QUESTION 1

In the modern time, internet has become is one of the most powerful and interesting tools all
across the world. The Internet is a network of networks and collection of many services and
resources which benefits us in various ways. Using internet we can access World Wide Web
from any place. It has become best ever friend of everyones. Nowadays, almost everyone is
using Internet connection for many purposes. However, this internet also contains some
unwanted element or disadvantages. I am agreed with statement that some people believe that
the internet creates many problems. It will happen when someone used Internet in addicted.
The Internet somehow behaves like drug and alcohol. Being addicted to it, people
sometimes do not know when to stop accessing it. This behaviour is regarded as a kind of
illness nowadays. Over use may result in neglect of other aspects of life such as work and
study. Some psychologists, Jennifer R. Ferris, believe that Internet addiction is a true
psychological disorder with definable symptoms. The symptoms are comparable to any
addiction, withdrawal, loss of relationships or job and significant time consumption.
Moreover, some people may get their eyes hurt by sitting too long in front of computers. For
example, most of our children cannot leave the computer screen more than two hours, they
are addicted to internet for playing computer games. So they spend to a much time sitting on
the chair in front of the screen and that can be very harmful to eyes and body.
Second problem is crime committed with the help of computers. As the regulations of
uploading information or photo via the Internet are not strictly revised, ones privacy may not
be highly protected. Along with the rise in broadband Internet connections, people can easily
share and download illegal pirated files such as movies and music.

For example, the

classified documents of the Hong Kong Police Department and ICAC have been exposed to
the public because of the guarantee-free file sharing program on the Internet. Such an
incident reflects that Internet crime can be so serious that it can threaten governments and
businesses.
Another problem of Internet is harmful to little children. Children nowadays are
explored to Internet and they are used to maintain Internet as their daily life. This is one of
the greatest threats Internet poses to children. Internet has provided an easy medium to
children to gain access to pornography and this can cause them to either become sexually-

deviant or sexually-addictive. This phenomenon has also caused another problem and that is
the increase in prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases (STD) in children. According to
reports one out of every four teenagers gets infected with a STD every year. The adult
content that is present on the Internet promotes irresponsible sex and creates false notions in
the minds of students.
In conclusion, todays society is in the middle of a technological boom. The Internet
is a very powerful tool. Despite these facts, people need to be extremely aware of the
disadvantage as well.

QUESTION 2
Nowadays, many young people are eager to study abroad, because they want to study in
developed countries where they can get a progressive education. Certainly, studying abroad
seems an excellent opportunity to enrich your knowledge of the language and the culture, to
make friends with new people, to learn how to be more responsible and so on. But there are
also some people who find there many disadvantages such as cultural shock, financial
difficulties and the homesickness. In my opinion, studying abroad is a good choice but there
are many advantages and disadvantages on it.
First of all, studying abroad you have a really good chance to improve your
knowledge of the language. When you are surrounded by another language environment, you
have an opportunity to develop your listening and speaking skills. I suppose there is no other
good way to become fluent. Also, aside from language, you get to know a new culture,
history, lifestyle, and customs. You are not only enriching your knowledge, but also adopting
it for yourself. It can open your eyes on something. Furthermore, it is an adventure.
Studying abroad can be full of happiness, fun and enjoy, because it gives you a chance to
make friends with new people. So, there is new experience to have. In addition, studying
abroad gives you great resources which probably you cannot get in your local universities.
You may be able to do a course that you could not do in your country, or be able to study at a
college or university that specializes in your chosen area of study. Also, you have a
possibility to study using the newest technologies. Finally, studying abroad looks good on
the CV. The fact that when you studied abroad shows that you have important working
qualities such as independence, initiative, and stress-resistance.
However, studying abroad has some potential downsides, for instance cultural shock,
the homesickness, cultural differences and so on and so forth. The first disadvantage is that it
is quite expensive. Not only because of the cost of education, but also because you have to
live somewhere, eat something and be ready to pay it by yourself. Finances may become the
main problem. Secondly, a new environment is a really challenge for foreign students. They
can experience a culture shock. Even if a student knows a lot about a country where he is
going to live, there is a probability that he will be faced with some differences. For example,
differences in students behaviour and relations.

