Important Precaution about UV Light

LEC-300 irradiates UV light that has a harmful influence on the human
body. Looking at the UV light of LEC-300 may result in a serious eye
injury such as "UV keratitis", "pterygium" or "cataract".
LEC-300 has been designed to be compliant with IEC60825-9 of the
international safety standard. And the safety against the UV light is
assured for users having the interlock feature that cuts off the UV light
when the front cover is opened. But the service engineers must be
extra careful about the safety, because some of the maintenance
operations need to be done under the condition where this safety
feature is disabled.

1 : Product Information
LEC-300 is a Print and Cut machine that performs printing using the UV ink.
The UV ink fired on the media is cured by UV light irradiated by the LED lamps
attached on the head carriage.

Base

UV Ink

Base

Need to have ink absorbing layer on the media

The way water-based ink is firmly fixed on the media
1. Ink sinks into ink absorbing layer
2. Dry & leave the pigment on the ink absorbing layer
Able to print on media which does not have ink absorbing
layer
The way solvent ink is firmly fixed on the media
1. Melt the material (e.g. PVC) by solvents ingredient
2. Dry & the ink is firmly fixed on the material (e.g. PVC)

Able to print on virtually any materials

The way UV ink is firmly fixed on the media
1. Need to have UV Lamp
2. UV ink is changed from liquid to solid by UV lamp
- Very rapid curing. No drying time is required.

UV LED Lamp
The UV light of LEC-300 is categorized as UV-A whose wavelength is less
harmful to the human body. But it can still give the eyes a serious influence
such as "UV keratitis", "pterygium" or "cataract" if you see the light directly.

Metal Halide Lamp

LED Lamp

Metal Halide Lamp includes UV-A, UV-B,UV-C a lot.

UV LED Lamp

No Heat Generation

No need for pre-heating or cooling down like Metal Halide lamp.

The heat-labile media is usable.

It produces no ozone at all because ozone

can be generated under the wavelength of
250nm or below.
Interlock feature for UV light
The machine automatically cuts off the UV
light when the front cover is opened for safety.

Never allow a user

to disable the
interlock feature!!

UV LED Lamp

Life Expectancy is 10,000 hours.

It is when the machine is used under the condition of 20 degrees C.
It can be less depending on the ambient temperature.
If the machine is used 8 hours/day, 20 days/month, 10,000 hours are
equivalent to 5.2 years.
The operating time of UV LED Lamp can be checked by referring to
''Printing time'' in the history report.

White Ink

White inks settle down inside the tubing & damper like ESL3-WH.
It is required to shake the ink cartridges before starting the printing to
prevent the ink settlement.
Periodic maintenance is required. If it is not performed, the settled
material may harden and it results in malfunction or other problems.

This mode produces a glossy finish on the printed item. In the case of fill overprinting on CMYK colors or white, the media is pulled back and printed with gloss ink.

MatteVarnish (v) + PASS

This mode produces a matte finish on the printed item. In the case of fill overprinting on CMYK colors or white, the media is pulled back and printed with gloss ink.

Embossing (v) + PASS

This mode produces a embossed finish that imparts a three-dimensional feel to the
printed item. In the case of fill overprinting on CMYK colors or white, the media is
pulled back and printed with gloss ink. You can vary the thickness by adjusting the

ECO-UV Ink
LEC-300 supports only the UV curable ink called ECO-UV Ink.

IC Chip is attached on the ink cartridge.
Following information is contained in the IC Chip.

Characteristics

ECO-UV ink cures by UV light.

Since curing is different from drying, heater is not necessary.
ECO-UV ink generates VOC when printing, but the generated VOC
does not contain any solvent component.

VOC is 1/7 of ECO-SOL MAX ink.

Cured ECO-UV ink does not generate any VOC.

Caution for Handling

Odor
ECO-UV ink has strong odor in liquid status and it may cause
discomfort to some people, but cured ink is almost odorless.
Ventilation
Adequate ventilation is required for the work area.
Waste ink
Waste ink must be treated as industrial waste in accordance with local
requirements.

Caution for Handling

The gas volatilized from the ECO-UV ink may irritate the eyes, nose and
throat.
Touching ECO-UV ink may cause skin irritation or inflammation.
It is recommended to wear gloves to avoid contact with ECO-UV ink,
but the cured UV ink is safe.

Once the ink gets into the nails, it is hard

to remove and the symptom may worsen.

Finger web is sensitive and susceptible.

The face and neck are susceptible. Also, they

have risk of secondary infection by hand.

Abdomen and under arm are allergy prone area.

Cartridge Storage

When storing the ink cartridges, they should be covered by original

package which has block out effect against lights.

5 to 40 C degrees temperature, 20 to 80 % humidity (Up to 1 month

under 35 to 40 C degrees temperature)
It is recommended that the ink is stored under 35 C degrees. Do
not leave the cartridges under high temperature environment.

z

Transport of the Machine

To transport the machine, it is necessary to remove all ink from the machine
by performing the HEAD WASH. However, the machine can be transported
without removing ink if the situation meets the following conditions.
Temperature does not exceed 40 degrees Celsius during the transport.
The transport shock is weak.
It is possible to turn on the power again within 48 hours.
Please make sure to fill with ink within 1 week once your perform the
HEAD WASH. If not, cleaning liquid remaining inside the heads could
cause the printing problems, such as missing dots or diagonally-fired dots.
In the worst case, the heads will be broken.

1. Insert the Empty

Cartridges.

2. Put the clip on the 3

black tubes connected
to the pumps.

White & Gloss Hairline

How to reduce the risk of White & Gloss Hairline

Usage Environment
Do not place LEC-300 in any place where it will be subjected to
direct air of the air-conditioner. The hairlines are likely to appear in
less than 25 degrees C temperature.
Avoid using the silver film in case of Gloss ink printing.
Use the media other than the silver film which has matte surface.
Cleaning
Perform the normal cleaning. The hairlines will mostly disappear.
Use CustomCUT feature of VersaWorks
Since the hairlines are likely to appear from around 500mm length,
use CustomCUT feature when printing lengthy data for production
use. The whole job is divided by the specified length and it allows
the machine to perform automatic light cleaning in the beginning of
every page.

How to set the media size

1. Select [CustomCUT]
