Calidad de Servicio (QoS) : Permite priorizar el trfico de
paquetes segn la aplicacin o la importancia del cliente.
Fragmentacin : Fragmentacin de paquetes grandes para

Mejora la utilizacin del ancho de banda de upstream al


permitir trabajar en bandas antes prohibidas por problemas de
ruido.
Mejor eficiencia espectral al incorporar modulaciones de
mayor orden.
Permite transmisiones simtricas.
(igual velocidad downstream-upstream)
Mas robusto frente a problemas de ruido
Incorpora canales de mayor ancho de banda lo cual mejora la
multiplexacin estadstica.

Etapas de Registro - Adquisicin del Canal.
El mdem barre toda la banda buscando un canal de
downstream
Cuando encuentra una seal QAM se detiene e identifica si
transporta informacin mpeg2
Dentro de los paquetes mpeg busca el PID para ver si existen
datos Docsis.
Cuando el mdem encuentra una seal mpeg que transporta
informacin Docsis la adquisicin del canal se considera
exitosa.
La informacin de MAC se pasa a la siguiente capa

Etapas de Registro - Obtencin Parmetros Upstream
El mdem espera recibir Tres mensajes MAC que el CMTS
enva repetidamente en todos los canales de downstream.
El primer mensaje es el Tiempo de sincronizacin (SYNC) que
provee una referencia de tiempo comn a todos los mdems.
El segundo mensaje es un Descriptor del canal de upstream
(UCD) donde se especifica frecuencia de transmisin y
modulacin .
El ultimo mensaje es un Mapa de asignacin de ancho de
banda (MAP) que describe cuando puede transmitir y por
cuanto tiempo.

Etapas de Registro - Ranging
El procedimiento de ranging involucra un ajuste fino de los
parmetros de transmisin :
- Ajuste fino de la Referencia de tiempo.
- Ajuste fino de la Frecuencia de transmisin.
- Ajuste fino del Nivel de transmisin (potencia).
Como cada mdem esta a una distancia diferente del CMTS
estos ajustes resultan diferentes para cada equipo

Etapas de Registro - Ranging
El mdem transmite un mensaje al CMTS durante una ventana
de mantenimiento definida en el MAP.
El mdem transmite su pedido de ajuste de ranging basado en su
interpretacin del SYNC y del MAP
EL CMTS debe responder al cable mdem.
Si despus de un tiempo el cable mdem no recibe respuesta
pueden suceder dos cosas:
- Se produjo una colisin con otro cable mdem.
- El nivel de transmisin era muy bajo.
Si el mdem no recibe respuesta a su pedido, deja pasar un
numero aleatorio de ventanas de mantenimiento y vuelve a
transmitir con mayor nivel.

Etapas de Registro Respuesta del CMTS
Cuando el CMTS recibe el pedido del mdem detecta :
- Desplazamiento dentro de la ventana de mantenimiento.
- Frecuencia de transmisin del mdem.
- Nivel de seal recibida en el puerto de upstream .
Basado en esta informacin el CMTS determina las correcciones
y se las enva al cable mdem.
Una vez que el CMTS recibe el pedido de mantenimiento el resto
del proceso de ranging se realiza utilizando mini-slots de tiempo
sin que exista riesgo de colisiones.
Al recibir la respuesta del CMTS el mdem ajusta sus parmetros
y emite un segundo pedido de ranging.

Etapas de Registro Respuesta del CMTS
El dialogo entre el CMTS y el mdem continua hasta que el
CMTS queda satisfecho con los parmetros que utiliza el
mdem :
- Sincronismo con errores inferiores a 1 microseg.
- Frecuencia de transmisin dentro de +/- 10 Hz.
- Nivel de transmisin dentro de +/- 0.5 dB
Este ciclo de ajuste se realiza cuando el mdem se conecta por
primera vez a la red y se repite segn ciclos de mantenimiento
pre-establecidos en el CMTS para asegurar una comunicacin
continua y confiable.

Etapas de Registro Ajuste de SYNC
El ajuste de SYNC requiere compensar los retrasos por :
- Latencia.
- Retardos en la propagacin.
- Tiempos de procesamiento en CMTS y mdem.
Un desplazamiento de tiempo precalculado fuerza al mdem a
transmitir antes del mini-slot asignado.

Request-Grant
Cuando un mdem necesita transmitir pide se le asigne ancho de
banda (request) utilizando una ventana definida en el MAP y el
CMTS le asigna una ventana de transmisin (grant)

Etapas de Registro Asignacin de IP
El mdem requiere establecer conectividad IP
El mdem obtiene una IP a travs del protocolo DHCP
(Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol)
El DHCP corre entre el Mdem y un Servidor de DHCP
administrado por el MSO u otro prestador.
Mientras el Mdem esta activo mantiene su IP pero despus de
un cierto tiempo de inactividad el servidor de DHCP libera esa
IP y la misma puede ser tomada por otro equipo.
Con esta asignacin dinmica se optimiza el uso del rango de
direcciones IP.

Etapas de Registro Obtencin de ToD
Una vez que el Mdem obtiene una IP solicita el ToD al server
(Time of Day) para sincronizar su fecha y hora.
El SYNC y el TOD son dos cosas diferentes.
El SYNC es un contador de 32 bits que coloca marcas de
tiempo para el correcto funcionamiento de la capa MAC
(evitar colisiones).
El ToD es informacin de fecha y hora actuales que el mdem
utiliza con ciertos mensajes y archivos log para identificar
cuando se generaron (timestamp) o sincronizar sus mensajes
cuando se utiliza BPI.

Etapas de Registro Registro
El proceso de registro comienza cuando el mdem baja el
archivo de configuracin
La direccin IP del servidor que contiene el nombre del archivo
de configuracin y el nombre del archivo estn en la respuesta
del servidor de DHCP al Mdem.
Para bajar el archivo de configuracin utiliza protocolo TFTP
(Trivial File Transfer Protocol)
El archivo de configuracin lleva informacin de :
- Anchos de banda de Upstream y Downstream.
- Flujos de servicios asignados al cable mdem, BPI, etc.

El

uBR10012 utiliza PCMCIAs que van desde los 48 Mb hasta los 128 Mb por lo menos una en cada PRE
para el almacenamiento del IOS y otros archivos necesarios para la operacin del CMTS.

Bootflash
El

uBR10012 contiene esta memoria integrada en cada PRE, en este dispositivo de almacenamiento se guardan
el IOS necesario para el reconocimiento de los componentes bsicos del equipo.

Configuracin Acceso.

Router>
Cuando

el equipo termina su proceso de arranque entrega un prompt Router> el cual indica que es el modo
de usuario en el cual se tienen permisos mnimos.

Para

tener acceso privilegiado es necesario ejecutar el comando enable sobre prompt de usuario con el cual
nos solicitar el password del mismo y nos mostrar el siguiente prompt Router# con este nivel de acceso
podemos realizar o ejecutar comandos que en el modo de usuario no son permitidos a menos que se configuren
niveles de acceso brindando privilegios a comandos que por default no est permitido ejecutar.

Para tener acceso a modo configuracin es necesario encontrarse en el modo privilegiado y ejecutar el
comando configure terminal y con este se tiene acceso a una gama de comandos con los que se puede
aprovisionar el CMTS.
