Advertising is everywhere. It doesn't matter where you are or what you're

doing: the big enterprises will always find a way to show you their latest
product or service, even if you're not interested at the time. On the TV, at
the bus stop, wavering in the air attached to planes when you're laying
down at the beach - advertising finds you whenever.
Slides 4 e 5:
Everyone's choices are absolutely and invariably influenced when it comes
to getting a new dress, a new laptop or even a soft drink. Your take on the
world reassembles on what the marketing wants to show you or to make you
believe in. Imagine you're at the supermarket and you're faced with the
decision between two brands of water. They may taste similar, their prices
might be even, but your unconscious tells you which one you shall choose.
Not because either one is better than the other, but due to the fact that you
already have been exposed to one of them. At least more than the other, or
simply because the marketing strategy of the one you chose suits you
better.
Slides 6 e 7:
But who are those people that seem to get in our heads and decide for
ourselves? Marketers. They thoroughly study every single parameter of the
product they're about to sell, and come up with ideas good enough to make
the target audience fall in love with their commodity. The business world
craves for that kind of person, someone who can turn a simple object into a
desirable and fashionable item that everybody's dying to get their hands on.
Slide 8:
One of the most prolific ways for the big brands to fully understand the
public needs or vagaries is to subtly stalk them on the internet. For
example, when you're aimlessly wandering through Amazon or Ebay,
clicking on goods you would like to purchase, they keep track of every move
of yours so they can suggest other products you might like as well. And
Facebook is known to save information about your interests and then selling
it to web servers so they know exactly what kind of things you're really into
and what they could show you and sell you.
Slide 9:
Besides all of that, simple internet advertising - also through annoying ads
and pop ups - is growing every year. For example, if we focus solely on the
United States, internet advertising is known for getting billions of dollars on
revenue. In 2013 the amount of money earned through internet represented
over $42 billion. So it comes as no surprise that almost every site you visit is
loaded with advertising you never asked for.

Slide 10:
TV advertising is still one of the most important paths for getting in the face
of customers. Returning to the US's statistics, there's no way you can forget
about the Super Bowl (Super Bowl um jogo da principal liga de futebol
americano dos Estados Unidos que decide o campeo da temporada) break
when the subject is marketing. Although in Europe, and specially in Portugal,
international football competitions are undoubtedly the most famous and
watched, Super Bowl is thought by many to be the world's greatest sports
event. CBS, the television network that transmitted 2013's game, is said to
have earned around 220 million dollars in advertising.
Slide 11:
We can certainly say that advertising is one of the biggest industries of
today's world - and it's shaping it. It involves unbelievably huge amounts of
money and millions of employees all over the globe. And its goal is as
simple as Seth Godin, marketing genius, once said: "Marketing is a contest
for people's attention." And it surely is conquering the world, one person at
a time.
