things and do have feelings too. Do not beat, harm or kill animals for sport or
fun and always try to protect or preserve all endangered animals. Encourage your family members
and friends to protect all endangered animals, so that future generations can enjoy them too. If it is
possible for you to do so, you should also help Animal Shelters in your community by donating
food, toys or cash for the animals there. Always treat your pets well, and take time to play with them
and show them love. Make sure that they are well fed and given the correct amounts of food and
water for their size and weight. Make sure to feed your pets every day and give them water to drink
every day. When they are sick, care for them and take them to a veterinarian, so that they can get
better soon. When the weather is very bad (when it is very cold, when there is heavy rain, flooding,
lightning and thunder outside etc), please secure your pets and if possible, bring them inside the
house where they will feel warm and safe. Dogs especially, are afraid of thunder and hearing
thunderous sounds, create much anxiety and fear for them also. If you are unable to care for your
pet, do not desert them or drop them off in a deserted place. You can carry your pet to a local
Animal Shelter or Animal Sanctuary, where they will be cared for. Or give your pet to a good friend
who will love them and take good care for them. Always show your pets love and appreciation.
Making the World a Better Place and Caring for All
I rally all people everywhere, to generate a spirit of volunteerism. Let us forge a spirit of goodwill,
break down barriers that often lead to evil doing and let us release a spirit of volunteerism. By
helping one person and another, people can contribute to a feeling of hope and encouragement for
better living. If we can, let us help charitable associations and those in need, through physical labour,
repair and refurbishment works, moral support and interaction and words of love. Let us all strive to
make our countries a better place socially. I invite the corporate sector to join in and help build
better communities via CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). I invite all companies in every
country to undertake projects, for the upliftment and progress of your respective country. Let us
give and help one another to encourage positive change in behaviour and for positive change in our
future. The types of projects can include environmental awareness programmes for the public, free
developmental programmes for the youth, beach clean ups, planting of trees, infrastructural building
of libraries, building of health parks for members of the public, renovation of existing public

buildings, donations of equipment, medication and beds to hospitals, donations to local charities and
spending some time with the less fortunate.
There are many benefits of volunteering. By volunteering, one can directly assist communities. You
can help people in the community to improve their own lives and build a sustainable future. You
therefore help make life more bearable for people and bring joy to their lives by simple acts of
kindness. You become part of a service-based grassroots movement and a growing community of
active global citizens. By volunteering, you build friendships and join fellow volunteers in lending a
hand. By volunteering, you can create fantastic memories and serve as a facilitator, liaison and
advocate of developing world connections and building something valuable together. Volunteering
is a great way to develop world connections and create a powerful legacy which helps contribute to
the collective work of world peace and harmony. Volunteering also inspires empathy and
compassion, which often leads others to become volunteers themselves. By volunteering, there is
the satisfaction of knowing that your financial and physical resources have helped someone in need
to achieve the means for a better and brighter future. Be a volunteer today!
Presently, more work is needed to hit anti-poverty targets and focused global development efforts
can make a difference. Now is the time to step up our efforts to build a more just, secure and
sustainable future for all. Specific targets should be set on poverty alleviation, education, gender
equality, child and maternal health, environmental stability, HIV/AIDS and malaria reduction, and a
global partnership for development. The Millennium Development goals should involve the
combined actions of governments, civil society and the private sector in making substantial progress
in meeting many of the targets mentioned before. There are areas that are falling behind and other
areas that require immediate attention. A definite target should be in providing more than two
billion people with access to improved sources of drinking water. Countries have also made great
strides on health targets. These include reducing the mortality rates from malaria and tuberculosis
and stopping HIV infections.
However, countries are falling short on other targets including those regarding maternal health,
providing universal access to education, expanding access to sanitation, and achieving gender
equality. In particular, the goal pertaining to environmental sustainability is under severe threat, as
growth of global emissions of carbon dioxide continues to accelerate with emissions today being
more than 46 per cent higher than in the 1990s. Forests continue to be lost at an alarming rate.
Overexploitation of marine fish stocks is resulting in diminished yields. Birds, mammals and other
species are heading for extinction at an ever faster rate and declines in both populations and
distribution. A green economy is one that results in improved human well-being and social equity,
while significantly reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities. Growth in a green
economy is driven by investments that reduce pressures on the environment and the services it
provides us, while enhancing energy and resource efficiency. The green economy is a means to
sustainable development, a strategy to get prosperity for people and the planet, today and tomorrow.
There can be no sustainable development without social equity; no growth without proper
management of our natural resources that our economies depend on. We need sustainable
development to achieve prosperity for many instead of misery for all. Millions are still hungry every

