Duxbury pride on 4th of July

Kim Raukaus represented Lady Liberty on the Standish Shores

Neighborhood float, “History comes to Standish Shores.” The Bookmarks, a high school group that meets at the library, created a float that celebrated the country’s
literary heritage. The side of the float reads: “Today’s banned book is tomorrow’s classic!”

A Civil War reenactment group fired a volley of blanks, much to the delight of the crowd. As the theme
was “Our American Heritage,” several historical marching groups participated in the parade.

Mariah MacFarlane and Rita Thompson belted out rock n’ roll tunes
from a revolving stage on the DHS Drama Club’s float.

Peter Clark, Devon Barley, Brendan Killarney

and Winslow Marshall provided the musical
entertainment at the Beach Party.

Jocko Rooney and

Dana Battista work the
grill at the Duxbury

tent just outside the
Beach Party.
The float created by the Cornerstone Lodge won second place in the
maxi float category.

PRESIDENTIAL PHOTO OP: Former resident Chris Richards spent two

years working for President Barack Obama and the Web site myba-
rackobama.com. This photo was taken prior to the inauguration. PATRIOT GAMES: Duxbury Middle School had a special visitor in November –– Patriot running back
Laurence Maroney. Maroney was the guest of seventh grader Tyler Hutchinson, who won the “Take a
Player to School” contest sponsored by the NFL’s Play 60 program and JC Penney. Maroney came to
Tyler’s house and snapped a photo with the family before heading off to school. Pictured are Maroney,
Tyler, Gabrielle, Garrett, mom Lee and dad Scott.

A UNIQUE VOICE:
Juliana Hatfield
performs her song
“Shining On” at the
Duxbury Free Library
in February. Hatfield,
who grew up in
Duxbury has had a
successful career as
a rock musician. She
read excerpts from her
book “When I Grow
Up: A Memoir” and
took questions from
the audience.

A ROYAL VISIT: Peter Dudensing and his wife Nicky with Jigme Wangchuck during
Wangchuck's installation ceremony. Wangchuck, a former student of Dudensing’s, was
recently crowned King of Bhutan.

"A dog is the only thing on

earth that loves you more
than you love yourself."
