Course DES 355 Multimedia Software, 2Crs: 1 Lecture + 2 Studios

.::. Course Description:

This course provides students with hands-on experience using multimedia software packages in an
electronic design studio environment. Projects give students experience in exploring design and
the creative application of display.

Students will work on the projects of [DES 215 Web Design].

Also several homework and assignments will be given to students in due time to explore their
level of understanding the softwares given to them.

a) Knowledge and Understanding


1. Know how to use the software related [Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Flash]
2. Understand the programming languages related to these software [ HTML, CSS,
ActionScript].

b) Professional Skills
3. Use the knowledge and skills attained [as mentioned above] in the process of designing
websites and other multimedia applications.

c) Transferable skills
4. Enhancing the student's technical skills and knowledge of the mentioned softwares.

.::. Teaching Methods:

This course consists of two studio sessions per week, these sessions are composed of:
[ ] Tutorials addressing the software covered in this course
[ ] Studio time to work on the projects and assignments on going.

Students will all sign in to a social network created for them [ http://fusionists.ning.com/]. After
signing in they will have to contribute to this network by videos, images, discussion forums, etc.
Their contribution will be assessed as their course portfolio.

The criteria of assessment are:


[ ] The level of mastering the software and deploying it in the design process.
[ ] The level of exploring the software and applying multiple actions.
[ ] The level of functionality of the product given.

The grading system:


1. Studio Projects: 50 %
Project 1 20%
Project 2 30%

2. Assigned exercises and homework 40%

3. Student's Portfolio [his/ her profile at [Fusionists network]] 10%

Projects and assignments must be submitted on time. No late submittal is accepted except in
cases of emergency and meeting the instructor's and the Dean's approval.
