1. Strategy

a. Bold and straightforward news-this refers to the fearless approach on the communication of current
events. This is a strategy of a firm because this creates an impact on readers. Having a distinct
technique makes the firm visible in the market and forms an impression they would want to have
from its readers.
b.

Involvement-this is another strategy that becomes an competitive advantage. Community


involvement aside from fulfilling the company CSR, is an important foundation in building
customer trust. Since empowerment and development is promoted, execution must also be observed
and consistent. This is why foundations and scholarships are built by the firm partnering with
different social organisations for the realisation of their objective while building the communitys
trust.

2. Structure

a.

Corporate-this pertains to a particular part of the firms structure. The corporate structure is
composed of the people running the business portion of the firm. All industries have this as a
portion of their business structure.

b.

Editorial-this is the other part of the firms structure. The editorial structure is composed of the

individuals producing the main output of the company revenue. As for the newsprint industry, this
structure is essential for this is the sector where their output product comes from.
3. Systems
a.

Advertising-this department is responsible for relaying communications to persuade an

audience to purchase the organisations product. The communication is through various forms of media
like TV and radio commercials, newsprint and magazine ads, billboards and product placement.

b.

Information technology and Pre-press-Information technology is an organisations system

where the application of computers and telecommunications exist to be able to adapt to the innovations

developing in this generation. Pre-press is essential for every publishing and printing industry because
this makes up the processes and procedures that take place between the creation of a print layout and
the final printing.

c.

Finance-this department is responsible for management of the organisations cashflow,

moreover, this department involves all accounting and monetary responsibilities that provide
information to assisting managers in making strategic decisions.
d.

Circulation-this department is responsible for the distribution after the newspaper is printed they

also work together with the advertising and classified ads to from telemarketing, direct mail, to
advertising campaigns to promote the newspaper.
e.

Mobile Inquirer books-this department handles the digital newsstand of the news publishing

firm.
f.

Classified ads-this unit is responsible for the ads that are found in the classified section of the

newspaper. Other ad representative teams sell into the non-classified section of the newspaper. They are
called "Run of Press" (ROP) and will be part of the retail, major accounts, national, or retail
telemarketing departments.
g.

Business development-is the part of the system which is all about creation of long-term value

for an organisation from customers, markets, and relationships and figuring out how the interactions of
those forces combine together to create opportunities for growth (Scott Pollack, March 21, 2012).
h.

Audit department- this department is responsible for creating a systemised process of

objectively obtaining and evaluating information regarding assertions on certain economic events and
actions and communicating the results to the management.
i.

Human resource-this department is in control of the company employment system, payroll,

benefits, hiring, firing, keeping up to date with the tax laws and assumes responsibility for the
company's employment administration.

j.

Corporate affairs-is a system composed of people in charge of departments, or restructuring

their traditional functions and studying future trends which may affect the interests of the company.
k.

General counsel-this involves the oversight and identification of the legal issues in all

departments as well as corporate governance and business policy. The general counsel provides legal
advice and representation.
4. Shared Values
a.

Integrity- Upholding what is true and fair. Delivering what is promised, without compromising

the set values.


b.

Editorial Independence- Setting the news agenda. Defying pressure and vested interests with

passion and conviction.


c.

Responsibility-Becoming accountable to the nation. Fulfilling the duties to the readers and

stakeholders. No ifs, and no buts.


d.

Teamwork-Being the stewards of the brand, working as one.

e.

Dynamism-Believing in continued improvement, that change is fun, complacency is boring and

stagnation is death.
5. Style
a.

Encouraging, decisive and fearless-this is a leadership style practiced throughout the lifetime of

the firm. From Beltran, Pascual and the present Editor-in-chief, Jimenez-Magsanoc, the slogan
Balanced News, Fearless Views has been consistently live up to by the Inquirer.
6. Staf
a.

Corporate group-this refers to a number of related corporations that are treated as one entity.

This group consists of a parent corporation and multiple subsidiaries that are wholly or majority-owned
by the parent. The firms corporate group is called Inquirer Group of Companies. Under the corporate

group are the top management composed of the chairman, president, chief operating office (COO),
assistant to the president and the VPs and Directors of different departments.
b.

Editorial group-is referred to a team of journalists and news correspondents that are consisting

of experts from diverse geographic, linguistic, and discipline areas. This group works behind the output
which is the national newspaper being circulated daily. The editorial group is composed of the
publisher, editor-in-chief, managing editor, associate editor, chief page one operations, chief news day
desk, research department head, editorial consultant and a number of other editors under news,
business, lifestyle, entertainment, education, sports and etc.
7. Skill
a.Competent top, middle and frontline managers-the firm is under the leadership of Chairman, Marixi
Prieto who ranked 39th in Forbes Asias Philippines Richest Businessman and followed by proficient
and accomplished business members from the president to directors.
b.Caliber journalists and staff-the current editorial team is headed by Editor-in-chief, Letty JimenezMagsanoc, a notable journalist and editor being known for being the fearless woman herself, being an
outspoken journalist even since the Marcos regime. Moreover, as she was appointed an editor for
Panorama in the early years, was able to make the circulation soar and create a reputation for the
magazine. The rest of the editorial team is also composed of remarkable journalists with exceptional
ability to write and communicate quality information and ideas.
