duty alternator is fast becoming the standard
spec on so many original equipment engines.
It features a brushless design, high efficiency
output and remote battery sense for the ultimate in battery management.

Brushless Design for Long Life

Since brushes are the most vulnerable point of
wear on the typical alternator, youd think that
all alternators would be brushless. But the electronics of brushless alternators are more complicated, making them more expensive to
manufacture. Thats why most alternators still
use brushes.
The Delco Remy 36SI alternator, on the other
hand, is a pure brushless design. With fewer
moving parts, fewer wear parts, it lasts longer.
That means we are able to give it unbeatable
warranty coverage. For OE and new service applications, the 36SI HP series part numbers referenced in this brochure are covered by a 3
year/350,000 mile warranty. Reman units are
covered by a 2 year/250,000 mile warranty.
High Efficiency By Design
Because of the extremely efficient design of
the 36SI, less engine horsepower is needed to

run the unit. So more horsepower is available

to run the truck. That translates directly into
fuel savings.

for a 60 Amp load. As the load increases, the
savings get even better. For an 80 Amp load,
the savings reach and impressive $125 for
every 100,000 miles driven. Multiply that

Remote Sense for Intelligent
Battery Management
Due to resistance in battery cables, environmental factors and other conditions, the voltage from the alternator drops by the time it
reaches the battery. Just because the alternator

is sending 14 volts doesnt mean that the batteries are receiving 14 volts. Thats why weve
included Remote Sense on most models.
With Remote Sense, a second wire reads the
actual voltage at the battery thats coming
from the alternator. It signals the alternator to
boost its output to compensate for voltage drop
ensuring 14 volts at the battery. Research has
shown that an increase of just 1/2 volt, when
needed, can cut the battery charge time in half.
At the end of the day, it can make the difference between batteries that are fully charged
and those that arent.

quad mount and a pad mount. The images

Winning The Fuel Economy Game

There are a number of different ways to compare alternators. But the most important one
might just be operating efficiency. Thats because it takes horsepower to turn an alternator,
horsepower thats generated by fuel. When it
takes less horsepower to turn the alternator,
more horsepower is left to turn the drive train
... and that translates directly into better fuel
mileage. So how much fuel can an efficient alternator save?
We were afraid youd never ask.

Adding Up The Savings

To calculate how much you can save with the
new Delco Remy 36SI, its necessary to make a
couple of assumptions. The following scenario
is realistic for many fleets.
Based on a fuel cost of $3.00/gallon, 40% engine efficiency, 14V, 75C inlet air temperature
and 38 MPH overall average speed, the cost of
driving 100,000 miles in a truck running with a
60 amp load and a Delco Remy 36SI alternator
would be $80 less than the same truck using a
Denso 130A alternator. If the load were increased to 80 amps, the difference would be
even more dramatic: $125 for every 100,000
miles driven.
