1.0 Introduction
Open Source Hardware Consists of physical artifacts of technology designed and
offered by the open design movement. It is created by this open source culture movement
and applies a like concept to a variety of components. The term usually means that
information about the hardware is easily discerned. Hardware design such as mechanical
drawings, schematics, bills of material, PCB layout data, HDL source code and
integrated circuit layout data, in addition to the software that drives the hardware, are all
released with the FOSS (free and open-source software) approach.

Open Source Software - Computer software with its source code made available
and licensed with a license in which the copyright holder provides the rights to study,
change and distribute the software to anyone and for any purpose. Open-source software
is very often developed in a public, collaborative manner. Open-source software is the
most prominent example of open-source development and often compared to technically
defined user-generated content or legally defined open-content movements.

2.0 The Latest Open Source Operating System

2.1Meaning of Open Source OS

An operating system is a set of programs containing instructions that coordinate

all the activities among computer hardware resources. Most operating system
perform similar function that includes starting a computer, provide a user
interface, managing program, managing memory and configuring devices. Some
operating system also allows user to control a network and administer security.
Open Source Operating System is any operating system that is free to use and
which provides the original code where the source code is available (under a
copyright license) to the public, which enables them to use, modify / enhance the
operating system, and redistribute the modified (or unmodified) form of the
operating system. The advance user can modify the code of the operating system
to make it works better for them in starting the computer or a likely user
interface.

2.2.1 Android 4.4 (KitKat)
After three Jelly Bean releases in a row, Google has unleashed a major revision to
the world's most widely used operating system. With the Nexus 5 comes Android
4.4 "KitKat." KitKat brings a ton of enhancements: support for hidden system
and status bars, printer support, and lower memory usage. It also has a number of
user-level improvements, including a new dialer, a Google-infused home screen,
and a whole pile of UI refinements.

2.2.2 Microsoft Windows 8
Windows 8 is a personal computer operating system developed by Microsoft as
part of Windows NT family of operating systems. Development of Windows 8
started before the release of its predecessor, Windows 7, in 2009. It was
announced at CES 2011, and followed by the release of three pre-release
versions from September 2011 to May 2012. The operating system was released

to manufacturing on August 1, 2012, and was released for general availability

on October 26, 2012. Windows 8 introduced major changes to the operating
system's platform and user interface to improve its user experience on tablets,
where Windows was now competing with mobile operating systems, including
Android and iOS.

3.1Meaning of open source application Software
Open source application software is computer software that is available in source
code form for which the source code and certain other rights normally reserved
for copyright holders are provided under a software license that permits users to
study, change, and improve the software. Open source licenses often meet the
requirements of the Open Source Definition. Some open source application
software is available within the public domain. Open source application software
is very often developed in a public, collaborative manner. Open source
application software is the most prominent example of open source development
and often compared to user-generated content or open content movements. The
term open source application software originated as part of a marketing campaign
for free application software.

4 Pervasive Computing
4.1Meaning of pervasive computing

An advanced computing concept where computing is made to appear everywhere

and anywhere. In contrast to desktop computing, ubiquitous computing can occur
using any device, in any location, and in any format. A user interacts with the
computer, which can exist in many different forms, including laptop computers,
tablets, terminals and phones. The underlying technologies to support ubiquitous
computing include Internet, advanced middleware, operating system, mobile code,
sensors, microprocessors, new I/O and user interfaces, networks, mobile
protocols, location and positioning and new materials.

4.2.1

Smartphones
A smartphone, or smart phone, is a term for distinguishing mobile
phones with advanced features from basic feature phones. Early
smartphones typically combined the features of a mobile phone with
those of another popular consumer device, such as a personal digital
assistant (PDA), a media player, a digital camera, and/or a GPS
navigation unit. Modern smartphones include all of those features plus
the features of a laptop, including web browsing, Wi-Fi, and 3rd-party
apps and accessories.

4.2.2

Smart TV
A smart TV, sometimes referred to as connected TV or hybrid TV, (not
to be confused with IPTV, Internet TV, or with Web TV), describes a
trend of integration of the Internet and Web 2.0 features into television
sets and set-top boxes, as well as the technological convergence
between computers and television sets and set-top boxes. The devices
have a higher focus on online interactive media, Internet TV, over-the-

top content, as well as on-demand streaming media, and home

networking access, with much less focus on the traditional
broadcasting media that traditional television sets and set-top boxes
offers.

Open Source can be used

by anyone and

because

no

improve the software, and

to redistribute it

in modified or unmodified forms. Pervasive Computing is to make our lives easier

because we can interact with computers. Besides that, we can easily give the
computer commands and the computer will grant your wish.
