CADWorx fieldPipe User's Guide

Introduction for fieldPipe

CADWorx users can work directly and efficiently with large point clouds using CADWorx fieldPipe
tools and commands. The CADWorx application adds simple tools for viewing and working with
slices of point cloud data to speed up 3D drawing creation. Powerful new modeling tools enable
as-built piping models and other 3D constructions to be created from point cloud data in the
CADWorx environment.
CADWorx fieldPipe is the most efficient and popular software for using as-built point cloud data
captured by Leica laser scanners directly within CADWorx Plant Professional. You can take
advantage of the familiar CADWorx interface and tools to shorten the learning curve for working
with laser scan data.
You can create 3D as-builts, check proposed designs against existing conditions, perform critical
construction and fabrication QA, and more all directly within CADWorx fieldPipe.
CADWorx fieldPipe uses the CloudWorx commands and enables you to load a Cyclone
ModelSpace View directly from a Cyclone database into AutoCAD 2010 and later. You can load all
visible point clouds in the selected ModelSpace View. To ensure that you are working with the
most recent data, CloudWorx provides dynamic linkage to the Cyclone database and updates the
point clouds as soon as a change is made to the database.
CloudWorx loads only point clouds into CAD-based applications. To import
Cyclone-modeled objects into CAD (or vice versa), use Leica Geosystems HDS's COE Data
Transfer import/export product.

Alignment
Align - Automatically aligns two pieces of pipe during routing, piping, and connecting. For
example, if there is a pipe out 95 degrees from a 90 degree elbow, the alignment adjusts the
current pipe in the direction of the 90 degrees from 95 by adjusting the current pipe end point near
the intersection while keeping the previous pipe fixed. This is also done with a 45 degree elbow.
Tol Angle - Specifies the tolerance angle for the alignment. If the difference between the actual
angle of the two pipes and the angles of 180, 90, 45, 22.5, or 11.25 is beyond the Tol Angle,
Align does not apply.
Tol Linear - Specifies the tolerance length for inserting valves and setting the specification using
From Point Cloud. For more information, see Insert a valve or flange (on page 25) and From
Point Cloud (on page 27).
Default Fitting - Specifics the default end type fitting for the components.

Specification

information, see From Point Cloud (on page 27).
Specification List - Lists available specifications in the currently selected project.

View
Hide Components(On/Off) - Hides or shows the components after being inserted using the
commands.
Hide Point Cloud(On/Off) - Displays the Point Cloud Snap/Visibility dialog box with the
following two options.
Hide All Cloud Points - Hides all the cloud points in a drawing.
Disable Snap On Cloud Points - Disables the snap on cloud points.
Object Snap(On/Off) - Enables or disables the AutoCAD object snaps.

When a pipe is inserted into fieldPipe the software detects the size and places the piping
according to the algorithm in the code.
If two pipes with different size need to be connected with an elbow, the software changes the
smaller pipe into the same size as the larger one, in order to connect with an elbow.

Routing with elbows

CADWorx fieldPipe - CloudWorx Interface Palette: Routing with elbows
Command line: FPROUTE
Enables you to route piping by selecting a point on the point cloud while automatically aligning the
pipe to the size of the pipe you select. Routing automatically adds elbows upon finish to connect
two sections of piping on the same line.
usingFence - Enables you to fence a section of piping in the point cloud and fieldPipe draws the
piping automatically when the component size is available in the specification.
changePickpoint - Enables you to pick a new point on a point cloud to change the already placed
piping.

16

CADWorx fieldPipe tab: CLX Projects > Close Project
CloudWorx menu: Close Project
Command line: CWCLOSE
Closes the current CloudWorx project. All point cloud objects, previously mapped layers, and user
coordinate systems are deleted from the drawing.
You may be asked to save the CloudWorx project if changes are detected. When the current
drawing is saved, it automatically saves the CloudWorx project. The drawing retains a special
record referring to the CloudWorx project file that is opened when the drawing is open. This
special record stays when you close the project. To purge this record, you must use Purge (on
page 48).

