INTRODUCTION:

The course focuses on theories of psychology and sociology; self and identity; social
perception and cognition; attitudes; perception; socialization: foundation of social
behavior; social influence; helping relationship and counseling; aggression;
interpersonal attraction and relationships; group cohesion and conformity;
intergroup conflict.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Learners who have completed this course would be able to understand the concept
of psychology and sociology; self and identity; social perception and cognition;
attitudes; behavior; socialization; social influence and persuasion; helping
relationship; interpersonal attraction; group cohesion and conflict.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Learners who have completed this course would be able to:

Describe the concepts of psychology and sociology, and the diversity of the
field.
2.
Analyze critically about individual and social behavior in order to develop
informed opinions.
3.
Identify major contributors to the field of psychology and sociology and
describe their work.
4.
Identify major sociological and psychological principles and theories.

COURSE POLICY/ATTENDANCE POLICY


Students are required to abide by the universitys Academic Regulation pertaining to all
matters during their course of study. Learners are advised to take note that class attendance
is very important. Learners who do not meet the attendance requirement will be barred from
sitting for the final examination.

You are expected to fulfill the following requirements of the course to obtain a grade:
Participation (In Class and online) (10%)
Students are required to attend and participate actively in class discussion, exercises,
assignment presentations and other class activities. It is just not enough to read and
study the lectures given by the instructor, or to participate mentally in the discussion
without voicing out your opinions or relating your own experiences

Assignment 1(30%)

Each student is required to submit written assignment of selected cases. These case
exercises must be done individually or group. Due dates for submission are indicated in
Course Schedule. You need to submit a hardcopy of the assignment to your respective
lecturer
Please refer to UNIEC for details of project/assignment.

Exercises(10%)

There will be FIVE (5) exercises given out in class throughout the semester. Marks will
be given for each submission and all the marks will be accumulated to 10% of the total
coursework marks for the semester.

Final Examination (50%)


Final examination coverage will be announced by course leader. Students may refer to
the test plan posted uniec for coverage. Students who are unable to sit for the exam on

the stipulated date must produce necessary document(s) to enable themselves to sit for
