TI Foundation to Award Nearly

$40,000 in Scholarships to Area Students
The Thousand Islands Foundation will award 18 scholarships totaling nearly $40,000 to area students during
awards programs this month at Alexandria Central, Lafargeville Central and Thousand Islands Central Schools.
This years scholarship recipients represent an outstanding class of graduates, said Foundation President
Cary R. Brick, their academic records combined with their school and community activities demonstrate that
our schools are producing young men and women who are motivated and ready to make their marks as they
continue their education and start their careers.
Since its founding in 2002 the Foundation has awarded more than $300,000 in scholarships to more than 200
students from Thousand Islands area schools.
The 2015 scholarship applications were reviewed by a committee of Foundation Board members George
Forbes, Michael Brennan and Dale Kenyon and approved by the full Board, Mr. Brick said.
Scholarships are funded by the interest earned by the Foundations assets of nearly $1.1 million managed and
invested by the Northern New York Community Foundation under its 501 c 3 tax exempt status. The TIF
established an affiliation with the Northern New York Community Foundation for that purpose in 2014.
Contributions are tax deductible and should be made to the NNYCF at 120 Washington Street, Watertown, with
a specification that the funds should be designated for the Thousand Islands Foundation.
The TIF Board is made up of river area residents and maintains its independence for fundraising. It is planning
to establish a vigorous program of fundraising efforts to support the award of future scholarships and is seeking
the assistance of area residents to assist in that endeavor. Expressions of interest should be directed to Messrs.
Brick, Forbes. Brennan or Kenyon or any of the other Board members--- Frank House, John Slattery, Kyle
Faulkner, Jack Freislich, Travis Hoover, Howard Lechler, Jef Martusewicz and Sue Whitney.
In addition to its own scholarships, the TIF also administers named scholarships maintained by families as
memorials, individuals and local organizations.