The last disadvantage is that you,

undoubtedly, can feel homesick, be lost or alienated. You may find yourself feeling alone

without your relatives and friends. Furthermore, making a good friend takes time and it can
be more difficult in a country that you are not used to.
In conclusion, education abroad is a great opportunity, but it also has difficulties that
you can try your best to overcome. Therefore, I suppose it is silly to reject this experience.
So if you have a chance to study abroad, you should not miss it.

QUESTION 4
An essential problem of the 21st century is world pollution. Currently the environment is so
contaminated that urgent measures should be taken. Environmental pollution has become a

serious problem all over the world. However, we do not usually try to improve our
environment. We always use chemical detergents and fertilizer. Also forests have been
fatally damaged by deforestation. Some researchers say that if we do not stop devastating the
environment, the Earth will be catastrophic 100 years later. A single individual cannot be
blamed for the world pollution. However every person should take care of his or her habitat.
In addition, it is vital that environmental issues are treated internationally.
Two of the biggest threats to the environment are air pollution and waste.
Governments could certainly make more effort to reduce air pollution. They could introduce
laws to limit emissions from factories or to force companies to use renewable energy from
solar, wind or water power. They could also impose green taxes on drivers and airline
companies. In this way, people would be encouraged to use public transport and to take
fewer flights abroad, therefore reducing emissions.
Individuals should also take responsibility for the impact they have on the
environment. They can take public transport rather than driving, choose products with less
packaging, and recycle as much as possible. Most supermarkets now provide reusable bags
for shoppers as well as banks for recycling glass, plastic and paper in their car parks. By
reusing and recycling, we can help to reduce waste.
Lately, many presentations, conferences and international summits are held to deal
with waste treatment, recycling, and soil and water contamination. For sure joint efforts and
consolidation can only help in the mutual war towards the ongoing environmental disaster.
For instance, governments should offer support to companies and organizations, involved in
manufacturing, industry or agriculture in order to find environment-friendly approaches.
These could be special law regulations, recycling programs, helping courses in order to
implement ISO certificates and many more.
However, the influence of individuals over environment should not be ignored. If we
do not confess that our planet is our home, we will never be able to take adequately care of it.
We have to contribute every day to the preservation of nature and environment. For example,
always remember to save energy by switching off lamps, computers and everything that we
do not use. Our next obligation is to separate waste and throw bulk only in the designated
areas. Driving vehicles can also be environment friendly. For example, we have to avoid

accelerating the engines too rapidly or using the air conditioning in the country, where it
would be better to save energy and simply open the windows.
To sum up, environmental problems should be handled by local and international
authorities as well as individuals. Every single person should take care of the environment,
moreover we have to bring up our children to be conscious citizens of a clean and preserved
planet. In conclusion, both national governments and individuals must play their part in
looking after the environment.

