Type your calculation of the density of bleach using the mass data from measurement #1.
density = mass/volume
0.548g bleach / 500 mL bleach = 1.10 g/mL bleach
Type your calculation of the average density of bleach using the mass data from all four measurements.
(1.10+1.10+1.09+1.09)/4 = 1.10

Type your calculation of the moles of 1,10 phenanthroline that you transferred to the 50 mL volumetric flask.
1mL phen x (1L/1000mL)x(1L/3.6E-3M phen) = 3.6E-6 moles of phen
Type your calculation of the moles of 1,10 phenanthroline that you transferred to the 50 mL volumetric flask.
1mL phen x (1L/1000mL)x(1L/3.6E-3M phen) = 3.6E-6 moles of phen
Type your calculation for the moles Fe2+ at the equivalence point.
410 microliters Fe2+ x (1L / 1E6 microliters) x (2.5E-3M Fe2+/ 1L) = 1.03E-6 moles Fe2+
Type your calculation for the ratio of moles of phen to moles of Fe2+.
3.6E-6 / 1.03E-6 = 3.5

1. The expected stoichiometry is 1:1. How does your result compare (calculate the % error between your mole ratio a
within 5% of this value? (2 pts)
expected = 1, obtained = 1.1
percent error = (1.1-1)/1 x 100 = 10 %
We were not quite in the 5 % error range due to errors we may have made during the lab.
2. What is your biggest source of error in this part of the experiment? (2 pts)
The biggest error could have been due to some oxygen not being able to fully escape the tube connected to the react
our tube was set up so that when large quantities of oxygen forced its way out of the tube, some were able to escape
meant to measure all the oxygen that escaped. It is also possible that the reaction did not fully finish before we record
as we were particularly careful in making sure no more oxygen was on its way.
3. On the basis of the stoichiometry above, predict the other two products (O2 was one of the products) and write a ba
between H2O2 and NaOCl. (2 pts)
H2O2(aq) + NaOCl(aq) --> O2(g) + H2O(l) + NaCl(aq)
Part II
1. The expected stoichiometry is 3 phen:1 Fe2+. How does your result compare (calculate the % error between your m
you within 5% of this value? (2 pts)
(3.50 - 3)/3 x 100 = 16.67 %
We were not in the 5 % error range due to errors we may have made during the lab.
2. What is your biggest source of error in this part of the experiment? (2 pts)
It is possible that we did not allow for the Fe2+ solution to fully mix and react with the phen for exactly 5 minutes, this
not fully reacting and changing absorbance. We also experienced minor issues with the colorimeter not reading stable
