This tutorial explains how the latest full installer for ADE is used to install ADE or update an existing
version. The installer is sophisticated and is working on a complex piece of software. Whilst we do
take every effort to ensure a smooth and trouble free installation things can go wrong. There is an
option to back up an existing installation so please do not skip that step.
There are sections of the installer that are not described in this tutorial, These steps are self
explanatory and we have focused on the important variations in installation that can arise depending
on you current installation.

License Agreement
ADE comes with the usual license agreement. This explains the conditions under which you can use
the software. Please read it carefully.
1. You can print the license for your records if you wish. A copy is installed in the manuals
folder.
2. If you accept the agreement then click 'I accept the agreement'
3. If you do not accept this agreement then you muxt click Cancel and not continue with the
installation
4. The next button will be inactive until you accept the agreement - then you may click it to
proceed to the next step.

Additional Tools
ADE comes with some extra tools created by Martin Gossmann. We recommend that you install
them along with ADE.
1. The AI Aircraft Editor allows you to edit the configuration of AI Aircraft.
2. The ADE Environment Checker will check your computer to see if everything is in place to
run ADE properly.
3. Please be aware that these tools install extra controls into the Windows\System32 folder if
they are not already there. These controls are used by many programs and may well be
present. In case other programs are using them they will not be removed if you decide to
uninstall ADE at a later date
4. Choose which additional tools to install and then click the Next button.

Update Available
ADE has an on-line updater. This will check to see if there are any updates available. In most cases
there will be an update. We only create full installers once in a while when there is a major upgrade
or major new features. So chances are you will see the updater offering an update when you first run
ADE after the installation. The updater will tell you in two places
1. In the status bar and
2. As a notify icon in the task bar. This will show a tooltip for a short while alerting you to the
update. This will then fade.
You do not have to apply the update. However we strongly advise that you do so. Updates will
almost always contain fixes to bugs. In some cases these bugs may stop ADE working properly and
are called Critical bugs.

Update Details
Click on either the task bar notify icon or the button in the status bar and the installer will display the
update details.
1. The first line of the details will always tell you if the update is Critical or not. Even if it is not
we do advise that you accept the update. If you choose not to then the Updater will tell you
there is an update each time you start the program. Just ignore it if you do not want to make
an update at the time.
2. Click the Update button to apply the update. You will see some dialogs as the update process
goes on. When it is complete ADE will be restarted in the new version
Please note that updates are cumulative so if you do not update on a particular version then the next
update when it is made available will include any previous updates.
Final Caution
We are aware that if you have unsaved work on a project and decide to apply an update then you
will currently lose the unsaved work. We are working on a fix to this. However currently the Updater
will close and restart ADE without offering you the chance to save your work. So until we find the fix
for this please save any work before applying the update.