QUESTION 5
Over the past couple of years, our environment has changed very drastically. One main
reason is because humans do not take good enough care of the Earth. If we do not do
anything about this, the Earth wont be in good shape. Luckily, there are many solutions for
what we could do. One of many causes that are damaging our environment is global
warming. Global warming is a rise in temperatures over time on the Earths surface. The
amount of global warming has increased over the years due to many reasons.
The first thing that should be noted is what the causes of global warming. Actually,
many cause of global warming, such as pollution and illegal logging. Pollution is
environmental pollution on the air because dirty smoke from vehicles or factories and more
bad because our earth also lack of trees. The predominant factors resulting in the warming of
the earth are the emissions of CO2 and deforestation. CO2, which damages the ozone layer,
comes from several sources, but the most problematic are those coming from the burning of
fossil fuels from power plants. This releases thousands of tones CO2 into the atmosphere
every year. Another cause of these emissions is the burning of gasoline for transportation,
which continues to increase because of our demand for cars and also our increasing
worldwide consumption, resulting in an increasing need to transport goods. Also, forests store
large amounts of carbon, so deforestation is causing larger amounts of CO2 to remain in the
atmosphere.
Nevertheless, there are potential ways to solve these problems, or at least reduce the
effects. The best solution to this puzzle can only come from governments and individuals
jointly. Governments must make decision to help to decrease these problems. There are many
ways can governments do, firstly is greening. As we know that greening can help to decrease
the pollution. Right now, governments in all of the country are promote slogan "go green".
Do not litter in anywhere also one of ways to greening besides to plant trees and as individual
we can support that. Secondly, governments need to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels
and promote alternatives. Plant-derived plastics, biodiesel, wind power and solar power are
all things that are a step in the right direction, but governments need to enforce the limits on
CO2 emissions for the polluting industries in their countries for these to be effective.

Also, individuals can play a part by making lifestyle changes. People should try to
buy cars with the best fuel economy, and only use their car when really necessary. They can
also switch to energy companies that use renewable energy rather than fossil fuels. Finally,
small things like buying energy efficient light bulbs, turning off electricity in the house, and
planting trees in the garden can help.
In conclusion, global warming is a serious issue, there are steps that governments and
individuals can take to reduce its effects. If we are to save our planet, it is important that this
is treated as a priority for all concerned.

QUESTION 7
Smoking is one problem in our lives. Many countries are realizing the dangers of passive
smoking and are coming up with measures to curb the problems popping up with the passive
smoking. I consider this action is a must and should be followed strictly by all smokers
because not only the active smokers are affected by their act but, also innocent passive
smokers who happen to inhale the smoke are also affected by it. I agree with the statement. I
will describe further below my reasons.
First of all, it is an undeniable fact that prohibiting smoking inside the building is
beneficial to the community. In fact, tobacco is a drug, which leads to serious illness such as
lung cancer, cardio vascular diseases and other fatal ailments. Medical science has fully
supported the dangers of potential passive smoking. To illustrate my point I will like to cite
the fact that most of the people die due to cigarette smoking which contains nicotine.
Inveterate smokers pack up themselves with lung and oral cancer rather than from natural
causes. For example, according some research, non-smokers may have a high chance to get
serious sick if they are consistently inhaling the second hand smoke and become passive
smokers. This makes it clear that cigarettes are threat to our health. Knowing all the ill
effects of smoking, one should not let himself/herself to indulge in the act of smoking mainly
in public places such as schools, colleges, hospitals and transports public. As this shows,
banning smoking in the building areas is in our society at large interests.
Cigarette smoking not only pollutes the air but also make non-smokers inhale the stale
smoke imperilling their health too. Ingrained smokers are not destroying their own health but
also of others. The main critical issue in this respect is that is anyone (child or adult) safe
from passive smoking.

Some smokers argue that banning smoking in public places is direct impingement of
their human rights but this line is futile because right to smoking is not absolute, but right to
life is. Many persons unintentionally take up smoking by watching others; thereby unleash
the smoke in public places. This is what they call fashion.
Thus it is imperative to impose appropriate laws as it will not only prevent nonsmokers from falling victim to the dangers of passive smoking, but also directly benefit the
diehard smokers who would then have no choice but to curtail their smoking habit.
In a consumer age that seems to put choice above everything else, shouldnt they have
the right to meet and socialise with other smokers if they want to? A more balanced policy
than the one now in place in many countries would be to allow certain cafes and restaurants
to apply for a smoking place. Certain areas of buildings such as workplaces could also be
made into smoking rooms or areas. In conclusion, smokers should move to smoking area
when they want to enjoy it. Bad effects may be appeared by the smokers to everybody.