Import ModelSpace View

CADWorx fieldPipe tab: CLX Projects > Import ModelSpace View
CloudWorx menu: Import ModelSpace View
Command line: CWIMPORT
Establishes a connection to an existing ModelSpace View, loading and displaying the point clouds
contained in the ModelSpace View. The result of the import is a CloudWorx Project, which may be
saved to the drawing so no import is needed next time.
Point Source - Specifies the ModelSpace View that is imported.
Coordinate Systems - Lists all saved coordinate systems attached to the source ModelSpace
View.
Distance Units - Specifies the units to be used for converting meters to the units used in the
drawing. All point coordinates within the point cloud are scaled as necessary to match your
selection when the point cloud is loaded.
Number of units per meter - Specifies the number of units per meters based on the conversion
selected in Distance Units.

Import a ModelSpace View

1. Click Import ModelSpace View
on the CLX Projects panel in the CADWorx fieldPipe
tab. Alternatively, type CWIMPORT on the command line, and then press ENTER.
The Import ModelSpace View dialog box displays.

If you currently do not have a CloudWorx Project open, the result of this import creates a
new CloudWorx Project.
If you have a CloudWorx Project open, you must confirm if you want to import another
ModelSpace View as a reference. Otherwise, you need to close the current project first.
2. Click the MS View ellipsis.
The Select ModelSpace View dialog box displays.
3. Select the ModelSpace View. If there are no ModelSpace Views configured, create one.
4. Click Open.
The Point Source, and Coordinate Systems boxes are populated.
To exit this dialog without loading the ModelSpace View, click Cancel.

CADWorx fieldPipe User's Guide

CLX Projects Panel

5. Select a coordinate system from the Coordinate Systems list.
The Coordinate Systems list contains all saved coordinate systems attached to the
source ModelSpace View. The selected coordinate system is mapped to the drawing's WCS.
6. Because units in a Cyclone database are internally stored in meters, it is necessary to select
the appropriate drawing units to properly convert the point cloud data to the scale of your
drawing. On the right side of the Import ModelSpace View dialog box, select Meters, Feet,
or a customized scale to use for converting meters to the units used in the drawing.
7. Click OK to load the point cloud from the ModelSpace View.

Use the Zoom Extents AutoCAD command to view the entire scene.
The point clouds loaded by CloudWorx are updated automatically to reflect any changes
made in Cyclone to the point cloud in the source ModelSpace.
If you do not want the point cloud that is loaded in CloudWorx to reflect any changes made
to the Cyclone database, create a unique ModelSpace and reserve it for CloudWorx use.
All the cloud points and other related data, including the clippings, and named user
coordinate systems are loaded into CAD. All of the named user coordinate systems in the
ModelSpace View are mapped to CAD user coordinate systems, prepended by "~". Any
changes to the CAD user coordinate systems list are not saved back to the Cyclone
database when CloudWorx closes the ModelSpace View.

Set Load Limit

CADWorx fieldPipe tab: CLX Projects > Set Load Limit
CloudWorx menu: Set Load Limit
Command line: CWLOADMAX
Sets the maximum number of points loaded by CloudWorx. This setting is to protect CloudWorx
from running out of memory. It is related to the computer's speed and memory capacity for
performance. If the current viewport setting requires more points than the load limit, CloudWorx
reduces the level of detail to comply with the limit.
When this command is used while a ModelSpace View is open, it affects the next Regenerate
Point Clouds (on page 76) (CWREGEN) command if the loading limit is met.
A typical setting for a 2GHZ+ CPU with 1GB of memory is 8 (million). In many cases, do not use a
setting less than 2.
Because multiple viewports require memory for each viewport, you may need to decrease the load
limit to maintain overall performance in each viewport.

