In the Map View window, the horizontal and vertical toolbars have been improved. This affects both
ASSET and CONNECT.
The rearranged toolbars provide a clearer presentation of the options, with the emphasis on easier
access to the more commonly used buttons. This rearrangement has been partly achieved by
nesting the less commonly used buttons into groups.
14
This is what the Map View's horizontal toolbar now looks like:
This is what the Map View's vertical toolbar now looks like:
The Distance Measurement group of buttons has been moved to the left so that it sits next
to the Tracking Cursor button.
All Zoom options are now together on the toolbar. There are now five different zooming
buttons: Zoom to Point, from Corner, from Centre, to Scale, to Filters.
Note: The zooming options that used to be accessible by right-clicking in the Map View
have all been relocated to the horizontal toolbar. The 'Home' and 'Last' option now exist
within the Zoom to Scale button, but the quickest way to choose 'Home' and 'Last' is to use
the respective keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+H and Ctrl+Z.
Finding and Editing Objects (Quick Finder, Jump to Location, Display Site Tips, Site Quick
Edit, Cell Quick Edit) are now grouped together.
There is a new
button in the toolbar, providing a quick way to open the Map
Information (Gadgets) pane.
The 'Favourite Views' drop-down box is wider, so that it can display longer names.
The 'Add Vector' button is now inside the Vector Manager dialog box.
The Coverage/Array buttons have been slightly rearranged so that these options are the
easiest to access:

Other Improvements
'Delete' Event Support added to the Database Events API
In previous versions, ENTERPRISE stores an event for committing data to the database, but it
does not store an event for deleting data permanently from the wastebasket. From 9.0, a new
'Delete' event has been introduced that stores the deletions (for the parent object) when deleting
data permanently from the wastebasket.

Ability to Load Multiple 3ga Files from Disk into the Array Manager
Previously, it was only possible to load a single 3ga file from disk into the Array Clipboard section of
the Array Manager.
Now, you can use the Shift key and the Ctrl key to select/de-select multiple entries.
This enables you to select multiple 3ga files and load them in one operation.

Scenario 2:
Here is an example where the carrier aggregation is achieved by a common CA Cell Identity within
each cell.
This configuration disallows multiple instances of a carrier in the same carrier-aggregated group.
20
The Site Database now contains a new Carrier Aggregation tab, where you can view and
edit the configurations at the eNodeB level, which contains a summary of its cells.
Alternatively, you can do this on the LTE Params tab of an individual cell.
This picture shows an example of the Carrier Aggregation tab for an eNodeB in the Site
Database:
You can use the LTE CA Cell Identity Planner to gather single-carrier cells belonging to
the same eNodeB into 'carrier-aggregated' groups of cells. It allows you to choose from
two strategies for forming 'carrier-aggregated' cells, as shown in this picture:
For details of the above functionality, see "Configuring Support for LTE Carrier Aggregation" and
"About the LTE CA Cell Identity Planner" in the ASSET User Reference Guide.

