PROFILE:
Robello Samuel is a Chief Technical Advisor in the Drilling division of Halliburton and working
with Halliburton since 1998. He is currently a technical and engineering lead for a well
planning engineering applications for drilling and completions operations and responsible for
world-wide technical support in the area of drilling engineering. He has more than twenty two
years of multi-disciplinary experience in domestic and international oil/gas drilling and
completion operations, management, consulting, software development and teaching and one
year creditable work experience in a manufacturing industry. His skills include practical and
theoretical background in on-shore and off-shore well engineering, design, cost estimates,
supervision of drilling and completion operations, personnel and technical review; project
management; and creative establishment of project relationships through partnering and
innovation. He has been an educator in USA, Venezuela, Mexico, China and India and an
adjunct Professor at the University of Houston for the past nine years teaching Drilling and
Well Completions courses. He has published more than 90 technical papers, reports, books.
He is presently serving as a Review Chairman on the Journal of Drilling and Completions and
Journal of Petroleum Sciences and Engineering Editorial Review Committees, and co-chairman
of SPE Multilateral Technical Interest Group. Also reviewer for projects of Natural Sciences and
Engineering Research Council of Canada. Samuels unique blend of skills as a field engineer,
researcher and teacher helped him to author four drilling books and a forthcoming book
Drilling Engineering Optimization. He started his career working on rigs as a rig drilling
engineer. He has also worked at Oil and Natural Gas Corporation from 1983 to 1992 as a field
drilling engineer. He holds BS and MS degrees in mechanical engineering, as well as MS and
PhD degrees in petroleum engineering.

Provide guidance and direction on drilling and cross disciplinary projects of major
significance which are highly difficult and complex in nature. Conceive and develop
creative/innovative technology drilling solutions critical to the company's success. Make
decisions and recommendations that are authoritative and have far reaching impact on
research and scientific activities of the company. Serve as a corporate resource,
providing technical direction and advice to management in long-range planning for new
or projected areas of drilling software application. Design, research, and develop new
applications and major enhancements in the drilling applications. Participate with
management, product line, and customers in developing new applications and
technologies including joint industry projects. Apply theories, principles and practices to
the research and development of new and improved drilling products, processes and
procedures.
