La variacin de los polos requiere motores especiales, proyectados para
cambiar los polos por medio de conexiones, en las que los devanados se
conectan en serie o en paralelo. Se dispone de motores de induccin de
2 y 4 velocidades conmutables, pero estas propiedades de cambio de
velocidad estn limitadas a los motores de induccin polifsicos mas
pequeos.

Estructura
Un variador de frecuencia est constituido por dos bloques principales,
un rectificador de diodos y un inversor; y al ser este ltimo bloque el
que realiza la variacin de frecuencia, se suelen denominar inversores a
los variadores de frecuencia.

Principio de operacin
Los componentes bsicos del variador de frecuencia son: el conversor
de comente, el inversor de corriente, el regulador y la seccin de
referencia ( Fig. 1) . El conversor de corriente convierte la CA de la
lnea en CC. El inversor de comente invierte la CC a CA de voltaje y
frecuencia variables. El regulador controla las funciones y respuestas
del conversor y el inversor. La seccin de referencia es un

Circuito de Control
El circuito de control es la parte del variador que controla todas las
funciones que este puede realizar, se encarga adems de recibir y de
enviar todas las seales de control que el variador puede manejar. Este
circuito no es tan crtico en lo que errores a conexin se refiere, pero, si
es fundamental para la operacin correcta del variador

Los valores de tiempo de aceleracin y desaceleracin en la mayora de
inversores van desde 0.1 seg. hasta 3600 seg. Se debe tener mucho
cuidado el momento que se ajuste estos valores, ya que un arranque o
una parada demasiada brusca puede provocar daos irreversibles en el
motor o en la carga debido a la inercia que involucra.

Entradas y salidas:
Las entradas y salidas de potencia son idnticas en todos los variadores,
pero las E/S de control son las que establecen la diferencia. Un variador
que disponga de E/S de alarmas, multivelocidades, fijacin de
frecuencia por entradas analgicas de voltaje o corriente, es un ndice de
funcionalidad de un inversor a ser utilizado.

PARA EL PLC MITSUBISHI FX
El PLC es una coleccin de relevadores, timers, contadores alambrados
internamente, de modo que, estos podan ser conectados de acuerdo a las
necesidades de cada uno de los procesos, colocados y fijados cada uno
de sus parmetros por medio de un programador .
Algunas instrucciones estn constituidas de varios elementos, algunas
otras solo de una palabra. En consecuencia es importante familiarizarnos
con las instrucciones para lograr una programacin ESCALERA, STEP
LADDER o DIAGRAM LADDER.

La diferencia entre niveles es lo que determina la carga esttica.
Referente a las bombas, el nivel de descarga y el de succin fijan la
carga esttica total aplicada.
La carga esttica de descarga es la diferencia entre el nivel del lquido y
la lnea de centros de la bomba. Si la carga esttica de succin posee un
valor negativo, es debido a que el nivel de agua de succin se encuentra
por debajo de la lnea de centro de la bomba.

Carga de friccin
La friccin ocasionada por la tubera, vlvulas y otros accesorios en el
flujo del lquido obliga a que se realice un bombeo extra de no existir
ste. La carga de friccin se expresa en pies del lquido que se bombea
y esta prdida vara proporcionalmente al cuadrado del flujo en el
sistema.
Al calcular las prdidas por friccin se debe tener en cuenta que stas
aumentan conforme la tubera se deteriora con el tiempo. Un promedio
de vida de las tuberas en uso es de 10 a 15 aos.

Cavitacin
La cavitacin ocurre cuando la presin absoluta dentro de un impulsor
cae por abajo de la presin de vapor del liquido y se forman burbujas de
vapor. Estas se contraen mas adelante en los alabes del impulsor cuando
llegan a una regin de presin ms alta.
La coordinacin con la NPSH requerida mnima, la cual se define como
la diferencia entre la carga absoluta de succin y la presin de vapor del
liquido bombeado a la temperatura de bombeo, evitan la cavitacin.

