The Charlie Hedbo terrorist attacks

As we know, at the beginning of this year, on the morning of the 7th of January a terrible
event happened in Paris, France.More than 11 innocent people were killed by two members of
the Islamist Terrorist Group AlQuaedas branch in Yemen.And apparently the cause for this
terrorist attack was the freedom of expression exercised by the illustrators of the satirical
French magazine Charlie Hebdo.
Of course this is just an example of the many terrorist attacks that happened in Europe
USA and in other countries only in the last decade.The multitude of tragical events not only
shows the evil that lays in people with power in the Islamic states, but also a still weak
counter-terrorism system in Europe and not only.Poor communication between countries, the
projection of wrong values and lack of border rigurousity have led to some of the most
disturbing events made by mankind against itself.
The EU should find better ways to protect its every country through a better
communication with other states, new laws about information exchanges between the
countries and promoting of freedom of expression and national identity.
As about the terrorists that commit these acts, they are led by malice, by pure decision,
not by constrain or by religion. It is very important to understand that religion should unite
civilizations, not destroy them and a crucial thing to do is to teach people that religion is
something personal, sacared, that should be separated from politics and other national and
international affairs.Religion is not something evil, it should not cause these kind of
events.The evil takes root in the mind with the permition of the person and the only way to
protect actual and future generations from this wrong conception, the states of the world, of
every nationality and every religion should implement a programme of ethnic and religious
recognition and education.The main purpose is not to fight over the religions, but to
understand and embrace each one of them.We must accept and listen the others, regardless the
social, economical and cultural background.
Violence triggers violence, never peace.Europe, Asia, Africa and America should unite
and accept that the only way to install peace is through peace and non-violent masures,
eventhough we are attacked through violence and terror.
Mankind has so many examples throughout history: the 2 World Wars, the Cold War,
leading to decades of totalitarism, bombings, terrorist attacks, all because state have acted
throught violence as a response to violence.
When we think abaut where we are today, are we here because we promoted violence?
Why was the EU created after two devastating wars?It was created to bring peace in the lives
of peopler all around the globe, to unify and to promote freedom, peace and cooperation
between civilizations.Here are some examples of huge steps towards the 21st century,
implemented through peace movements: the independence of India accomplished by
Mahatma Ghandi, the Martin Luther King movement, the non-violent protests against
communism in the 1960s in Eastern Europe and countless others pacifist acts.
As we can see, a pattern starts to take form; mankind acted in violence, but that didnt
work out, so the other way was peacefull actioning.Solidarity and mutual interests regarding

these national and international problems will lead to a solution.Of course an immediate
process should be implemented by the EU in order to prevent these atrocious events.
After the massacre in Paris, the solidarity that the entire world has showed draws
attention that the only way to fight terrorism is through democracy, freedom of expression and
coalition.The march that took place in Paris, where the heads of several European states took
part, points out that Europe is ready and must take things on a new level.Security is the first
branch that must be solidified.This means:
strict border checking in all mediums(ground, subteran, marine and aerial)
without offending anybody, especially the Islamic citizents and emigrants, that are in a very
delicate situation following the tragic Charlie Hebdo event;
a strict observation of data flow between countries
safer and more complex informatical programs to protect the data flow
special meetings of the EU Security Council
Until now, population of states only tends to concentrate upon the results, not
necessarily on the cause or the criminals.In order to prevent these kind of events to ever
happen we must cut the evil from the root, in this situation, to encarcerate all the terrorists that
exist in ISIS and Islamic states in general.Western civilizations have formed a wrong image of
the Oriental countries, beliving that all muslims are the same, only because ISIS holds the
power in the region.The world must understand that ISIS is totally separate from the states in
the Islamic world and the EU should concentrate their efforts on this issue too.
Children in the Islamic world are risen with a religious belief, but that doesnt mean that
they are going to become ISIS material.Education is a primarly purpose in the fight against
terrorism.Once a man is educated it cannot be uneducated.Once he has the right information,
that knowledge cannot be extracted and replaced with the evil conceptions of ISIS.
So, the EU and all the other countries that are willing to participate at this march for
peace must start not only treating the effects, but actually preventing such events to happen.
And the roots of the reason for these attacks lies in the ISIS culture, that understants the
Islamic principles in a wrong and harmfull way.The western countries must implement a
religious and social education programme in the Islamic states.EU must protect itself against
attacks, but at the same time keep an open relationship with the Orient.We must not isolate the
Islamic states, we must draw them closer to EU, in order to understand their needs, morals
and culture.
It is not possible that in the 21st century people are beheaded, burned to death, killed for
a false act of offending the Islamic beliefs, as stated by ISIS.Children are taught to kill from
tender age, to defy the good authority, to belive only in the wrong Islamic belifs thus, they are
transformed into terrorists.Without the EU and international intervention, the spread of this
disease will not stop and many terrorist attacks will follow.
As a preventive measure, the EU should consider:
implementing an educational programe in the Islamic states without offending
the culture and religion of the citizens
strengthen the communication with the heads of the Islamic states
improving the EUROPOL, in order to prevent a possible terrorist attack
welcoming muslim immigrants in any European country
improve the negociation methods, so that Islamic terrorists dont take any more
hostages, especially children

As a conclusion, there has to be stated that the only way to achieve peace is through
non-violent measures.Communication is a key factor to keeping peace and tranquility
between countries without letting frustrations appear, which can worsen any situation.Security
must be strengthened and after all these events, Europe must now, more than ever, promote
free speech, thinking and expression.These measures must be implemented immediately,
because this is a process of months, years, maybe decades and the sooner we start the better.