Set the load limit

1. Before loading a ModelSpace View, click Set Load Limit
on the CLX Projects panel in
the CADWorx fieldPipe tab. Alternatively, type CWLOADMAX on the command line, and
then press ENTER.
2. Type the maximum number of points to be loaded, and then press ENTER.
If you see sparser points than expected after using Regenerate Point Clouds (on page 76)
it indicates that the load limit was met, or the Regen Factor (Set Regen Factor (on page 48)) is
too high. You should first attempt to increase the load limit. If the load limit is relatively high, you
have to decrease the Regen Factor.

CADWorx fieldPipe User's Guide

47

CLX Projects Panel

Set Regen Factor

CADWorx fieldPipe tab: CLX Projects > Set Regen Factor
CloudWorx menu: Set Regen Factor
Command line: CWSETREGEN
Sets a virtual viewport size factor for point cloud regeneration. When the factor is 1 (by default),
CloudWorx loads and regenerates only the cloud points necessary to display in the viewport. If
you pan or zoom out from that view, you may need to use Regenerate Point Clouds (on page 76)
(CWREGEN) to load more points to fill the newly exposed area of the viewport.
By setting this factor larger than 1, the effective viewport for cloud regeneration is enlarged. This
loads more points over more area, reducing the amount of CWREGEN for panning or zooming
operations. For example, a factor of 3 makes the virtual viewport 3x3 times the size of the actual
viewport, centered on the actual viewport. However, because a larger factor may load more
points, more memory may be required for larger values. If the required number of points exceeds
the loading limit, CloudWorx is forced to reduce the detail. As a result, you may see sparser points
than expected.

If Set Regen Factor (CWSETREGEN) is used when no Modelspace View is open, the factor
is saved as the most recently used setting.
If Set Regen Factor is used when a Modelspace View is open, the factor is saved to the DWG
and the most recently used setting when the DWG is saved.
Set Load Limit (on page 47) (CWLOADMAX) limits the maximum allowed number of points
to be loaded.

Purge
CADWorx fieldPipe tab: CLX Projects > Purge
CloudWorx menu: Purge
Command line: CWPURGE
Removes all CloudWorx project related data from the active drawing.

drawing to be opened on a computer that does not have CloudWorx installed without generating
warnings.

Purge CloudWorx data

Scenarios
Following are some common scenarios in which TruSpace and KeyPlan tools can be applied:

Scenario 1: Freestyle viewing and sight-seeing using the KeyPlan and TruSpace viewers
You can synchronize the viewpoint in the active CAD viewport to be driven by the viewpoint in the
TruSpace viewer. When synchronized, the AutoCAD viewpoint automatically follows the
TruSpace viewpoint. You may find viewing to be more accessible in the TruSpace viewer,
because TruSpace content is based on each scanner's position.
1. Launch a KeyPlan (already prepared) under a database.
2. Launch a TruSpace viewer from a scanner displayed in the KeyPlan viewer.
3. Enable sync of View Point.
The active AutoCAD viewport is synchronized with the TruSpace viewer.
4. Switch to the TruSpace viewer.
5. Perform viewpoint manipulations to look at a feature of interest.
The active AutoCAD viewport automatically matches the TruSpace viewpoint.
6. If needed, execute Regenerate Point Clouds to load more points for the current viewpoint.

CADWorx fieldPipe User's Guide

61

CLX TruSpace Panel

7. In TruSpace, jump to a neighboring scanner position.
The active AutoCAD viewport updates automatically.
8. Switch to another scanner position from the KeyPlan viewer.
The active AutoCAD viewport in AutoCAD updates automatically.
Prior to AutoCAD 2007, most commands, especially those that require picks and 3D input,
are incompatible with perspective mode. Use the Perspective Camera Off command (next to
Sync Toggles) to conveniently switch back to parallel projection.

