New Mexico LULAC Elected Dennis W. Montoya to head the State Organization this
Past Weekend at its State Convention in Albuquerque, NM
Albuquerque, NM- the New Mexico League of United Latin American Citizens (NM
LULAC) held its 86th Annual State Convention over this past weekend at the Embassy
Suite Hotel and Spa in Albuquerque, NM. NM LULAC Assembly elected Mr. Dennis
W. Montoya as its new State Director and Ms. Mary Herrera as the Deputy State
Director. Mr. Montoya is a member of Las Cruces Council 120 and Herrera is a member
of Albuquerque Council 8035.

Ms. Jessica Inz Martnez did not seek re-election. She will be returning to UNM to
complete her graduate studies in Public Administration and apply for Law School. Ms.
Martnez was the youngest person to hold the office of State Director in LULAC history.
She was elected Deputy State Director May of 2014. She elevated to State Director on
January 1, 2015, after Mr. Enrique Kiki Vigil was elected Sheriff of Doa Ana Sheriff

and sworn into office. The LULAC Constitution and By-laws prohibit members to hold
any appointed or elected positions in the organization, if elected to a partisan political
office. Ms. Martnez is a former National Youth President and one of the founding
members of the UNM Collegiate Council 8057. She hailed from Las Cruces Council
120. We are pleased that Mr. Dennis W. Montoya was elected. He has served many
years as a staunched advocate for civil rights. Mr. Montoya and Ms. Mary Herrera will
make an excellent team to uphold our tradition and legacy of advocacy on behalf of our
community, stated Ms. Jessica Inz Martnez. Martnez further alluded, we held a
successful convention this past weekend and addressed important issues that affect our
community. We recognized important leaders throughout our state during our Womens
Luncheon and State Directors Dinner Banquet.
NM LULAC held its elections and elected the following officers: Ms. Lynn Baca
of Silver City, NM was re-elected Treasurer; Ms. Diana Archuleta of Las Cruces, NM
was elected Deputy for Elderly; Ms. Karla Ochoa of Albuquerque, NM was re-elected
Deputy for Youth; Ms. Virginia Garcia of Roswell, NM was re-elected Deputy for
Women; and Mr. Jaime McCarthy of Albuquerque, NM was elected Deputy for Young
Adults. The 2016 State Convention will be held in Roswell, NM sponsored by Roswell
LULAC Council 8051. Mr. Ralph D. Arellanes was named State Executive Director by
both the outgoing State Director and State Director Elect Dennis W. Montoya.
