Ultra Energy Efficient Air Conditioner

In an air-conditioning system, the most power consuming component is a compressor. The revolution
in compressor technology using DC Brushless Motor as a compressor (for compression of refrigerant)
has enabled most efficient air-conditioner to be available now for commercial operation.

Why DC Brushless Motor?

In a DC brushless motor used in this highly energy efficient air-conditioner/heat pump, the
rotor of the motor is constructed using permanent magnets with windings on the stator side.

There are actually no brushes and commutator compared to typical DC (direct current) motor
hence eliminating concerns such as sparks, brush life, brush residue, no exciting and copper
losses and electrical noise as compared to traditionally used AC compressor.

The windings of the motor are connected to the power electronics control that determine the
speed of the motor by the use of micro controller. In addition to this, various protection and
monitoring circuits have been incorporated into the electronic controls circuit to ensure
efficiency and reliability.

The main advantages of a DC brushless motor compressor is its quiet operation, compact,
longer life time, energy saving and better capacity control which translates to a more
comfortable environment.

Also in this unit an indoor and outdoor fan blower Ac motors have been replaced to compact
small dc motors, This addition has made the system ultra-energy-efficient, longer life
expectancy and perfectly silent in operation.

It is filled with HCFC-22 (also known as R-22) ozone-friendly Refrigerant.

Instead of three phase, it uses a single phase power supply.

Since it is 100 volt dc powered, for plugging in with normal domestic 220 volt ac source, it is
required a 220->100 volt, 3000 Watt CONVERTER, Which is easily available in the market at
about 2000 Rs.($ 20).

*****Now with all technological changes what we achieved*****

** Power consumption:
450 Watt (at full load) compared to 1200 Watt (1.2 kW for 1 ton of traditional AC in the market)

**Energy Saving:
There is a decrease of 750 Watt electrical power consumption (62.5 % less power consumption for
the same amount of cooling)

**Reduction in Electricity Bill:

1200 Rs./month as compare to 3200 Rs./month (if avg. unit price is 12 Rs./kW-hr.(as in
Pakistan))

at this point, it costs only 20,000 Rs.($20)

** What is a price of solar system?

Just 55000 Rs. ($520)

** What is the life of solar system?

25 years
** What is a payback or recovery time and what does it mean?

2 years, it means the investment on system is recovered within 2 years and after that we
can run this system for the next 23 years free of cost
** What happens after 25 years of solar operation, power house gets dead?

No, it will still be operational after 25 years but with reduced efficiency.
** Why solar cell efficiency is reduced after 25 years?

It is due to the thermal degradation of solar cells, there is further research and
technological development on the way to improve the silicon based material properties to
reduce the environmental attack on solar cells.
