There was an awesome performance last

week at the year 7 rounders tournament.
We heartily trounced Orleans Park and
narrowly missed out on medals, losing to
Waldegrave in a close match.
Players of the tournament were Layla and
Claudia. Great things to come!

Our Digital World

30 year 8 students took part in a workshop funded by TCS (TATA
Consultancy Services) based on skills needed and careers within our
increasingly digitalised world. The presenter from My Kinda Crowd was
very impressed by the group and their ideas, and he sent the following
report:
This was a truly fun day for me at Christs School. I was extremely
impressed by the students from Year 8 that I had the pleasure to lead
in the workshop, and their contributions to discussion and focus
throughout the session was fantastic. The students worked very hard
from the moment we started and they seemed genuinely engaged with
the TCS workshop and what TCS had to offer. The work they produced
was of a really high standard and their ideas were so innovative.
The winning team were: Adscan. Team members: Adam RezzagSalem; Fahez Siddiqi; Louis Icke; Peter Innes; Kevin Losha; Edward
Broughton.

IBM Afternoon
Four students went to An Afternoon at IBM last week. This was an
opportunity to learn about employment and careers in a global
organisation, and the diverse range of products which involve IBM. The
keynote speaker was involved in the Watson Super Computer and
spoke about cognative computing, which is a growth sector. Following
that students worked on a mini design idea led by IBM employees who
work in research and development. The group met interns and
graduates working at IBM who encouraged the students to think about
the types of skills emloyers value. The sessions gave us all plently to
think about and it was an inspiring afternoon.

Bronze, Silver & Gold

D of E Expeditions
Over the next few weeks,
over 70 students, from years
10, 11 and 12, will be taking
part in Duke of Edinburgh
expeditions at bronze, silver
or gold level. Next week,
bronze and silver assessed
expeditions will take place
in the New Forest and on
12th July, 6 year 12 students
will depart for Christs first
ever gold expedition to the
Cambrian Mountains in
Wales.

Oxford University
Seventeen students spent the day at Oxford University on Friday 19th June.
The day was hosted by Oriel College, which is the college linked with Christs. On the day
students learned about applying to and getting places at Oxford. It is clearly hard work but worth
it, and the starting point is getting great GCSEs. They also learnt that most degrees can lead to
any career so the advice is to apply for something you are really keen to study. We did a tour of
the college and had lunch in the grand dining hall. Following that, we walked to the famous
Bodleian Library and did a mini research session at the Pitt Rivers Museum. It was a great day
with lots to learn.
