Job Title:

Human Resources Manager (80% FTE, exempt)

Montalvo is seeking an energetic and experienced Human Resources Manager to join out dynamic
staff. The Manager is a solo, HR generalist, responsible for the daily administration of the human
resources support functions for the organization which has 40 year-round full- and part-time staff,
and 15-20 additional on-call and seasonal staff, along with 15-25 interns annually. Reporting to the
Deputy Director, this position is a key member of our administrative staff, in both functional and
advisory roles.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Identifies legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human
resources functions and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.
Manages the recruiting, interviewing, testing, and selection of employees to fill vacant
positions. Recruits, interviews, orients and schedules interns for all programs.
Plans and conducts new employee and intern orientation to foster positive attitude toward
organization goals.
Administers benefits programs such as life, health, dental and disability insurances, pension
plans, vacation, sick leave, leave of absence, and employee assistance.
Keeps records of benefits plans participation such as insurance and pension plan, personnel
transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, and terminations, and
employee and volunteer statistics for government reporting.
Administer organizations semi-monthly payroll; prepare and transmit payroll through ADP.
Maintain personnel files and documentation.
Coordinates management training in interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions,
supervision, performance review, safety, and sexual harassment.
Advises management in appropriate resolution of employee relations issues.
Administers performance review program to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and equity
within organization.
Advises on salary administration program to ensure compliance and equity within
organization.
Plan, coordinate and host employee and volunteer recognition activities.
Promote volunteer and internship program in community by attending career and internship
fairs.
Assist with the coordination of staffing of major arts center events.
Complete special projects and miscellaneous assignments as required.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
2-4 years of relevant experience and proven ability with human resources administration and
Microsoft Office programs required (Excel, Word, Outlook). HRCI or SHRM certification
preferred.
BA/BS in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field preferred.
Experience with ADP Payroll System preferred but not required.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work in a collaborative team environment, and with all organizational constituents.
Demonstrated competencies in the areas of recruitment and selection, employee relations,
classification and compensation, benefits administration, and non-profit administration
practices, trends, and guidelines practices.

Flexible, patient, friendly personality; Professional and courteous attitude; Ability to handle
multiple tasks and projects, and rapidly changing priorities with grace; Keen attention to
detail.
Proven experience in dealing with confidential information required.
Background check and fingerprint clearance required to serve as CORI.
Ability to multi-task and work independently and make sound decisions, without close
supervision.
A passion for local history and the arts is essential.

Working Conditions & Physical Tasks:

Typical office environment; requires the ability to remain seated at a computer work station for extended
periods. Some job functions may be performed outdoors. Some local travel necessary; valid drivers license
and access to own vehicle required. Must occasionally lift/carry supplies weighing up to 30 lbs. May need to
stand or bend to perform program support tasks. Position may require some evening/weekend availability.
Background check clearance required.
