Method Statement for Culvert Construction

1. Introduction and General Information


This method statement consists of construction of culverts, including material & machineries
to be used, casting & construction procedures, quality control tests & verifications, and also
the safety precautions to be implemented.
1.1. Location of Works
Locations will be as per the approved construction drawings.
2. Materials
The major materials used for construction of culverts work, but are not limited to the following.

6 X 9 Rubble

Concrete

Small tools

3. Equipment
The major equipment used for construction of culverts, but are not limited to the following.

Tractor

JCB

Concrete vibrators

Vibrating rammers

Leveling instrument

Other minor tools


4. Safety Management and Control
Safety precaution will be taken complying with the Road Work Traffic Control Manual and as
described follows. Every precaution will be taken to avoid any accidents & damages to
adjoining properties, workers, and road users.
All workers will be advised to wear helmets, boots, and gloves while working. There will be a
stand by vehicle near site always if needed in a case of accident.
The safety officer inspects several times to inspect safety matters.
5. Method and Procedures
Work procedures for construction of culvert described as below.
5.1. Excavation for construction of half culvert will be done by arranging all traffic sign board
as per the road work traffic control manual. The Engineer will be requested to inspect &
approve the
excavation, and necessary soft ground treatments carry out after all.
5.2. The bed will be prepared maintaining required levels as per the original construction
drawings approved by the Engineer and requested from the Engineer to inspect and approve
the surface.
5.3. After getting approval for the bed, screed concrete will be placed, after that 6 x 9 rubble
wall (Abutments), deck concrete, Parapet wall and finishing work will be carried out
respectively.
5.4. Traffic will be diverted on the finished half of the culvert and after arranging all traffic sign
boards and other arrangements; the other side excavation will be started and continued as
described above.
6. Quality Control
Certain inspections, verifications, and tests will be carried out, to ensure the quality and
durability of the product as described in the above procedures, as per the requirements given
in the specification.
