It is clear that no one can be made right with God by trying to keep the law. For the Scriptures say, It is through faith that
a righteous person has life (Gal. 3:11, NLT).
This coming week Muslims begin the month-long fast of Ramadan. They will read through the Koran, fast from dawn to
dark, and pray in order to become right with God. As they seek to please Him, let's pray they will become aware of His
mercy and grace that covers our futile human efforts.
In the News
Please pray for our brothers and sisters in Eritrea, a small nation on the Horn of Africa. Muslims make up about half
of the population. Christians in particular face persecution from a heavy-handed government and risk being
imprisoned, beaten, locked in containers, and ordered to renounce Christ. Those who try to make the journey to
Europe or elsewhere (some 5,000 Eritreans attempt to flee their homeland every month) risk capture by Islamist
groups. On June 3, ISIS militants stopped a caravan in Libya, separated the Muslims and Christians, and kidnapped 86
Christians. The next day, in Sudan, another group kidnapped 14 Eritrean believers from a refugee camp. God knows
where they are; pray that they will sense Jesus' presence, for wisdom as they interact with the captors, and for
miraculous release.
