On Sunday, Aug. 2, the Historical Society will sponsor its annual Chicken Barbecue at the Tabernacle Methodist Church. This
event is scheduled from 2 to 6 p.m.
in the air-conditioned church hall
located at 166 Carranza Road in
Tabernacle.
Those who attend are treated to
large portions at this dinner.
Adults receive a half of a chicken, along with homemade sides
such as coleslaw and potato salad.
Fresh, locally picked corn and
sliced tomatoes are also included
with each platter. For dessert,
there is a variety of homemade
pies, cakes and puddings. The
adult portion is priced at $10.
Smaller portions are available for
children under 12 years, these are
priced at only $5.
Tickets are available in advance or at the door. The feast
can be enjoyed at the event, where
diners can socialize with many of
their friends and neighbors. If it
is more convenient, platters can
be boxed up for takeout at no ad-
ditional charge.
For tickets please call (609) 2681255 or (609) 859-3469, or contact
any member of the Historical Society.
The Tabernacle Historical Society was founded in 1975 and has
devoted itself to the preservation
of Tabernacles history. It is responsible for the Knight-Pepper
House and the Friendship Schoolhouse, both restored by the society and both located on Carranza
Road. In addition, it has erected
signs throughout the township
marking historic sites. The society has conserved and documented
many historic artifacts including
photos, documents, maps and
everyday utensils from bygone
years. Its most precious possession is a large, lidded basket made
by the last Delaware Indian to live
in our area Indian Ann.
There is much work to be done,
and fewer and fewer volunteers to
do it. To join the Historical Society or to make a donation, please
call (609) 268-1255.