day. If we carry on using resources at the current rate, by 2050, we will need the equivalent of more
than two planets to sustain us, and the aspirations of many for a better quality of life will not be
reached. The poorest in our societies will suffer the most, if we use our resources unsustainably as
their lives and livelihoods depend very directly on water, land, seas, forests and soil. There are new
and emerging challenges that pose a serious threat to sustainable development-from climate change
and increasing water scarcity to low resilience, to natural disasters and biodiversity and ecosystem
loss. Many countries can leapfrog to efficient technologies and systems that will permit them to
exploit their resources, from forests and biodiversity to land and minerals, in ways that are
sustainable and capable of supporting increases in consumption.
Countries that learn to use their natural capital in a smart and sustainable way will be the winners of
tomorrow. The transformation to a greener economy could generate 15 to 60 million additional jobs
globally over the next two decades and lift tens of millions of workers out of poverty, according to a
report by the International Labour Organization (ILO). We have to set goals and targets for key
natural resources which underpin a green economy: water, the oceans, land and ecosystems, forests,
sustainable energy, and resource efficiency including proper disposal of waste as well. These goals
are essential for sustainable growth and inextricably linked to the issues of food security, poverty
reduction and social development. These goals would drive the private sector to invest, spur
technological innovation and create employment. All private companies should include sustainability
in their annual reporting. So what kind of future do we want? It is our own future we put at stake if
we fail to tackle the problems of finite resources, unsustainable development and mass poverty. Let
us not waste our chance to choose and create the kind of future we want, while we still can. Let us
all work together to create a better world for all. We can do it!
The present global economic crisis has left millions unemployed, and has reduced the amount of
development aid for those countries that are most in need. Redoubled efforts are urgently needed,
particularly in regions most behind to jumpstart advancement and achieve maximum gains. The
world community should take pride in its accomplishments thus far, while building on existing
momentum to reach as many goals as possible in 2015 and to realize gains for all via great
humanitarian work.
Humanitarian work can be quite rewarding. Humanitarians draw the world closer together by
reminding us that we are one family, sharing the same dreams for a peaceful planet, where all people
can live in safety, and with dignity. We should also examine our own lives and consider what more
we can do to help-to reach out to people enduring conflict, disaster and hardship. Let those
humanitarians (whom we honour), inspire us to start our own journey to make the world a better
place and bring our human family more closely together.
What We Can Do To Develop a More Peaceful and Caring World
1) Governments worldwide should enlist the help of policymakers, to provide the wider society with a
blueprint for developing a more peaceful and caring society.

2) Governments worldwide should develop a holistic plan for the promotion of sustainable peaceful
interventions in their respective countries.
3) Governments/Leaders worldwide should examine peace initiatives and projects to identify resource
needs.
4) Governments/Leaders worldwide should gather information from relevant organizations and/or
individuals on their peace-making initiatives, and projects resolving conflict in communities.
5) Governments/Leaders should work together with other Governments/Leaders in other countries,
to help maintain peace and harmony.
6) Governments/Leaders worldwide must develop initiatives regularly, to deal with high conflict
communities, abuse, crime and violence in their respective countries.
7) Governments/Leaders worldwide can involve Religious Bodies (religious groups) in mediation
initiatives, for a more peaceful society.
8) Governments in all countries should include compulsory subjects on peace in schools.
9) Members of society should be encouraged to engage in peaceful resolution of conflicts, through
mediation and other alternative dispute resolution tools.
10) Members of society should be encouraged to engage in creating and sustaining attitudinal changes in
behaviour for the promotion of peace.
11) Organizations/Individuals can help people in their community to develop tools, skills and principles
to achieve and maintain peace.
12) Organizations should offer more free lectures or courses in mediation, conflict/dispute resolution
skills to the general public.
