Description:

Pump P-4 supply chilled water to lauter tun oil heat exchanger as coolant, and to
the wort sampling station for cooling.
Operation:
This pump continually operates from the start to finish of the brewhouse
operation. It supplies cooling water to the lauter tun during the operation of the hydraulic
system which. The pump supplies cooling water to the oil cooler through the activation of
a solenoid valve which is interlock with the oil pump. The hydraulic system
approximately operates for about 20 minutes per brew. The cooling water then discharges
to drain.
The chilled water also supplies to the sampling station. Its usage is dependent
upon the operator requirements.
Pump P-4 operation is not optimize as it operates continuously despite only
intermittent usage.
Recommendation:
1. Recover water supply to lauter tun oil cooler back to chilled water tank.
2. Interlock the operation of the pump P-4 with the lauter tun oil circulating pump.
3. Provide manual operation of pump P-4 for the sampling station.
Savings:
a. Water Savings
Approximately 400 liters per brew of softened water is discharge to drain from the
oil cooler. This translates to an annual savings of Php 13,715 for 1,374 annual
brews.
b. Power Savings
Annual operation of the pump is approx. 4,114-hrs. Actual usage base on lauter
tun operation is only 457-hrs. Thus, power savings is 4,638-kwhr for a 2-hp
pump. Thats Php 23,190 annual savings.

Description:
The operation of the kieselghur discharge (KD) starts with the filling of the spent
filter aid from the Schenk Filter to the FA Buffer Tank. The KD pump operates to empty
the FA Buffer Tank going to the Filter Aid storage tank near WWTP. This usually takes
about 2-hours of operation to discharge the spent filter aid. Prior to the start of KD,
though, an Operator manually opens the water supply located near the Liquid Storage
Tank no. 1 (about a 1 to 2 minutes walk). The manual intervention of water supply could
lead to excess water usage.
Recommendation:
Install a pneumatic valve for the raw water supply to filter aid discharge line and
interlock with the KD pump. Untimely use of raw water is prevented.
Description:
The demi water supply to Wort Cooler no. 1 1st section is throttled to
approximately 50% opening. This is throttled to reduce the volume of demi water as this
water goes to the Boiler Area for boiler water make-up. Despite the throttling though,
excess boiler make-up still is recurring as minimal makeup water is only need by the
boiler, having a condensate recovery efficiency of about 90%.
The next section, 2nd section of Wort cooler uses cold water as cooling medium
from the brewhouse cold water tank.

Description:
The Warm Water Circulating Pump P173 discharge valve is throttled to about
40%. This reduces the capacity of the pump. Said valve was throttled to reduce the
hammering effect going to shell & tube heat exchanger ( has a recurring leaking due to
hammering).
Recommendation:
Replace the existing pump with low capacity from 17.3 kw to 7.5 hp pump. This
would reduce the flowrate from 100 to 40 m3/hr and eliminate throttling of the discharge
valve.
