The Most Holy Body and Blood

of Christ (Corpus Christi)
Mark 14:12-16, 22-26
Celebrating the Passover meal
was nothing new for the disciples.
They shared bread and wine with
their families and friends at this
special ritual meal every year as a
part of their Jewish heritage. But
on this night, Jesus changed the
formula. Instead of hearing only
the ancient words of the Passover
prayers that his followers
probably knew by heart, they
heard these new, unexpected, and
dramatic words: This is my
body... This is my blood. Nobody
had ever made such an unusual
claim before. But this was more
than a statement. It was a
command.

The gift of the Eucharist that

Jesus instituted for all believers
at that Last Supper is not just a
sign or a symbol of Jesus
sacrifice. It is something that we
are called to participate in. He
has given us the instruction to
take the eucharistic bread-his
body hidden within it-and to
make it part of ourselves.
Through this great sacrament,
which we celebrate on todays
feast of Corpus Christi, we are
able to be united, in a deeply
mystical yet truly physical way, to
our Lord and Savior. This union
brings about the promise in
todays Alleluia from Johns
Gospel: Whoever eats this bread
will live forever.

Question of the Week

Hebrews 9:11-15: How can we
help fellow believers understand
the sacrifice of the cross?

THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST (CORPUS CHRISTI)

PAGE TWO

The next part of Mass is

receiving Holy Communion.
Let me share with you a few
thoughts and expectations
when you receive Holy
Communion. The manner in which we approach
for Holy Communion is founded on the truth that
the Eucharist is really and truly the Body, Blood,
Soul, and Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is
not just a symbol or a representation of his
presence. Because of the reverence of being
physically in Christs True Presence, we should
approach Holy Communion with devotion,
reverence, and respect. Please keep in mind the
following guidelines when coming forward to
receive Holy Communion, the Church teaches before receiving Holy Communion, all Catholics are
to be free from serious sin and fast from all food
and drink (water and medicine are permitted) for
one hour before receiving (Catechism of the
Catholic Church # 1385).
When it is time for receiving Communion, form a
procession outside the pew as guided by the ushers. Your hands should be folded prayerfully. As
the person in front of you is receiving, you respectfully bow, and then step up to the priest, the deacon, or the Extraordinary Minister of Holy
Communion to receive the Lord in the Eucharist.
SCRIPTURE READINGS

JUNE 7TH, 2015

When the minister presents the Host to you, he or

she says, the Body of Christ. Similarly, when the
Chalice is presented the minister says, The Blood
of Christ. Your response to each should be
Amen nothing more. Please say it clearly and
distinctly. You can receive Holy Communion
either on the tongue or in the hands. If you choose
to receive the Host in your hands, place your left
hand over your right (in the shape of a little
throne to receive the King of Kings). You must
consume the Host immediately. It is forbidden to
give the Host to children (or others) who have not
made their First Communion or to take the Host
out of the Church. You may prayerfully consume
the Host then and there, you dont need to raise it
up or make any other signs with the Host.
If you wish to receive only a blessing, rather than
communion, process in line along with the other
communicants with your arms crossed over your
chest. This gesture lets the priest or minister
know that you are requesting a blessing and not
Holy Communion. When the person in front of
you is receiving Holy Communion, respectfully
bow, and then step up to receive your blessing.
Having received your blessing, please return to
your seat in a quiet and prayerful manner.

PAGE THREE
continued from page two.

Please remain kneeling, if possible, until the Precious Blood is brought to the credence table and
consumed, and the Hosts are brought to the altar
and placed inside the tabernacle. Maintain silence
and spend this time in quiet prayer and thanksgiving to God who is present in your heart. How prepared and longing are you to receive the Body and
Blood of Christ? Do you experience the burning
desire and longing heart like the apostles experienced on their way to Emmaus?

On Saturday May 9th, the Post Office held
its annual "Stamp Out Hunger" food

collected by the Lemon Grove branch

unloaded the postal trucks, hauled the items to the
pantry, and sorted all donations. Over 2500 lbs. of
food were received and will go directly to clients in
our neighborhood. Special thanks go out to
Sterling Lopez and Donovan Chorny from Boy
Scout Troop # 355 for their help in sorting and
organizing at the pantry. Thank you,

DAILY PRAYER FOR PRIESTS

O Jesus,
I pray for your faithful and fervent priests;
For your unfaithful and tepid priests;
For your priests laboring at home or
Abroad in distant mission fields.
For your tempted priests;
For your lonely and desolate priests;
For your young priests;
For your dying priests;
For the souls of your priests
in Purgatory.
But above all, I recommend to you
The priests dearest to me;
The priest who baptized me;
The priests who absolved me from
my sins;
The priests at whose Masses
I assisted and who gave me
Your Body and Blood in
Holy Communion;
The priests who taught and
instructed me;
All the priests to whom I am indebted
in any other way
(especially...)
O Jesus, keep them all close
to your heart,
And bless them abundantly
in time and in Eternity,
Amen

FR. BOSCOS TRIP TO UGANDA ~ IM BACK!

Dear beloved parishioners of Santa Sophia Faith community, I bring you greetings
from the people of Uganda. Thanks so much for your prayers and support. My trip to
Germany and Uganda was fabulous. I successfully conducted my research work in
Northern Uganda. It was my first time to go to Northern Uganda in my life. It has
been a war zone for over 23 years. I come from mid-Western region of Uganda that
borders Uganda and DR Congo. While in Uganda, I also worked on dual citizenship
and it went well. It was an interesting experience to get a visa to be allowed to enter
Uganda, at Entebbe airport, as I entered the country as a US citizen.
In my village community, people were coming morning, afternoon and evening to visit with me and share
meals with me. They gave a beautiful White Vestment and an Alb in appreciation of the good being done for
the community. Unfortunately, lots of chickens lost their lives for me to have a healthy visit. The goats
project is doing very well. Some goats are giving birth to two or three babies at a time. We also planted
1000 mango seedlings in families in the community. The kindergartens and the technical school projects are
also progressing well.
Thanks so much to the children in the CCD program, their teacher, parents and parishioners who support these programs to help the orphans, poor children and poor
families in Uganda. I also would like to thank the Knights of Columbus for their support to the mango project and also for the new battery to have solar light. There are 2
brothers from Valley Center in San Diego, on a mission trip in my village in Uganda. They will be their for one month. They are enjoying the solar light in the house
where they are living, and they are doing great serving the community. They supplied
the community with 1500 mango seedlings. So far there are now 2500 mango trees planted. When you visit
my village, be assured to find lots of goat meat and mangos to eat.
Keep me posted on your future flight schedules to Uganda. The people of Uganda
would love to see you in their villages! God bless you all for your generosity for the
sacrifices you make to share with the poor to bring them hope and Jesus' love.

Peace & blessings,

Fr. Bosco
