Teadit 2236

Certified Low-Leaking Valve Packing Technology

Exceeds TA-Luft
requirement

PACKING

2236
PROPERTIES

TEADIT PACKING 2236 is self-lubricating, nonhardening, dimensionally stable and resistant to gases
and fluids as well as heat, pressure and chemicals.
Its high temperature flexible graphite and Inconel
filament jacket affords mechanical stability while the
advanced construction provides leakage control and
high integrity in steam service.
Due to its physical properties and ability to minimize
friction, TEADIT STYLE 2236 is ideal for valves and can
be used within a broad range of applications.

Fugitive Emission Performance of 2236 in a Used Valve Application

______________________________________________________________________________
Challenge: Is Teadit 2236 Certified Low-Emission Valve Packing
effective on used valves that have previously been in service?
Background: Despite the successful performance results of past API 622
and ChevronTexaco tests, Teadit was recently asked to validate the
fugitive emission (FE) performance of Teadit 2236 packing on a valve
that was previously in service. A Powell, 4 300# Class gate valve was
provided by a large refining company as the test specimen. See figure 1.
Objectives:
x Simulate a repack of a used valve as if it were in the field.
o No Stem Replacement/No weld build up and machining
x Follow Teadit recommended packing installation instructions
x Perform FE testing according to API 622 2 nd Ed. Standard
o 1510 Mechanical Cycles at 600 psig [41 bar]
o 5 Thermal Cycles 0 500 0F [0-2600C]
o
Less than 50 ppm average

(API 622 is <100 ppm for all readings with one re-torque allowed)

Comments:
x No re-torque was performed on the valve during the test
x During the testing of the valve, keeping the valve bushing in working order was a challenge. This is a
potential cause of the increased opening/closing torque during cycles 750-1000.
x Valve re-packs with Teadit 2236 should be considered as an alternative to complete valve
replacements among end-users.
x See attached complete Test Report provided by United Valve.
