Early Life:
Nixon was born in California
in 1913. He served as a
Navy lieutenant commander
during WWII. From 1952 to
1960, he was Vice President
in the Eisenhower
administration.

Nixon first ran for


President in 1960 against
John F. Kennedy. He was
defeated by one of the
narrowest popular vote
margins in US election
history.

in 1968 against Hubert
Humphrey. He was then
reelected in 1972 by one of
the largest margins in
history, both in the popular
vote and the electoral vote.

WATERGATE SCANDAL
During the 1972 election, 5 men were arrested for
breaking into the Democratic National Committee
headquarters at the Watergate Complex in Washington.

Involvement was traced to officials of the
Committee to Re-Elect the President (CREEP).

In March 1973, the White House was charged with trying to cover up its connection to the break-in.
In April, Nixon accepted the resignations of several of his top aides but denied any personal
involvement.

In July 1973, a former White House staff member testified that there were secret recordings of
presidential conversations. Nixon refused to turn them over and had the lead Watergate prosecutor
fired, provoking a public outcry.

In December 1973, Nixon finally released seven of the nine tapes. They revealed the president's
connection to the break-in as well as a number of other abuses of power. On August 5, 1974, Nixon
was forced to supply transcripts that clearly showed his direct involvement in the cover-up.

Faced with almost certain impeachment and removal from office, Nixon announced his decision to
resign on August 8, 1974. Vice President Gerald Ford succeeded him the next day.

The White House informs Congress that the U.S. secretly sold arms to Iran which violated federal
laws prohibiting arms deals with Iran. The administration denies that the sales were part of an attempt
to secure release of American hostages held by Iranian-backed forces.

to mainstream media,
sparking several debates and
questioning the reliability of
the U.S. Government.

Starting in June 2013, Snowden began leaking


extremely classified information to mainstream
media which changed the reputation of the
USA and the NSA in the eyes of the world
forever.

Snowden has called for asylum in many


countries, and many countries have accepted
him. He; however, remains in Russia as Russia
refuses the U.S.'s notion to extradite him. His
passport has been annulled, and he is
supposedly looking to gain Russian citizenship.
