System Test
Access to System Test is via the Eikon for Wealth Management product login page. A simplified
Standalone System Test is available in order to enable a basic check to be completed prior to login. The
full System Test requires the user to enter a valid User ID.
Tests are reached via the Internet at http://eikon.thomsonreuters.com/web, or via Thomson Reuters
Delivery at http://eikon.extranet.thomsonreuters.biz/web and can also be accessed from within the
product from the main toolbar under the Tools menu.
Note: The System Test is a useful diagnostic tool, but is not intended as an exhaustive check of all
customer network configurations. In addition, some third-party applications (such as anti-virus software or
pop-up blockers) may have an adverse effect on the performance of Eikon for Wealth Management.
See Section 2.3 for more information

A supported Java version must be installed and be designated as the default Java Virtual Machine (JVM).
If these conditions are not met, the Eikon for Wealth Management application will not run correctly and
will report an error condition such as the example below. The user can select to continue to use the
product in snapshot mode whereby by no streaming updates will be received, but this is not
recommended for everyday use.
Getting Started
Installing Java
If Java is not installed, or the installed JRE versions are not supported by Eikon for Wealth Management,
then it is necessary to install a supported version of Java. Please contact your IT Support Team or follow
these installation instructions:
1. The latest version of the Oracle Java can be found at the Oracle website
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html.
2. Other versions can be found at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/archive-139210.html
3. Note that only 32-bit versions of JRE are supported for use with Thomson Reuters Eikon for Wealth
Management.
4. Run the downloaded file (e.g., jre-6u17-windows-i586.exe) to install the Java Runtime Environment.
If there are no other JRE's installed, it will automatically become the default JVM.

Getting Started
User-driven web install: The Excel package is automatically installed (via a Microsoft software
installer) the first time the Eikon Excel link is used. The link is located on the main Eikon for
Wealth Management Tools menu.
Direct Installation: The Excel package is downloaded from the Thomson Reuters Customer
Zone (see the Thomson Reuters Eikon for Wealth Management Customer Zone page > Software
Downloads) and managed by the Customer technical teams as part of their desktop build and
rollout processes. For details please see the Direct Installation Technical Guide on the Customer
Zone here
Note: Deployment of v3.0 of Eikon Excel checks for .NET4 and will block the installation of Eikon
Excel should .NET4 not be present. This will be resolved with the release of v3.2, available for
th
download on April 12 2013.
In the meantime, clients can use a workaround by running the following script in the command
line:
For private network connectivity, run bootstrap installer in command line:
TRD8_Excel_WebStart.exe /ADDCOMMAND=_prerequisites=skip
For internet connectivity, run bootstrap installer in command line:
TRD8_Excel_WebStart.internet.exe /ADDCOMMAND=_prerequisites=skip

Check that the browser is configured for optimum Eikon for Wealth Management performance
Note: The dialog box images below are taken from various versions of Internet Explorer 7 and Windows.
Depending on which operating system and browser is deployed, the dialog boxes may differ slightly from
those shown.
ActiveX and Thomson Reuters Eikon for Wealth Management: Note that although ActiveX must be
enabled within the browser, this is used entirely for internal ActiveX scripting. No ActiveX components
are downloaded.
Getting Started
Default security
Note: When using Windows Vista or Windows 7, Protected Mode is enabled at most, but not all,
corporate sites. If using Windows Vista or Windows 7 with Thomson Reuters Eikon Excel, Protected
Mode may require special adjustments, as described later in this section.

Click on Sites
On the next dialog box, add the site to the list of trusted
sites, e.g., *thomsonreuters.com and
*thomsonreuters.biz.
Click OK to save settings
13
Getting Started
Note: Eikon for Wealth Management stores necessary JavaScript files in the browser cache. Whenever
this cache is cleared, the JavaScript files must be re-downloaded which can cause performance
degradation. It is recommended that users should not delete the browser cache
14
Getting Started
Under the Security section, it is very important to deselect (un-check) Do not save encrypted pages to
disk. This saves Eikon for Wealth Management from
having to repeatedly download the same operating
files, which would create performance delays.
Click OK to save settings
If you have changed any of the browser settings in any of the preceding sections,
close and restart the browser before proceeding to the next step!
15
Getting Started
Configure the browser to always check for the latest version of web pages, as shown in the
section Temporary Internet files
Reserve ample disk space for the browser cache a minimum of 1024K, as described in the
section Temporary Internet files
Remember that users should not delete the browser cache unless there is an overriding
reason to do so. In other words, do not erase the "browsing history" or "temporary Internet files".
Every time the browser cache is cleared, all the required files must be downloaded again when
the service is next accessed, which can result in performance degradation.
Configure the browser to not delete encrypted files from the browser cache, as noted in section
Optimise browser performance. Again, some of these files may be required by Eikon for
Wealth Management, and if they are deleted, they must be downloaded again the next time that
the product is accessed.

Ports used
HTTP (port 80) and HTTPS (port 443) must be enabled for successful connection to the Thomson
Reuters Eikon for Wealth Management service.
Persistent connections are network friendly they create less network traffic due to less-frequent
setting up and tearing down of TCP connections.
They are also faster there is reduced latency on successive requests, due to elimination of the initial
TCP handshake.
Persistent connections allow sufficient time for TCP to determine the network's congestion level, and
thus to respond appropriately.
The advantages are even more obvious with HTTPS (or HTTP over SSL/TLS). Persistent connections
may reduce the number of costly SSL/TLS handshakes needed to establish security associations, in
addition to the initial TCP connection setup.
19
Getting Started
In HTTP/1.1, persistent connections are the default behavior of any connection. That is, unless otherwise
indicated, the client should assume that the server will maintain a persistent connection even after error
responses from the server. However, the protocol provides a means for the client and server to signal the
closing of a TCP connection.
Authentication
Both products Eikon for Wealth Management and the Eikon Excel add-on support authentication on
the following proxy servers:
FreeProxy
Microsofts Forefront/ISA proxy
NTLM/Basic
Content checking
Content-checking gateways provide proactive security for active Web content. They perform real-time
inspections of streaming data, ActiveX, Java, and scripts, checking for malicious code and protecting
workstations from security threats. Such devices are centrally managed, and can be defined with flexible
security policies for departments and users.
Content checking should not be performed for the domains used by Eikon for Wealth
Management, and should be deactivated if necessary. These domains are listed in section Error!
Reference source not found..
Tightening security
The settings above do not need to be applied globally to the Internet zone only to the Thomson Reuters
domains, e.g., "*.thomsonreuters.com" or "*.extranet.thomsonreuters.biz".

3. Make sure your User Details are correct. (You can change them later if you decide they are
incorrect.) Select your Job Role and Market focus.
21
Getting Started
4. It is recommended that the System Test utility is run to ensure that the basic PC configuration is
correct for Eikon for Wealth Management. This is optional, however, and you can proceed to log on
to the product without running the System Test.
Note: Users who are migrating from Reuters Wealth Manager will have their important user data (e.g.
flexsheets, quote lists, alerts, etc.) migrated during the initial login simply follow the onscreen
instructions. New users will be directly connected to the service.
5. First Time Login is now completed. Users are logged in to Thomson Reuters Eikon for Wealth
Management and are presented with a splash screen. The splash screen appears for the first time a
user logs into Eikon for Wealth Management, and provides a high level overview of key features and
workflows, as well as support information. It can also be accessed from the Help menu within the
product at any time.