The chosen method determines the number of resource blocks over which a terminal is
instantaneously attempting to transmit. Given the available power of a terminal, a larger number of
allocated resource blocks will result in more thinly spread power and therefore in lower achieved
SINR and consequently lower rate bearers.
You can choose from these three options:
Method
Description
Maintain Connection Power is transmitted on all available resource blocks as far as a bearer can be
achieved. If no bearer can be achieved, the used number of resource blocks is
reduced to maintain connection.
For more information, see "Adding an LTE Service" and "About Uplink Bandwidth Allocation" in the
ASSET User Reference Guide.
26
In a network performance simulation, the TTI Bundling Gain can increase the achievability of the
SINR requirements of the supported bearers for the service, therefore realising a gain. Equally,
these parameters in the UL and DL directions can be generically used to model other servicespecific adjustments, which can be positive or negative offsets, to the SINR requirements of the
supported bearers for any LTE service.
TTI Bundling Gains are only applicable to terminals served by cells which support it. This cell
parameter exists on the Scheduling subtab of the LTE Params tab for a cell in the Site Database:
For details of the options in the Services dialog box, see "LTE Services - LTE Params Tab" in the
ASSET User Reference Guide.
27
The values are shown on the General tab of the cell. This picture shows an example:
Note: For LTE, the maximum cell range can also be used as part of the RACH RSI planning
process.
Although you can manually specify these values, ASSET also provides a Maximum Cell Range
Calculator, which, based on your chosen filters, carriers and arrays, calculates the values for each
cell and stores them in the Site Database.
28
For details, see "About the Maximum Cell Range Calculator" in the ASSET User Reference Guide.
29
The Services dialog box and the Terminal Types dialog box allow you to define multi-technology
services and multi-technology terminal types, respectively.
Optionally, you can also model the effects of interference from carriers of different technology types
(inter-technology interference). The results can be analysed in the interference arrays and reports.
This is achieved by setting the appropriate parameters (noise rise, channel protection) in the Site
Database, as well as setting the frequency and attenuation values on the carriers.
30
After running a multi-technology simulation, you can generate the required composite arrays. Here
is an example:
For full details, see "Setting Up Multiple Technology Simulations" in the ASSET User Reference
Guide.
The old fields for Adjacent carrier selections and the Attenuations are now removed, and there are
six new fields.
Under the new concept, you do not now need to set the adjacency of the carriers explicitly by
having to specify two adjacent carriers. Instead, it is calculated automatically when needed by the
Simulator using the Low/High frequencies of all the carriers (of any technology) that are used in the
simulation.
31
Therefore, if you wish to model the inter-carrier and inter-technology interference accurately, use
you should ensure these six values are set appropriately. Here is an example:
For full details, see Defining Carriers for UMTS" and "Defining Carriers for Wi-Fi" in the ASSET
User Reference Guide.
Carriers considered as overlapping are treated as identical by the planning algorithm and for the
output report.
Relevant messages will appear in the message log showing the carriers that are considered as
overlapping when the planning has completed.
32
Note: If you do not want the planning algorithm to check for matching substrings, you can resolve
this by contacting Product Support.
For further details, see "Consideration of Overlapping Carriers" in the ASSET User Reference
Guide.
This feature addresses the following customer enhancement request:

With regard to how the LTE PCI Planner handles different carriers with the

Generate arrays where the propagation effects from every cell are considered
simultaneously, so that the cells 'compete' in each pixel (this was available in previous
versions)
- and/or -
Generate individual per-cell arrays, where the propagation effect from each cell is
considered in isolation from all other cells (this is the new option in version 9.0)
If you choose the per-cell option, each cell in the selected filters will have its own individual array
created. These per-cell arrays are individually sized and are not limited by the specified Map View
region, unless you choose the Limit checkbox.
In addition, in relation to either of the above options, you can now choose to exclude the generation
of the following arrays, to save processing time:

Here is an example of the Map Information Control after generating per-cell arrays:

Normally, ASSET generates these 'service area' arrays with automatically assigned random colours
to represent each cell. For many users this is sufficient for their needs.
However, in ASSET 9.0 (for GSM, UMTS, LTE and Wi-Fi), if you want to have more control over
the colours used, there are two things you can do:
You can set a service area colour for specific cells in the Site Database
If you set a colour for a cell in the Site Database, that colour will persist for that particular
cell in all future 'service area' arrays. This setting is on the General tab of the cell:
(After you have displayed the array, if you then change the colour in the Site Database for
a cell, you can 'redraw' the array and you will see the new colour immediately.)
- and/or
You can persist all the colours that have been assigned automatically by the array
After you have generated and displayed a 'service area' array, you can use an option in the
Array Manager to persist all the automatically assigned colours for the cells in the array.
This automatically applies the colours to the relevant cells in the Site Database (the effect
is the same as the manual option above).
This will achieve better consistency in the colours used for each cell each time you output
the same 'service area' array for these cells.
35
You can also reverse this operation, and clear the colour settings in the Site Database for
those cells included in that array.
For arrays on the Array Clipboard and Simulation headings, if you load a (previously saved)
array into the Array Manager, there is also an option to 'Update colours from Site DB',
which means you can use the Site Database colours when displaying the loaded array in
the Map View. You will see the changed colours when you 'redraw' the array.
For full details, see "Service Area Colouring" in the ASSET User Reference Guide.

When you close a project with some windows open, the same windows will appear automatically in
the same position, when you next open the project.
If you have a number of windows open, with some of them hidden or overlapping, you can use the
Windows and Workspaces dialog box to reorganise your screen, by promoting windows or
closing unwanted windows.
You can create any number of workspaces. A workspace is a combination of windows and dialog
boxes that you use regularly, organised on the screen in a convenient layout. You can set up and
save a variety of workspaces. This enables you to quickly and easily load the required workspace
whenever you need it.
You can use the