Scenario 2: Pick to support the Line command

You can pick points in the TruSpace window to create AutoCAD lines using regular AutoCAD
commands.
1. Launch a TruSpace viewer from which the feature of interest is visible.
2. Enable 3D Point to use picks from TruSpace as 3D point input for regular AutoCAD
commands.
3. Optionally, configure other viewports to view the area in which you are interested.
4. Invoke the Line AutoCAD command. This tool expects 3D points.
5. Switch to the TruSpace viewer.
6. Pick points in the TruSpace viewer in the sequence that you want the line to follow.
You see the lines generated from the picks in the AutoCAD viewports.
7. Clear the selection to end the Line command.
You can always switch back to AutoCAD to make additional settings, or enter 3D points.

Scenario 3: Pick to support the CloudWorx Fit Pick to Pipe command

You can pick a point on a pipe in the TruSpace window, and grow it into an AutoCAD cylinder.
1. Launch a TruSpace viewer from which the pipe of interest is visible.
2. Enable Pick on Cloud.
3. Run CWFITPIPE, and click Pick Points >>.
4. Pick a point in the TruSpace viewer to grow into a pipe.
The AutoCAD pipe (or pipe center line) is created.

Scenario 4: Use a Quick Limit Box

A limit box is a popular clipping tool for working with a small region of points. The Quick Limit Box
tool uses a single pick in the TruSpace viewer to define the center of the region of interest. A limit
box is applied with a predefined size around that center.
1. Launch a TruSpace viewer from which the region of interest is visible.
2. Enable Quick Limit Box.
3. Adjust the range of the Quick Limit Box in the edit box next to B=.
4. In the TruSpace viewer, switch to the Quick Limit Box mode.
5. In the TruSpace viewer, select the center point.
The AutoCAD viewports are updated with the corresponding limit box.
6. If needed, execute Regenerate Point Clouds to load more detail within the limit box.
You can use the Limit Box Off command to disable the limit box.

Command line: CWTSOPEN
Prompts you to pick a cloud point, and displays the TruSpace Tools viewer. If there are points
from more than one scanner near the selected point, then those scanners are listed with their
distances to the point. Select the scanner position to use.
Enable Sync - Toggles viewpoint synchronization with the TruSpace viewer on or off. When
synchronization is off, the AutoCAD viewpoint does not update to match the TruSpace viewpoint.
3D Point - When this is enabled, CloudWorx submits the 3D pick from the TruSpace viewer to the
command line, for use by AutoCAD commands that accept 3D coordinates. (Use Pick on Cloud
for CloudWorx commands.)
Pick on Cloud - When this is enabled, CloudWorx recomputes the pick made in the TruSpace
viewer based on the closest cloud points visible in the AutoCAD window. Recomputation may fail
if there are not enough points near the selected point, or when the points are clipped or hidden in
CloudWorx. (Use 3D Point for non-CloudWorx commands.)
View Point - When this is enabled, the viewpoint of the active AutoCAD viewport automatically
updates to be the same as the TruSpace viewpoint. When needed, use the Regenerate Point
Clouds command to load more detail.
Quick Limit Box - Clips the point clouds with a predefined limit box size (see the B= setting)
around the pick made in the TruSpace viewer. This clips and hides the points outside the limit box.
You can turn off the limit box using the Limit Box Off command.

Globally overrides point cloud coloring. Initial point cloud coloring can be replaced by true color or
intensity mapping (if available).

Global Color Mapping

No Override - Displays each point cloud using its own setting or layer override.
True Color - Display all point clouds with true color mapped. If true color data is not present (It
must be scanned with a calibrated scanner) for a point cloud, the point cloud uses intensity data (if
available), and then a single color.
Intensity Mapping - Displays all point clouds with intensity-mapped colors. If intensity data is not
available, CloudWorx attempts to use true color data (if available), and then a single color.
Elevation Mapping - Displays all point clouds in retrospect to elevation. Each color shift signifies
a certain delta in elevation as you have specified.

