LESSON AIMS: 1) to arouse interest
2) to learn about Indirect Speech
3) to introduce the Indirect Speech statements:
changes of tenses, pronouns and adverbs
4) to consolidate the Indirect Speech using
different types of exercises
Activity 1

Teacher checks the homework Ex1,2/54

Activity 2 Aims: to introduce the students into the atmosphere


of the lesson
Procedure: Students are asked to prepare their english books and
notebooks.
Teacher writes at the blackboard the title of the
lesson: Indirect Speech. Students note on their
notebook

Activity 3
Aim:- to introduce the Reported Speech statements (when the
introductory verb is in a present tense)
Procedure: Teacher writes on the blackboard the first case:
when Indirect Speech is introduced by a verb in a
present tense and explains that tenses do not change
from direct to indirect speech when the reporting
verb is in the present, future or present perfect.

Sts note on their notebook.

Activity 4
Aim:-to introduce the reported speech statements:the changes of
tenses, pronouns and adverbs.
- to learn about indirect speech
Procedure: 1) Teacher explains the students that indirect speech
is usually introduced by a verb in the past tense
and that verbs in the direct speech have then to be
changed into a corresponding past tense and writes
on the blackboard the changes of tenses.Sts note on
their notebook.
Teacher writes on the blackboard five sentences and
asks the students to turn the sentences into indirect
speech.

Timing: 10
Anticipated problems: Students may have difficulties in
reporting the sentences. The teacher will
gently correct the mistakes and explain
again the points where they didnt seem
to have understood well.
2) Teacher writes on the blackboard the
expressions of time and place in indirect speech
and explains the students that pronouns and
possessive adjectives normally change from first
or second person to third person, except when
the speaker is reporting his own words.

Activity 4
Aims:- to encourage communication
-to solve the exercises specific to the activity
Procedure:Teacher asks the students to solve a gap fill
exercise. Sts solve the exercise and teacher checks
their solutions.

Anticipated problems: Students may have problems in solving
the exercise. The teacher will correct the
mistakes and explain again the points
where they didnt seem to have
understood well
