Quotes for Reflection:

Thou hast made us for thyself, O Lord,

and our hearts are restless
until they find their rest in thee.

TORAH
Deuteronomy 11:18-21, 26-28
You shall put these words of mine in your heart and soul, and you
shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and fix them as an emblem on
your forehead. Teach them to your children, talking about them
when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down
and when you rise. Write them on the doorposts of your house and
on your gates, so that your days and the days of your children may be
multiplied in the land that the Lord swore to your ancestors to give
them, as long as the heavens are above the earth.

YOUNG PEOPLES MESSAGE

MODERN HEART PRAYER
Dag Hammarskjld, 20th cent.
You who are over us,
You who are one of us,
You who are also within us,
May all see you - in me also.
May I prepare the way for You,
May I thank You for all that shall fall to my lot,
May I also not forget the needs of others.
Give me a pure heart - that I may see You.
A humble heart - that I may hear You,
A heart of love - that I may serve You,
A heart of faith - that I may abide in You.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

THE LORDS PRAYER

CALL TO WORSHIP
Jesus calls
Even today.
Jesus calls us to journey with open hearts on a narrow path.
Jesus calls
Even today.
Jesus calls us to share our strong hands with a gentle touch.
Jesus calls
Even today.
Jesus calls us to follow his footsteps
that lead both to a blood-stained cross
and a Spirit-filled life.
Jesus calls
Even today. Let us worship!
PRAISE

ANCIENT HEART PRAYER

St. Augustine, 4th cent.
Lord Jesus, our Savior, let us come to you.
Our hearts are cold; Lord, warm them with your selfless love.
Our hearts are sinful; cleanse them with your precious blood.
Our hearts are weak; strengthen them with our joyous Spirit.
Our hearts are empty; fill them with your divine presence.
Lord Jesus, our hearts are yours;
possess them always and only for yourself.

See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse: the

blessing, if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God that I
am commanding you today; and the curse, if you do not obey the
commandments of the Lord your God, but turn from the way that I
am commanding you today, to follow other gods that you have not
known.
GOSPEL
Matthew 7:13-23
Go in through the narrow gate; for the gate that leads to
destruction is wide and the road broad, and many travel it; but it is a
narrow gate and a hard road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
Beware of the false prophets! They come to you wearing sheeps
clothing, but underneath they are hungry wolves! You will
recognize them by their fruit. Can people pick grapes from thorn
bushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every healthy tree produces
good fruit, but a poor tree produces bad fruit. A healthy tree cannot
bear bad fruit, or a poor tree good fruit. Any tree that does not
produce good fruit is cut down and thrown in the fire! So you will
recognize them by their fruit.
Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord! will enter the Kingdom
of Heaven, only those who do what my Father in heaven wants. On
that Day, many will say to me, Lord, Lord! Didnt we prophesy in
your name? Didnt we expel demons in your name? Didnt we
perform many miracles in your name? Then I will tell them to their
faces, I never knew you! Get away from me, you workers of
lawlessness!