Color Schemes
Sets the color scheme of the point cloud. These colors directly relate to the selected Global Color
Mapping as described below:
Multi-Hue - Correlates to the reflectivity of the point when it was scanned. Must be selected
when True Color has been selected. Can be selected when Intensity is selected.
Greyscale - Correlates to the reflectivity of the point when it was scanned. Can be selected
when Intensity is selected.
Scaled Red - Single color option and can be selected when Intensity is selected.
Scaled Green - Single color option and can be selected when Intensity is selected.
Scaled Blue - Single color option and can be selected when Intensity is selected.
Topo 1 (BGBrO) - Colors are based on the elevation set in the Elevation/Distance Mapping.
Can be selected when Elevation has been selected.
Topo 1 (BrGW) - Colors are based on the elevation set in the Elevation/Distance Mapping.

CLX Accessories Panel

Elevation/Distance Mapping
Set up the starting elevation, the delta of each color shift, and the direction it will go (primarily up).
A good idea is to limit the number of colors to 16 when using this option because the color shifts
are much more prevalent. Also be sure to check the Repeat color out of range box. This allows
the colors to repeat after 16 colors.
Start - Specifies the starting elevation.
Delta - Specifies the delta for each color shift.
Origin - Specifies the origin of the elevation.
Direction - Specifies the direction of the elevation.

Intensity Mapping Parameters

Sets the range of intensity values that you can color the cloud with. Typically, the default numbers
work the best.
Minimum - Specifies the minimum intensity for the color of the cloud.
Maximum - Specifies the maximum intensity for the color of the cloud.
Actual - Specifies the actual intensity for the color of the cloud.
Number of Colors - Specifies the number of colors in the palette that the cloud will be colored
with. Typically this number should always be set at 256 unless using Elevation Mapping, where it
should be limited to 16.
Repeat color out of range - Repeats colors when the Number of Colors set reaches its limit,
such as with the Elevation Mapping option.
Gamma Correction - Sets and specifies where a number closer to 1 has a darker cloud, and
numbers closer to 0 have a washed out or overexposed look and feel in the cloud. Typically, if you
select a number between .45 and .65, that yields the best point cloud appearance.

Override point cloud color mapping

1. Click Color Mapping
on the CLX Accessories panel in the CADWorx fieldPipe tab.
Alternatively, type CWCOLORMAP on the command line, and then press ENTER.
The Point Cloud Color Mapping dialog box displays.
2. Make a selection from the Global Color Mapping list.
Select No Override to display each point cloud using its own setting or layer override.
Select Intensity Mapping to display all point clouds with intensity-mapped colors. If
intensity data is not available, CloudWorx attempts to use true color data (if available),
and then a single color.
Select True Color to display all point clouds with true color mapped into the AutoCAD
palette. If true color data is not present for a point cloud, the point cloud uses intensity
data (if available), and then a single color.
3. If Intensity Mapping is chosen from the Global Color Mapping list, select a mapping Color
Scheme, and then adjust the intensity mapping range if necessary.
From the Color Scheme drop-down list, select Grayscale, Multi-Hue, or a scaled
individual color with which to display the intensity map.
To adjust the intensity mapping range, enter a value for the lowest intensity (to be mapped
to the low end of the selected color scheme in the Minimum box), and then enter a value
(for the highest intensity to be mapped to the high end of the selected color) in the
Maximum box. Intensities lower than the minimum or higher than the maximum are given
the minimum's or maximums color respectively. The Minimum and Maximum settings
typically range from 0 to 1. These values correspond to the range from dark to bright (from
red through yellow and green to blue for the Multi-Hue setting). For a greater difference in
shades, set a more narrow range.

reduces the level of detail to comply with the limit. This setting is related to the computer's
speed and memory capacity for performance.
Use Set Regen Factor (on page 48) (CWSETREGEN) to change the virtual viewport size
factor used for cloud regeneration.

