Operation Manual of TML Displacement Thansducers

This operation manual applies to the following products, but a product with special specifications
partly out of this manual.

INSTALIATION

O Drill a M6 thread hole in the surface of an object

on which the CDP unit is mounted. Using a

magnet stand, e.g. type MB-8, makes optional installation possible but you must take into
consideration some effect on the measuring accuracy due to deformation of the probe fixture or rod
of the MB-B stand.

Fit the supplied fixing holder to the body of the unit (use two holders for CDP-50 and CDP-100)
and tighten thc supplied screw. Pay attention not to excessively tighten it. Recommended tightening
torque is 0.7N ' m (7kgf ' cm) or less. Refer to the graduation on the shaft or the measurement value
of a measuring instrument for positioning.

Make sure that the direction of displacement to be measured coincides with the axial center of the
CDP unit.

As the shaft docs not move in excess of the rated capacity, takc care that it should not be
excessively pressed down. When exchanging the contact tip, take care of looseness of thc tip
because the shaft rotates.

Do not fix the shaft direct to the test object. Do not release quickly from the state of the shaft

beingirlly

pressed down; otherwise the CDP unit may be damaged by spring reaction.

3. MEASUREMENT

The CDP unit is calibrated with a constant voltage excitation type strain meter using the supplied

factor of 2.00. ( In case of using TML data logger, its coefficient should be set to 1.000. )

cable.

One end of the supplied cable does not usually have a connector plug. the cable is connected to
a strain meter or its switching box by screwing or soldering. In case of using NDIS 7-pin plug
refer to the following connection layout.

S"t necessary measuring'parameters to a strain meter, recorder, computor, etc. ( for strain meter,
for instance, initial balancing, sensitivity adjustment, setting of unit, coefficient and measure mode
initial value measurement, ctc.)

In ordinary measutement, it is recommended that a strain meter is previously set to direct measure
mm. In case of reading strain, displaccment is calculated using the following equation:

The calibration cocfEcient is a value obtained by dividing the rated capacity

When the shaft is pressed down, thc measured value changes in negative polarity. 7*ro
adjustment of this unit is made at thc state of the shaft being pressed approximately halfway.

CAUTIONS

Do not apply strong vibration or shock to the CDP unit.

If

the bearing part is used for fixing,

movement of the shaft may be prevented.

Do not grease the shaft and bearing. Take care that the shaft is not hurt, bent excessively pressed
down; otherwise, operation failure will be caused. Ifthe shaft is quickly released from the state of
the shaft being pressed down, the unit may be damaged due to reaction

Do not forcedly bend the cable near the cable intake. Do not place an object on the cable, nor
pull nor flaw the cable.

The CDP unit has no hermetically sealed construction (bearing, cable intake section, etc.),so take
care that water or oil does not permeate from the end of cable.

Continuous use with a bridge excitation voltage over recommendation may produce drift and as a
result, performance will become out of specifications.

All CDP- units

In case of using other instrument than strain meter, make sure that excitation voltage is very stable

Do not apply voltage larger than the allowable bridge excitation.

Do not disassemble nor modify the unit.

5.

ClIECKand STORAGE

Make sure that the shaft moves smoothly.

Make sure that the value [X 10'6] measured in DIRECT mode of the strain metor with the shaft
being pressed halfiray is not excessively large.

Using an insulation resistance tester with an excitation voltage of DC 50V or less, measure
insulation resistance [M0] betrveen input/output wires of the cable (4 wires of red, green, black
and white ) and the CDP unit body to confirm that the insulatiou resistance is kept at about
1000MfJ or more.

Using a digital voltmeter or tester, measure terminal resistance [ 0 ] between output wfues (red and
black) and input wires (green and white). Make sure that the measured value is not largely
different from the value shown on the test data sheet.

For storage, avoid a high or low temperature, high humid place, dust, water drop, vibration, shock,
etc. Handle the supplied cable as well but with a cable cap put.
