EXPERIMENT 1

PROCEDURE : Which is better fertilizer (Sugarcane bagasse fertilizer or

market fertilizer ) ?
HYPOTHESIS : It is hypothesized that there is a direct relationship between
type of fertilizer and ph value of sugarcane bagasse.
APPARATUS : Petri dish , dropper , test tubes , glass rod.
MATERIAL : Sugarcane bagasse fertilizer , market fertilizer , distilled water , pH
paper strip , pH colour chart , litmus paper.
VARIABLES :

MANIPULATED VARIABLE : type of fertilizers

RESPONDING VARIABLES : ph value
CONSTANT VARIABLE : amount of distilled water

PROCEDURE :
1.

Take two strips pH paper.

2. Take the test solutions in separate test tubes. Dissolve the solid substance by
adding distilled water to it. Label the test tubes.
3. Now, place a drop of the test solution on one strip of the pH paper with the help
of a dropper. Use a fresh dropper for each test solution.
4. Observe the colour produced and match it with the different colour shades of
the standard colour pH chart.
5. Note down the colour of the pH from the colour chart that matches most
closely with the colour produced on the pH paper.
6. Similarly, find the pH value of the remaining samples by using a fresh strip of
pH paper and a separate glass rod or fine dropper for each one.

CONCLUSION : Sugarcane bagasse fertilizer is neutral medium which is 7.

EXPERIMENT 2

PROCEDURE : How does the type of fertilizer affect the growth of plants ?
HYPOTHESIS : The hypothesis for this research project is that type of fertilizer will
cause a significant change in growth of plants.
APPARATUS : Soil , Water , bean plant , sugarcane bagasse , market fertilizer
MATERIALS : Blender , pots , gloves , trowel , light microscope
VARIABLE :

Manipulated variable : type of fertilizer

Responding variable : growth of plants
Constant variable : amount of water and presence of sunlight

PROCEDURE
1.

First, take a fresh sugarcane bagasse.

2.

Then, dry the sugarcane bagasse under presence of sunlight.

3. After drying it , cut the sugarcane bagasse into small pieces and then blend it
until the sugarcane bagasse become soft powder which can apply for plant as
fertilizer.
4. Next , place potting soil in two small pots. Make sure that you have the same
amount of soil in each pot.

5.

Place three bean seeds into each pot. Make sure that the soil in each pot is damp.

6.

Label the first pot as A and second pot as B.

7.

Then , sugarcane bagasse fertilizer is apply for pot A while market fertilizer apply for
pot B.
8. Continue watering your plants as explained and once a week measure the
height of the plant. You may also want to count the number of leaves as that is
indicative of how well the plant is growing.