Cloud points have been spatially partitioned into blocks to view and use efficiently. CloudWorx
loads and displays these blocks using multiple levels of detail (LOD). CloudWorx only requests for
points up to the required LOD level to be displayed in a view. When you zoom in the view, or
change the view point, it needs to load more points or release out-of-sight points. This is done
using CWREGEN.

Regenerate Point Clouds forces load points that are needed to display in the selected view.
To regenerate all points needed to view maximum detail in the current view, type CWREGEN
on the command line.
You can change the point loading and rendering density using any of the CWPOINTSPACING
commands. Better point density requires more time to load and render the points. When you
choose lower point density, it is faster for CWREGEN to regenerate the point clouds for the
viewport.

Clash Manager
CADWorx fieldPipe tab: CLX Accessories > Clash Manager
CloudWorx menu: Interference > Clash Manager
Command line: CWCLASHMGR
Enables you to check point clouds against CADWorx models. It identifies the locations (clusters of
points) where the scanned point clouds interfere with the theoretical CADWorx models of the
proposed new design.
Close - Closes the Clash Manager dialog box. All clashing points, as well as the cluster boxes
that are displayed, are reset.
Process
- Select objects and proceed with general clash check. The result is multiple records
showing the clashing regions. Each region is represented by a box. The new records have a
clashing state but are not approved. The initial status of a clash is Unspecified.
Verify - Reprocess a clash record by recalculating the interference with the point clouds. This is
usually used when objects are modified. If the object has changed, the Process Result may
change to Cleared and a new record may be added.

Typical Workflow
1. Click Clash Manager
on the CLX Accessories panel in the CADWorx fieldPipe tab.
Alternatively, type CWCLASHMGR on the command line, and then press ENTER.
2. Select the objects that you want to clash against and run Process.
The results display in the Clash Manager dialog box. Each new record is a potential clashing
area and needs approval. They are initially marked as Unspecified and Clashing.
3. Select an unspecified clash record, and then zoom to the clashing area to check detailed
situation. Run Display to show the detailed clashing points. Change Clash Type as
appropriate.
4. Continue processing other unspecified records.
If the drawing has been changed, then it may cause the clashing situation to change, and you
need to reprocess the clashing. You can either select the objects and Process again, or select
a clash record to Verify.
When you Verify an existing clash record, all clashing records related to this group of
AutoCAD objects are verified. The following are possible results:
If an object exists but no matching clash region is found, then Process Result is changed
to Cleared.
If an object no longer exists, then Process Result is changed to Missing.
New clash regions are added as new clashing records and are set to Clashing and
Unspecified for review.
All the records generated stay in the Clash Manager dialog box unless you delete them.
You can export the records to a text file (tab-delimited). It can be imported into Excel or a
database where you can generate reports on your own.

Flange Work Point

CADWorx fieldPipe tab: CLX Piping > Flange Work Point
CloudWorx menu: Fit Point Cloud > Flange Work Point
Command line: CWFITFLANGE
Assists in determining the placement position for flanges and flanged components. A flange work
point, or tie point, is a point with an axis direction for inserting a flange. This creates a circle
centered at the work point, normal along the axis for the work point graphic representation.
In general, a flange axis can be determined either by its neighbor pipe or the points that represent
the flange component. However, it is generally unreliable and inaccurate to grow a flange from a
pick on the flange surface. When there is a neighbor pipe use the neighbor to determine the axis.
The software provides the following options (through keywords) to find flange work point (from
best to worst):
NEighbor - Used whenever there is a good neighbor pipe. The first pick defines the seed to grow
a neighbor pipe. Later picks adjust the flange work point along the axis.
East / North / Up / viewX / viewY - If your point clouds are registered such that the pipelines are
pointing to east, north, or up, use fixed flange axis direction. In other cases, if you can manipulate
the view direction so that the flange axis is parallel to the view x or y direction, use viewX or
viewY. The first pick defines the seed point to grow a flange. The pick should be in a smooth area
of the flange outer cylindrical surface. The later picks adjust the work point along the axis.
2point - When there are two flanges of the same diameter along the pipe. Provide two pick points
on two flange areas. The direction from the first to the second pick is the flange axis direction.
Later picks adjust the work point along the axis.
3point - Use this option only when none of the other options are easy to achieve. Align the view so
that the flange axis is nearly parallel to the screen. Pick three points that can form a plane whose
normal is the flange axis direction. A flange is grown from the first pick. Later picks adjust the work
point along the axis.
After the flange axis is determined, a flange illustrated by a cylinder and a circle representing the
initial work point (flange insertion point) is displayed. You are given the following options to
complete the operation:
Pick flange point - Select any point to adjust the work point. The pick is projected to the axis.

