WADAJIR DISTRICT IN MOGADISHU SUPPORTS COMMUNITY

POLICING INITIATIVES.
Wadajir has become the 4th district in Mogadishu to get actively
involved in the latest community policing initiatives rolled out by
Somali Police Force (SPF) and police component of the African Union
Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
The districts administrative leaders and residents attended the
launch of the initiative on Thursday, fronting a toll free line 888 for
sharing crime related information.
Speaking during the launch at the Wadajir district headquarters,
Wadajir District Commissioner Ahmed Abdulle Afrah urged the public
to embrace the initiative, stressing that security was not a preserve
of the armed forces. He expressed optimism that the initiative will
pay off in Wadajir, which is the most populous district in the city.
Community policing is important for the peace stabilization since
our country has come from war. So our country is not as we wanted.
So we are trying to get the peace and just restore the peace and we
are rebuilding our country. We need to return our communities as
they were in 1980, Afrah said.

Inspector of Police John Onekalit from AMISOM emphasized on the

benefits of community policing and the need to build closer
relationships with the public.
We have decided to roll out the community policing because as
AMISOM we have seen that it is the best way of fighting criminal
activities in the communities. We have decided to involve the
community so that they work with the police to identify their own
problems; they coordinate with the police and fight the criminal
activities within themselves, said Onekalit.
The SPF and AMISOM have in the last one month launched the
initiative in three other districts in Mogadishu, namely Hodan,
Warta-Nabada and Hamarweyne. It is hoped that the initiative will
be launched in at least 4 other districts in the city.
We love the peace and tranquility brought this initiative led by
AMISOM has brought. The residents have been waiting for a long
time for this and if someone has a problem, they just call the police
and not the intelligence or military, Amina Abdulle Mohamed, a
resident of Wadajir said.
