2.1

General remarks

This function is reserved for machine manufacturers and traders.

For service purposes an "Emergency Boot System" (EBS) can be created
on a USB-Stick. This permits booting of the NCU as from the Service System, in order to carry out certain Service tasks in the service Shell, as for
instance data backups or updates.
Two partitions are created on the Service System:
one Linux-partition, which is not visible under Windows.
a FAT32-partition for DOS- or Windows applications.
Die FAT32-partition can be addressed under the path /data and can be
read and written to under Linux as well as by Windows-System.
To permit creation of a Service System on a USB-Stick the following files
are provided on the "Solution Line" System CD:
A comprehensible file installdisk.exe
an Image-file linuxbase-512M.img
A file with the latest information siemensd.txt
Hints:
The SIMATIC PC USB-FlashDrive with 512 MB memory capacity should
preferably be used.
Administrator rights are necessary for the creation of the Service system
on the PC.
All data already stored on the USB-Stick will be deleted. The transmission
is envisaged for USB 2.0; for this reason a transmission to the USB-Stick
will take longer if USB 1.1 as compared to USB 2.0.

2.2

Creating a bootable Service System

For the creation of a Service System on a USB-Stick the following procedure should be used:
1. Copy the above mentioned Service System files into a folder on the local hard disk of a computer.
2. Insert the 512 MB USB-Stick into the USB-interface of the computer.
3. Using the Windows-Explorer find out the attributed drive letter for the
USB-Sticks, e.g. H
4. Open the DOS-prompt and go to the folder which contains the files for
Service System.
5. At the DOS-prompt key in the following command:
installdisk verbose blocksize 1m linuxbase-512M.img h:
Result:
The image will be copied to the USB-Stick and a partition for Linux as
well as a FAT32-partition for Windows systems is created.
6. Remove the USB-Stick and re-insert.
Result:
After completion a bootable Service System will have been created on
the USB-Stick.

2.3

Creating a data backup

1. Insert the USB-Stick with the Service System into a USB-interface

(X125 or X135) of the NCU and press the Reset-key.
Alternatively switch OFF the NCU, insert the USB-Stick with the service
system and switch the NCU back ON again.
Result:
The NCU boots from the Service System and the following main menu
will be displayed:

2. Open the Service Shell by pressing <F2> (Softkey or key on an external

keyboard).
3. Login with the user name 'manufact' and the password 'SUNRISE'
4. Enter the command 'sc backup' in order to create the backup file
'backup01' on the Service System.
The folder /data is provided by the Service System for the backup files.
Choose between the extensions full, in order to save all data of the CF
-Card or user, in order to save just the user data.
Example: sc backup full /data/backup01
Result:
On the Service System a backup file of the complete CF-card will be
produced under /data.

1. Insert the USB-Stick with the Service System into a USB-interface