CADWorx fieldPipe User's Guide

85

CLX Piping Panel

Reset - If the illustrated flange is not right (this can happen when the seed is not good or when the
algorithm fails), you can use this option to redo the first step.
Offset - Enter the axial offset of the work point from the pick. This is usually when you use the
back of the flange or the exposed front edge of the flange as a reference. The work point is
adjusted by the given offset.
Flip - Reverses the offset direction. When offset is used (non-zero), CloudWorx tries to adjust the
work point in an intelligent way. If the offset is to the opposite direction than expected, you can use
this option to flip the offset.
When you have the good flange work point, you can press ENTER to end the command. A circle
and a line are created to demonstrate the flange work point. When you model a flange, you can
snap to the end of the line or the center of the circle, and use the line direction as the axis
reference.

Patch
CADWorx fieldPipe tab: CLX Piping > Patch
CloudWorx menu: Fit Point Cloud > Patch
Command line: CWFITPATCH
Opens the Fit Patch dialog box, which best-fits a patch from one or more pick points in the point
cloud.
Convex Hull - Produces a convex polygon that surrounds the points.
Minimum Rectangle - Produces a rectangle with the minimum surface area that surrounds the fit
points.
Maximum RMS Error - Specifies the sampling error of the original point cloud. If the fit quality
does not meet this number, the fit is rejected.
Pick - Enables you to pick the point on a cylinder.
Fence - Enables you to pick multiple points with a fence.

Section
CADWorx fieldPipe tab: CLX Piping > Section
CloudWorx menu: Fit Point Cloud > Section
Command line: CWFITSECTION
Opens the Best Fit Section dialog box, which adjusts lines, polylines, or arcs to best fit a slice of
a point cloud.
Lock Shape (Rigid) - Adjusts the position and orientation of the section without changing its
shape.
Polar Tracking - Aligns the segments of the section to the Increment angle of the current
AutoCAD Polar Tracking settings.
Snap and Grid - Aligns the segments of the section to the Snap X spacing and Snap Y spacing
of the current AutoCAD Snap and Grid settings. The values for Angle, X base and Y base must
be set to zero.

Polar Tracking and Snap and Grid use the current UCS as a reference. The UCS must be
aligned to the plane of the slice to use these options.
Polar Tracking or Snap and Grid applies the values of the current AutoCAD settings even if
these options are not enabled in AutoCAD.
Clicking Grid Locks ellipsis displays the AutoCAD Drafting Settings dialog box directly from
CloudWorx.

Tolerances

Intersection Tolerance - Determines and maintains the connectivity of endpoints of open

curves to other curves. If the endpoints are initially close to each other, use a smaller
tolerance. Large tolerances may generate unexpected results.
Perpendicular Tolerance - Adjusts angular relationships between segments to be
perpendicular or tangent if the error falls within the tolerance entered. Enter a value between
0.0 and 45.0.
Max. Point Distance - Determines how far the curves are from their ideal cloud points. Lines
are not adjusted more than the value entered (the default is 0.1 or 20 times the RMS error). If
this value is too large, it increases the uncertainty of the fitting results.
Point Accuracy - Displays the sampling error of the original point cloud.
