CourseDescription
This Postgraduate Diploma programme caters for the inservice teachers, student teachers, therapists, social
workers and healthrelated professionals, providing them with practical experience, systematic training and
environmenttotheinterestedandqualifiedstudentstofulfillonequarteroftherequirementstobecomearegistered
musictherapistwiththeAustralianMusicTherapyAssociation.

Oncompletionoftheprogramme,studentsshouldbe
ableto:
1. acquireinitialskillsintheuseofmusicasamediumtostimulatepositivehealthandeducationalchangesin
childclients
2. beabletofulfilthetaskofamusictherapistintrainingusingbasicmethodsand
3. learn basic design and appraisal of therapeutic programme or approach within the appropriate ethical
standardsofpracticeforworkingwithchildclients.

of the University of Melbourne, Australia will be granted exemption of four modules (25% of the programme) if
acceptedintotheMasters(bycoursework)programme.

Award
A 'Postgraduate Diploma in Music Therapy' will be awarded by HKU SPACE to students who meet ALL of the
following
havepassedtheassessmentsofallthemodulesand
haveattendedatleast80%ofthelecturesand100%oftheplacement.

Assessment
Acombinationofindividualorgroupassignmentsrangingfrom1,500to3,000words,audiorecordedrepertoireand
presentations.

Applicantsshall:

holdaBachelorofMusic,or
holdaBachelorofMusicEducation,or
holdaBachelordegreeinanalliedhealthoreducationprofession(e.g.teaching,occupationaltherapy,nursing,
etc.)awardedbyarecognizeduniversity.
