Iasi
Iasi is located in the northeastern part of the country and is the most important political,
economic and cultural centre of the province of Moldavia as well as one of the oldest cities in
Romania. Also knows as The Cultural Capital of Romania, Iasi is a symbol in Romanian
history because the city prides itself with publishing the first Romanian newspaper and
establishing the first Romanian university .
During the past 500 years the history , culture and religious life have molded the city`s
unique character. Iasi has an impressive number of Orthodox churches , almost 100 and most of
them are located in the Golden Plateauwich is the nucleus of the city . Around it the city has
developed over the centuries and has the Palace of Culture at one end and the Union Square at
the other. The oldest church dates from the reign of Stephen the Great and it`s called Princely
Saint Nicholas Church. However, the finest are the 17th century Saint Paraschiva
Metropolitan Cathedral and Trei Ierarhi Church because these two are an amazing example
of Byzantine art.
Iasi has 6 important museums that reveal the historical and cultural life of Romanians
and Moldavians . The Moldavian Ethnographic Museum is one of the oldest and largest in the
country. The museum displays every aspect of traditional Moldavian life featuring agricultural
and hunting tools , traditional pottery , painted eggs and an amazing collection of textiles and
dyed carpets embroidered with bird and plant motifs. One room exhibits winter customs items,
including masks representing the bear, the goat and other characters of traditional New Year's
festivities.Another important thing to see in Iasi is Eminescu's Linden Tree .This is a 500 year
old silver lime situated in the Copou Public Garden. Mihai Eminescu reportedly wrote some of
his best works underneath this lime, rendering the tree one of Romania's most important natural
monuments and a notable Iai landmark.
With large shopping malls and commercial centres located in the area, Iai also has a
well-developed retail business. Iasi is also famous for its nightlife. If you go towards the
University you will find a lot of students wondering around or having great time outside. There
are a lot of bars, clubs, coffee shops and pubs where you can chill, have a drink, dance or watch a
game.
Ancient by history and fresh in appearance, elegant and bohemian, old and new,
academic and artistic, quiet and troubled at the same time, Iasi is the muse for many artists and
writers, the city of lovers for hundreds of generations of students, the place where time settles
friends for life.
The Peles Castle is located on the spot called The Burnt Stones on Peles brook valley
and is the most famous royal residence in Romania. The castle was build between 1875 and 1883
when it was officially opened. The castle was build at the initiative of King Charles I of Romania
to serve as a summer residence , invested with political, cultural and symbolic functions. The
Peles Castle was and is considered to be one of the most beautiful castles in Europe and the first
to be entirely electrified on the continent .
The castle has 160 rooms but only 10 can be visited by tourists . Peles Castles interiors
are an opulent display of elegant design and historical artifact. The rooms of the castle are one of
the finest examples of European art, Murano crystal chandeliers, German stained-glass windows,
walls covered with Cordoba leather, Meissen and Sevres porcelains, ebony and ivory sculptures.

The Entrance Hall is amazing because its walnut tree carvings are covered with basreliefs and statuettes. The king`s visitors were surprised by the movable glass ceiling because
they could admire the shy on cloudless summer nights. The Music Room became a musical
soire salon at Queen Elisabeths wish. The furniture from this room was a gift from the
Maharajah of Kapurthala. The Florentine Room combines revived elements of the Italian
Renaissance, mostly from Florence. Most impressive are the solid bronze doors executed in
Rome; ateliers of Luigi Magni and the Grand Marble Fireplace executed by Paunazio
with Michelangelo motifs.

most important touristic attraction in the whole country because of its magnificent rooms and
gardens .
Mineral water
Nevertheless nature allows the emergence of a very special kind of water from the depths
of the earth, one that has been enriched with the earths minerals and gotten naturally purified
trough filtering countless times during its journey underground.Mineral water is water from
a mineral spring that contains various minerals, such as salts and sulfur compounds. Mineral
water may be effervescent due to contained gases.
The last statistics are saying that Europe is the indisputable leader of carbonated water
market, with a 75% market share globally. Romania holds almost 60% of mineral water
resources of Europe. Unfortunately, only 20% of these resources are being exploited. Due to the
geologic soil structure, Romania possess huge resources of mineral water, gathered in 2000
springs, dominated by carbonated natural mineral water. Thus, mineral waters in Romania are
generally bicarbonated, containing chloride, sulfate, calcium, sodium, magnesium and
ferruginous minerals. Sodium and calcium mineral waters are predominant in Northern and
Western regions of the country, while within the CenterEast region are found especially
magnesium, sodium and ferruginous mineral waters.
In terms of their geologic setting, most of the mineral water accumulations occur in
carbonate rocks that include limestones, calcarenites, conglomerates (about 45%), next in
pyroclastics and andesites (about 25%), in detritic deposits consisting of sand and gravel (about
25%), and to a limited extend in sandstones and crystalline schists. The main intakes of natural
mineral water in Romania are located in mountains and in intra-mountains depressions areas, and
they are related to the domain where Neogene post-volcanic activity has occurred.
