Grammar: Adverbs of manner: quickly, badly, slowly, carefully, nicely,
awfully, safely, easily, heavily ,fast, hard, late, early, well.
Vocabulary: verbs and phrases connected to telephoning: Hold on, Wrong
number, The lines engaged, cardphone, coin phone booth, etc.

Activity 1: WARM-UP(5)
O1: - to revise vocabulary for communication
Skills: Speaking
Class organization: individual activity;
Materials: textbook
Procedure: Teacher asks the students how do radio, television and telephone
influence communication among people. Teacher tells students to open their
textbook and sets exercise 1 as a competition.
Activity 2: Lead-in( 10)
O2- to introduce language needed for using a telephone
Skills: Speaking, writing
Class organization: Whole class, Pairwork
Materials: textbook, toy phone, board

Procedure: Teacher asks students questions related to communication.Teacher


refers students to the picture on page 68 and helps them identify the type of
telephone and the way it can be operated: either by coins or by phone cards.
Teacher uses a toy phone to explain vocabulary. Teacher announces the title of the
new lesson and writes it on the board, then Teacher writes the new words.
T asks Ss which of the instructions in ex. 2a for phoning come first. Ss number the
rest of the sentences in the correct order in their notebooks and compare their
answers in pairs as they finish.T elicits the answer.
T asks one student to come out and, using the toy phone, to give a demo following
the instructions in the right order. Other Ss check their own answers.
Activity 3: Matching( 10)
O2- to introduce the language needed for using a telephone
O3- to provide practice of expressions for phoning

Procedure: T tells Ss ex.2b is a matching exercise and allows them to read the
words, clarifying any unknown words. T writes them on the board.
T directs Ss to the first half of a sentence and elicits the second half.

Procedure: T elicits how adverbs of manner are formed from adjectives. T writes
the general rule on the board.

Procedure: T refers to the rubric in ex. 3b/ page 69 and does the first example with
them to make sure they know how to accomplish their task.
T asks Ss to do the rest of the sentences by themselves.
