(NICE) National Institute for Career Education was set up in 1988 and registered by Delhi

Administration, Government of India with strategic aims:

To formulate and implement policies governing the provision of career education
and guidance;
To develop innovative, appropriate and effective methods and materials for career
development that enable informed educational, training and occupational choices.
To provide an interface and vital networking channel with greater collaboration,
cooperation and cohesion for a diverse and fragmented community of career
guidance professionals.
To devise and conduct relevant research and to provide a forum for disseminating
effectively its findings and co-ordinating communication with other bodies engaged
in similar activities.
To provide training and continuing education programs for career development
professionals who help people make career decisions with up to date knowledge of
career education pathways and resultant decision making.
To propagate the activities of NICE and impart training to professionals in the field of
career development a website www.niceducation.org has been created.
Our vision & mission
NICE's mission is to assist individuals of any age and at any point throughout their lives
with tools and the opportunity to make the best possible choices about life direction, career
and education pathway.
Helping students make smart decisions about education and learning in India and abroad.
It's our goal that adults can confidently manage their own careers throughout their lives.
We believe that right guidance at the right time improves the chances of success in ones
life. Easy availability and systematic presentation greatly enhance the use of guidance
services.
Providing exceptional value in Career Development has been a cornerstone objective of the
organisation. Our programme and personnel have just ONE specific focus Excellence in
Career Education. We live and breathe career guidance! Nothing else gets in the way.
Career Education
NICE originated holistic career development more than thirty years ago and created an
innovative methodology that leads to unparalleled results. We are practical idealists and
confident that our career development programs are the best in the world. A strong
commitment to research and improvement ensures that we stay the best.
It is no longer enough just to be successful. These days, people want to enjoy their work as
well. They want to be enthusiastic, to look forward to each day. They want careers that
express their talents fully. They want to do something that matters to them, something that
they are proud of.
National Institute for Career Education recognises that authentic and impartial guidance
has the ability to radically transform the lives of individuals and their communities, and
provides transformative education as its prime focus. We offer specialised courses to suit
the different needs of career guidance professionals, and those involved in the development
of individuals and communities.
Training & Certification as Career Development Professional
1 | Page

Helping people to discover suitable occupations and to progress in their working career is a
most satisfying vocation. You may already have some experience of advising students and
providing them with information about jobs and educational opportunities, or you may be
wishing simply to gain sufficient knowledge to become a careers adviser in a school, or a
careers development officer in private practice. In any case, we hope the course will meet
your expectations, and provide the knowledge, skills, and insights you will require to
achieve your own career goals and satisfy your future work needs.
Gain the training and certification necessary to work as a career development professional.
The programme provides theoretical conception and practical skills to become a
professional practitioner within the field of career guidance. Graduates will be equipped
with an in-depth knowledge of the practice of career guidance in India and will develop a
professional approach which will enable them to work in the public and private sector.
Possible Vocational Outcomes
After completion of certification programme as a Career Development Professional,
participants will be competent to perform duties appropriate to the career guidance
industry and you will be able to be placed in the following roles:
Education Advisor in educational, training and voluntary organisations
Career Development Officer in corporate sector
Careers Adviser in Schools
Career Counsellor in Colleges/Institutes
Training and Placement Officer in universities and higher learning centres
Career Coach and Mentor in private practice
Career Guidance Professional in training and employment services
Career Consultant in Human Resource Departments.
Study Mode
Training is available both regular and distance learning mode. The self-paced online
training programme is a convenient way of studying when distance, transport
arrangements or work and family commitments make attending class difficult.
Distance education, or studying externally, has more advantages than disadvantages. You
can learn at your own pace, at a time convenient to you. You may take a relatively short
time or a longer time to complete a module, but it is unwise (except in unusual
circumstances) to take more than one month to complete any module. Your interest and
motivation may begin to lag if you adopt a very casual approach.
Many people consider that the main disadvantage for distance education students is that
they cannot interact face to face with their teacher while they are learning. However,
National Institute for Career Education gives an opportunity to directly interact with
Instructors of the course. Students are fully supported by faculty members and are
available to clarify doubts or discuss topics and answer any questions via face to face,
telephone or online contact.
Our experience (which is supported by research) is that external students are usually more
highly motivated, and achieve slightly better results (on average) than students attending
lectures. Distance education students need to follow a self-imposed schedule of study hours,
in order to cover all the reading, revision, and preparation of Assessment Tasks that is
required.
Duration
2 | Page

This is a self-paced training comprising of theory + activities + practical. It totally depends

on individual student how fast s/he finishes the training. Maximum duration to complete
the training is 6 months.

Competency based training

The actual competencies that the training addresses are the benchmarks for assessment.
There are two assignments to be completed for each of the 12 modules that comprise the
course. Most of these are based on the module you have studied.
After completion/submission of the practical assignment, you will receive a Module
Assessment Feedback (MAF) in which your Instructor will go into greater detail
concerning your performance as it relates to the competencies involved. The MAF report
will be updated on the website along with the marks obtained. You need to sign in to
website and send message/eMail to the Institute to show that you have read the Instructors
feedback.
If you are deemed not to have satisfied with the assessment remarks and marks of a
particular practical assignment, you may request that your assignment be assessed by
another Instructor (with all comments by the original Instructor removed). If the second
Instructor also judges that your Assessment Task shows you are Not Competent, you
should contact your Course Co-ordinator to allot a fresh Assignment for the same
competency; i.e. you do an alternative assignment based on the module.
The purpose of the whole assessment process is to enable independent, qualified Instructors
to honestly certify that you, the student, have achieved the competency taught in the
module and (ultimately) all the competencies taught in the course, and are thereby
qualified to deliver career development services to the public.
How competencies and training are related

National Institute for Career Education emphasises that progress in education and training
be measured according to the achievement of precise Units of Competency. This means the
trainees/students will only satisfactorily complete the course when they are able
(competent) to do (perform) specific tasks as per the twelve Units of Competency as listed
above.
Although participants will satisfy the assessment required for each module that they study,
their real aim is to achieve the competencies being taught in that module. Only if an
assessment task provides evidence that the participant has achieved the competency, will
s/he be able to receive a statement of attainment for that competency, or (when the
participant/student has achieved all 12 competencies - through assessment) will s/he be able
to receive the Certificate as Career Development Professional.
