MECHANICAL ENGINEER / LEAN SIX SIGMA MANAGEMENT

SUMMARY
Diligent Mechanical Engineer with extensive experience in manufacturing and cost – effective production
operations utilizes skills and experience to meet production, staff leadership and quality goals. Recognized for
achievements in the following areas:
 Lean Manufacturing  Six Sigma Project Management
 Process Improvements and cost saving  Vendor Management
 Business Analysis  Data analysis and Problem solving
 Research and development  Solidworks 2007, Minitab 15, Visio

Appreciated for strong work ethic, loyalty, team oriented attitude and unflagging commitment to work place
safety.

10 + years of manufacturing experience in high technologies field and 5 years with strong knowledge
in Lean manufacturing principles and techniques: Value stream mapping, Kaizen, Kanban, Five S,
Set-up Reduction, Visual Management, one piece flow and mistake proofing.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
2006 – 2009 Lean Sigma Green Belt Project Leader
MDS Analytical Technologies
Global Supplier of life science tools, Concord, ON

Six Sigma Methodology

 Worked with Value Stream Managers to identify key improvement opportunities, specifically in the areas of
Inventory management, customer issues, supplier issues and internal failures. These issues have been
successfully resolved implementing Lean Sigma tools: Kaizen, Quick wins, DMAIC, FMEA, DOE, resulting
overall business performance improvement by 80%.
 Leading the Lean Sigma Projects saved $350K per year by identifying and eliminating delays in
Production receiving area and Optimizing Inventory turn-over ratio from currently 4.7 – 11. As a second
matrix – Number of Part shortages, improved from currently 65/year to 2/year.
 Used Dashboard matrix for maintain processes, measure and manage Production improvements versus
goals.
 Through the Project Presentation tollgates – Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control, provided
knowledge of the Six Sigma methodologies to the Project team members, evaluated and documented their
suggestions using appropriate tools: Brainstorming, FMEA, Cause and Effect diagram, Hypothesis test, etc.
 Organized meetings with Project team members and key stakeholders and provided recent Project
progress update. This approach helped to meet deadlines and accelerated Project work by 30 %.

Kanban Implementation
 Implemented Kanban System in component Warehousing and several workstations through different
Value Streams. This included also: layout design, error – proofing concept design, labor standards and
tools and equipment building. Maintained processes using score – cards, 5S checklist and Dashboard
matrix. Stock-outs and overflow of material eliminated and inventory accuracy improved to 97%.
 Created Standard Operating Procedures. Decreased assembly lead times by 30% through
implementation of Value stream mapping, finding waste and eliminating it.

2002 – 2006 Senior Technician / Lean Manufacturing,

MDS Analytical Technologies, Concord, ON
 During the prototype phase of the product, organized meetings with designers and manufacturing product
improvement engineers, prepared suggestions for the best sequence of work procedure, BOM, tools
selection, critical torque values, etc. Maintained internal used equipment and saved $10,000 annually.
 Participated on daily Value stream meetings and recommended action to resolve critical issues related to
building instruments, materials and labor, achieving maximum productivity and set goals.
 According to drawings, procedures and health and safety requirements built and commissioned electro-
mechanical assemblies. Generated root cause analysis on failed Instruments and repaired them.

1990 – 2002 Mechanical Engineer Designer, R&D

ZRAK dd, Optical Systems and services, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sarajevo
 From concept design and optical design layouts, created and maintained, engineering drawings and
related documentation (specifications, procedures, reports of analyses and test, etc) of optical instruments
using appropriate standards and safety requirements.
 Designed and directly involved in prototype and pilot phase of the Resonator of Helium – Neon laser.
Provided feasible solutions for mechanical parts, and mechanisms reducing cost by 30 % and increasing
laser efficiency by 50%.
 Implemented test strategies and best solutions, optimizing cost of material and Vendor selections.
Reduced cost by 40% working with Procurement teams and negotiating the best price and performance
for selected items.
 Coordinated multiple activities through development of optical systems including alignment strategies,
tolerance analysis, system error budget and system and component metrology.
 Determined the required assembly and testing procedures, jigs, fixtures, special tools and monthly
reviewed operational efficiency for all major and minor equipment used in Production.
