Who We Are
The North Lawndale Community Coordinating Council (NLCCC) is a group of North Lawndale stakeholders, including
representatives from New Covenant CDC, Deer Rehabilitation Services, Inc., the Lawndale Alliance, Mount Sinai
Health System, UCAN, North Lawndale Employment Network, Lawndale Business Renaissance Association, Steans
Family Foundation, Holsten Human Capital Development Corporation, Lawndale Christian Development Corporation,
the North Lawndale Community Action Council, Homan Square Community Foundation, BBF and local residents.
Alderman Michael Scott, Jr., Alderman Jason Ervin, Cook County Commissioner Robert Steele, State Representative
Arthur Turner, Former Representative Arthur L. Turner, Former Cook County Board President Bobbie Steele, Senator
Patricia Van Pelt and Congressman Danny K. Davis support the Council, and have committed to working with us.
The purpose of the NLCCC is to coordinate local community planning activities for the North Lawndale community
(Community Area 29) across various sectors that impact the quality of life. We recognize that there are already a
number of plans that impact various sections of the community. At the same time, there are some areas that have no
plans, and little, if any, development. It is not our intent to usurp any existing plans, but to ensure coordination of
community planning and development and equitable allocation of resources in North Lawndale. One of the first activities
will be to develop and implement a comprehensive plan for the entire North Lawndale community.
NLCCCs work will be led by a steering committee that will guide the strategic direction of the group; develop
mechanisms for decision making; provide a framework for comprehensive planning and related processes and make
policy recommendations. The nuts and bolts of NLCCCs work will be carried out by sub-committees that will be
organized along various quality of life sectors. We are currently recruiting sub-committee members.
