Before we start let us first have a mind exercise.
In this activity I will group you class into four.
Group A, group B, Group C, and group D. I will
provide each Group an envelope. The envelope
compose ofpicture puzzle. You are going to solve
the puzzled and paste it into the bond paper one
picture each bond paper and put it into
the board.

tools used in sewing. We will have several
objectives that we must attain by the end of our
discussion, kindly read:

you, sewing requires special tools, too. The right
tools make sewing fast, easy and fun, am right?

The best way to start in sewing is to know and


familiarize first the basic tools. Sewing tools are
classified into different functions:
Yes Maam!
We have the Measuring, Drafting, Cutting,
Marking, Sewing and Pinning Tools. It represents
the different processes done when sewing.
MEASURING TOOLS
Tape Measure- used to measure body parts.
Ruler- used as a guide in drawing lines and
marking fabrics.
Seam Gauge- used for measuring and marking
short distances such as hems, tucks, and seams.
DRAFTING TOOLS
L-Square- used to draw perpendicular lines, and
construct square corners.
Hip Curve- used to shape the hip part of the
dress or pants and draw other long, curved lines.
French Curve- used to shape necklines collars,
and armholes.
CUTTING TOOLS
Shears These are for cutting fabric, paper and
other materials.
Scissors-used for cutting threads and cloth.
Seam Ripper- used for taking out seams and
remove stitches.

MARKING TOOLS
Marking Pens -- come in several colors and
should be washable. On some, the marking will
disappear after a short period of time, others will .
stay until removed by washing or spritzing with
water.
Tailors Chalk- colored wax used to mark
measurements on fabric.
Tracing Paper- used to transfer construction
marks.
Tracing Wheel- a tool with grated wheel pressed
lightly against the tracing paper for easy transfer
of pattern marks.
SEWING AND PINNING TOOLS
Pins- used to hold pieces of cloth together or to
keep folded parts of garments in place.
Needles-carry the thread through the fabric.
Threads- a very thin fine cord inserted inthe eye
of the needle to make a stitch.
Thimble- is used to protect the middle finger
from being pricked by the needle.
Threader - This is a diamond shaped wire
attached to a handle and used to insert thread
through the needle eye.
Pin Cushion- used for holding & keeping pins
and needles
2.ANALYSIS
Ok! So lets review. I will show you a tool and you
are to give me the name of the tool and tell me as
to what tools it belongs to.. ok?

4.APPLICATION (Tools of the Trade Bingo Game)


Now to see if you have really learned and
understood our discussion, let us play another
game. This one is called Tools of the Trade Bingo
Game. Are you familiar with the game BINGO?
Ok, so its like BINGO, without the numbers. Its
pretty simple.
Instructions:

I will give each player a bingo card and


colored chalks to mark the squares.

I will call out the names of the tools and you


will cover the corresponding pictures on
your cards with the chalk.

The first person to complete a line

winner.

The winner must also tell the uses of the


tools in the line.

G. Generalization
Success in sewing calls for the right tools at the
right time. All tools must be appropriate in a
proper
order and one must know how to use them to
save time
and produce the best result.
IV. Evaluation
Classify each sewing tool according to its function/ use. Write the name of the tool on
the column where it belong.