Detectores de nivel
El control de una bomba en un tanque elevado se encuentra gobernado
de acuerdo al nivel de agua que se encuentre en ste, si el nivel se
encuentra en un mnimo ajustado, se da la orden de encendido de la
bomba hasta llegar a un nivel prefijado como mximo, donde se detiene
la bomba.
Este sistema consiste en tres electrodos (Es=superiorJ Ei=inferior,
Er^referencia) que controlan el nivel de agua. El electrodo de referencia
"Er" debe estar instalado bajo el nivel mnimo o colado en la carcaza del

Cada uno de estos tipos posee sus caractersticas propias de control; sin
embargo, si el objetivo primordial es el ahorro de energa, el control de

mximo y mnimo existe una variacin de 0.8 Kg/cm2; en cambio con el
sistema de variadores de frecuencia la variacin entre el nivel mximo y
mnimo que toma la columna de lquido, solo depende de la velocidad
de respuesta del sistema, es decir, de la aceleracin o desaceleracin de
la unidad motriz; valores que pueden ser ajustados en el variador gracias
a su gran flexibilidad. En el sistema de variadores, la presin de la
columna de salida vara alrededor de un +/-5% del valor ptimo fijado
para distribucin, porcentaje que depende del tiempo fijado en la
aceleracin y desaceleracin del sistema.

El control on-off de esta bomba depende de la seal enviada por el
variador de frecuencia, el momento que el variador sobrepasa el valor de
fp = 43.0 Hz, se envia una seal de rel al PLC3 una vez recibida la
seal, el PLC ordena el encendido del arranque estrella tringulo luego
de un tiempo ta = 1 mim. como la presin sube inmediatamente que
arranca la bomba el variador, empezara a bajar su velocidad, esto trae

This function is used for calibraton when Pr.54 has been set

described at Pr.54, the valu has been factory-set so that 10

9 Connecting a seprate power supply to the control circuir

Operation
i When a contactor is installed between the inverter output
and the motor, be certain the inverter is at O frequency
before the contactor s opened, or the votage spike from
the collapsng motor field could damage the inverter.
A protectve function actvales to stop inverter output when
a fault occurs. However, the motor does not suddenly stop.
If an emergenq' stop is needed, a external mechanical stop
must be provided.
i Discharging of capacitor takes some time even if the power
s off. Make sure the charge lamp on the control board is off
before inspeoion. Use meter to check whether votage has
dropped.
i Inverter operation generates more motor noise than acrossthe-line operation.
Wiring
i Inverter s severly damaged if power is appfied to its output
terminis (U, V, and W). Careftilly recheck wiring prior to
tuming power on.
i P, Pl, and N terminis are ONLY used to connect dedicated
options. Also, do not jumper power terminal 10 for frequency setting and common terminal 5.

The parameter unit enables settings for high-speed
operation at 400 Hz (mximum). If settings are erroneous,
operauons may be dangerous. Set the upper limit using an
upper-limit frequency set function.
(The mximum frequency during operation from an extemal
input signa! is factory set to 60Hz. The PU operaon is set
to 120 Hz.)
Brake duty (Pr.70) of regenerative brake used is set only
when an optional brake resistor is used. This function is
used to protect the resistor from overheatng. Make sure
that the duty cycle of the brake resistor used does not
exceed the allowable valu.
DC injection braking time and votage are adjustable.
Increasng these vales above the factor}' standard settings
may cause excessive motor heating.
Set base freque'ncy'CPr.3) and base frequency votage (Pr.19)
to motor's corresponding ratings.

input circuit if connection s made just under a high capacity
power transformer. This may damage the inverter. In this

8 Selection Precautions

motor or motors rated current does nol exceed the inverter
rated output current.

Acceieration/deceeraton time
i The acceleration/deceleration time of a motor s determined
by its torque characteristics, load torque that if generates,
and the load moment of nenia (GDZ).
i Acceleration/deceleration time may increase when the current limit or stall preventive function is activated. Adjust the
acceleration/deceleration accordingly.
i To make the acceleration/deceleration time shorter,
increase the torque boost valu or improve the capacity of
inverter and motor (an excessively high boost valu activates the current limit function during start up and may
lengthen the acceleration time). To make the deceJeration
time shorter, add a BU brake unit with resistor, or the FR-RC
power regenerative converter.
9 Radio interference
The input and output of the inverter main circuit contain higher
harmonic components that may interfere with communication
equipment (such as AM radios) and sensors that are being used
cise to the invener. You can reduce interference by anaching
a radio noise filter FR-BIF (special for the input side) and a lne
noise filter FR-BLF to the inverter.

High-speed switching of the inverter increases leakage currents more than during commercial power operation. Be
sure to ground inverters and motors. Use the ground terminal of the inverter to ground the invener (do not use the
invener case or chassis).

