1. What is the difference between assessment and evaluation?

Assessment focuses on learning, teaching and outcomes. It provides
information for improving learning and teaching. Assessment is an
interactive process between students and faculty that informs faculty how
well their students are learning what they are teaching. The information is
used by faculty to make changes in the learning environment, and is shared
with students to assist them in improving their learning and study habits.
This information is learner-centered, course based, frequently anonymous,
and not graded.
Evaluation focuses on grades and may reflect classroom components
other than course content and mastery level. These could include discussion,
cooperation, attendance, and verbal ability.
The table below summarizes key differences between assessment and
evaluation
Dimension of
Assessment
Difference
Content: timing, primary Formative: ongoing, to
purpose
improve learning
Orientation: focus of
measurement
Findings: uses thereof

Process-oriented: how
learning is going
Diagnostic: identify
areas
for improvement

Evaluation
Summative: final, to
gauge
quality
Product-oriented: whats
been learned
Judgmental: arrive at an
overall grade/score

2. What is the general objective of assessment?

OBJECTIVES OF ASSESSMENT:

Assessment is a process of determining the extent to which the learners

acquired knowledge and it gives us an idea as to what student should do.
Assessment focuses on the present teacher observation about the learners.
On the other hand, evaluation has something to do with the general result of
learning based on the value judgment that compares the actual
understanding of the learners to the expected learning outcomes.
There are three main purposes of assessment:
a. Instructional Planning
b. Public Accountability
c. Students Placement
3. Give at least 2 importance of assessment for:
a. Instructional Planning
b. Public Accountability
c. Students Placement
INSTRUCTIONAL PLANNING
Teachers should conduct assessment in order to:
Examine and clarify the understanding ability of the learners toward
the specific topic.
Justify the phase of the development and be able to motivate the
learners to study diligently
PUBLIC ACCOUNTABILITY
Assessment is very important in order to:

Report the growth and development of the learners to the community.

Clearly discuss the growth and development, the problems of the
learners as well as the parents.

STUDENTS CORRECT PLACEMENT:

To adopt correct grouping and pairing of students according to their

learning ability.
Putting the exceptional children in a special group like fast and slow
learners or in special class as the case maybe.

4. What are the Principles of Assessment?

Assessment is considered an integral part of curriculum and

instruction.
Assessment should measure clearly defined learning competencies
that are in harmony with the learning objectives.
Performance-based Assessment as authentic assessment method.
Assessment should measure a representative sample of the learning
tasks included in the instruction.
Collect variety of learning indicators.
Give enough time and adequate learning activities to give them
chance to effectively understand the lesson.
