CEILING PANEL

GLASLINER FRP WALL LINER &

What is FRP?
FRP, fiberglass reinforced plastic, is a composite made from fiberglass reinforcement in a
polymer plastic matrix.
What is FRP panel made of?
FRP is a laminate, consisting of chopped glass fibers and polyester resin. The surface is resin rich
resulting in a scratch resistant finish.
Where can FRP be used?
FRP panel is used wherever a bright, durable, sanitary, and highly cleanable wall/ceiling is
required.
Where is FRP most commonly used?
FRP has been used in numerous applications including food processing plants, animal barns, car
washes, cold storage warehouses, convenience stores, commercial kitchens, lunchrooms, public
shower rooms & washrooms, schools & hospitals, restaurants and supermarkets.
Has FRP been tested?
Glasliner FRP has been tested and passed according to ASTM E-84 and to Can/ULC-S102 by
independent laboratories.
Is FRP easy to maintain?
The surface is designed to shed dirt & grime. Normal cleaning with non-abrasives is all that is
necessary.
How will FRP react to various chemicals?
FRP will not stain or corrode. It is impervious to most mild acids and alkalis.
How will FRP react to temperature variations?
FRP will withstand temperature extremes of 20F to +110F. It will however, expand or contract
with temperature variations. Allow a 1/8 gap at ceiling and base and a 1/16 gap between panel
and division bar. Allow more space for panels longer than 8.
Can FRP panels be installed immediately upon delivery?
FRP panels should be unwrapped, stacked and stored indoor in a dry area. The panels have to be
allowed to stand at ambient temperature at least 24 hours prior to installation. If at all possible,
raise the room temperature above anticipated operating levels. The panels will contract as the
temperature goes down.
Can FRP be installed over most substrates?
Yes. FRP can be installed almost on all porous substrates using solvent free FRP adhesive. For
non-porous surfaces such as ceramic tiles, the use of solvent base adhesive with rivets may be
required. The tile surface may also need to be sanded for better adhesion.
Does the substrate need any special preparation?
Make sure substrate surfaces are non-painted, clean and dry. Wall surfaces such as concrete or
plaster wall should be smooth & flush. Since Glasliner will follow the contours of the substrate,
major imperfections in the substrate may telegraph through the product. Adding furring may be
necessary.
How is FRP Installed?
We recommend that you follow our installation guide. Traditionally, mechanical fastening of
using nylon drive rivets is accepted. However for best result, we recommend to use only high
quality FRP adhesive with use of fasteners only if absolutely necessary.
Does FRP lie flat against the wall?

FRP panels are flexible enough to lay flat. However all FRP panels will expand & contract
according to temperature change. If installation is not done according to the recommendations,
sometimes this expansion may result in bulges.
How do you finish the joints and corners?
We have special moldings to be used to finish the joints & corners. Standard silicone caulking is
most commonly used for a moisture tight seal.
Can FRP be cut on the job site?
FRP can be cut using a power saw with a fine tooth, carbide tip blades or masonry blades.
Can FRP be installed over existing metal panels?
Yes. Some skilful & experienced installers can install Glasliner onto existing metal panels
especially in walk-in coolers with solvent base adhesive by a cohesive method. Sometimes
metal fasteners have to be used together to do a perfect job. Pre-drill holes (use 3/8" drill bit) in
Exceliner on 16" centers. Using pre-drilled holes on FRP as a pilot hole, drill metal with a bit no
larger than 9/32". Seal all joints with a silicone sealant.
Can FRP be painted?
Painting FRP is not recommended because the finish is designed to be a non-adherable surface. If
painting is necessary, a high quality epoxy or acrylic-based paint is suggested and is the
responsibility of the end user.
Can FRP be used as a bathtub or shower surround?
Yes. FRP panels are non porous to moisture when installed vertically to the wall, so Glasliner can
be used as a tub surround. There will be seams as the panel is mostly supplied in 48" widths.
Install the seam to the far end away from the faucet or shower head. Caulk all the joints with
silicone caulking and leave expansion room at the joints.
Does FRP mold?
No. FRP does not support the growth of mold or mildew.
Is smooth FRP easier to clean than embossed?
No. Embossed panels have been tested to be as cleanable as smooth panels. Embossed texture
resists scratch marks better than smooth finish panel, and maintain an acceptable appearance
longer than smooth panels.
What is the weight of FRP panel?
FRP Panels in 0.090 thickness weigh about 12 ounces per square foot. A skid of 100 4x8
panels weighs approximately 2000 lbs each.
Can I get FRP in other colors?
Yes. Besides bright white color, Glasteel also has stock of almond, beige, ivory, light grey, black &
silver.