This high speed zone compare function directly controls the outputs according to the valu of a high speed counter.
With che counter valu as zero at the reset position, this function effectively controls 3 outputshigh speed, low speed and
braketo perform the essentials of simple positioning.
In the application example, the movements of the roller are
sensed by an encoder and counted at high speed by the FX. The
motor is then controlled by the above direct output function to
provide the correct length of feed for the cut.
Interrupt Inputs
It is vitally important that reaction to any high-priority or emergency input be as rapid as possible.
- Te interrupt inputs (max. 6 points) of the FX halt normal
program execution as soon as the appropriate signa! is received.
The interruption takes the form of a user-programmed interrupt
routine which is executed with priority over normal program
execution. Different interrupts initiate different interrupt routines, thereby providing the rapid response necessary to prevent
probiems before they occur.

Basic Instruction
This is an instruciion within the most simple set of instructions
used to describe the basic ladder diagram. Examples are LD, AND
and OUT. The FX has two other sets: Stepladder and Applied
Instructions.
EPROM
Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EPROM) retains its
contents without a power supply. As its ame suggests, it is basically read only memory, but its contents can be erased using an
ultra-violet Hght eraser, then rewritten by a ROM writer.
The FX-20P-RWM ROM water can be used to write data to the
FX's EPROM cassettes once the od contents have been erased by
an ultra-violet eraser.
EPROMs are designed to provide safe non-volatile program
memory to hold programs, comments and file register data. Most
programmers use RAM for programming because it offers easier
reading and writng. On completion, the final versin can be
safely written to the FX's EPROM cassette and used to run the
controller with assurance.

In. the F/X.many devices are already in the battery-backed
status and'wl allow the creation of auto~recovery routnes on
the restoration of power. There is also a special parameter feature
, which allows the user to select the range of devices that are to be
jS>battery-backed.

l-phase counters use one count input only and the count direction is determined by a secondary input or internally controlled
by settng special relays in the controller.
2-phase counters use two count inputSj often called phase A
and B, which are either +90 or -90 out of phase with each
other. The direction of the count can be determined by the phase
difference. The advantage is that since both of these signis are
derived at high speed from the same encoder, forward and backward movements can be detected automatically.

^Opto-isolation
Such isolation can be found at the inputs and outputs of the FX
programmable controller. Isolation is effected by photocouplers
which prevent elctrica! current from flowing from one side of a
Circuit to another, even in the event of a failure in the device.
They therefore offer protection by ensuring that a short circuit
error in an input does not damage other inputs or outputs.
Routtne/Subroutine
A section of a prograrn which performs a definable job can be
regarded as a rouune^When such a Job has to be executed many
times in the program', -che FX allows it to be programrned only
once as a subroutine which can then be initated whenever a
CALL instruction s encountered.
Time Sharing
Time sharing is a technlque in which the same Unes are used to
duve different devices over a time allocauon. This technique is
^particularly effective in the input and output of numencal data
usng thebinary coded decimal format. The FX has many applied
nstructions which sirriplify the application of this technique.
Snce each digit uses 4 points of inputs or outputs, a huge
number of inputs and outputs are unjustifably devoted to the
mere Job of numencal input and output. With time sharing, only
4 common input or output points are used to pass data to thumbwheel switches or digital display units. Additional select signis
and'atch circuitry are required, however, but they can sometimes offer the econmica! solution required.
^Transistor Output
*The transistor is used to drive DC loads only. The mximum load
voltage in the case of the FX is 30V. While the FX's transistors
offer a more limited range of load ratings than the relay, they
have the advantage of a very ong Ufe and a fast response.
Triac (SSR) Output
The triac is used to drive AC loads only. In the case of the FX, the
mximum load voltage range is relatively wide, extending from
85 V to 242V. The triac's current rating is slightly lower than that
,of the relay, but it has the advantage of a very long life.
Program Memory
The programmable controller controls its outputs according to
its inputs in the manner described in its ladder circuit. The ladder
circuit is the program and must be created or transferred to the
controller. The program is stored in the program memory.
Normally, the program memory is inside the FX base unit with
a capacity of 2K steps (2000). Optional cassettes can be moumed
on the FX to gJvc it more capacity or mantenance-free features.
RAM
Random Access Meinory (RAM) can be directly read and written
to by the processor of the controller. It is volate in the sense that
its contents are lost when power is removed, so a backup battery
is normally used to preserve its contents when the externa!
power supply is cut off.
In the FX, RAM. is used to store programs, information on the
status of devices like timers and relay contacts, and comments. In
addition to the 2K steps of interna! memory provided as standard,
an 8K step RAM rnemory cassette is available as an option to
expand the FX's memory capacity to 8 K steps.
